on my previous computer I had :
xp SP1
direct x 9 c
SB audigy 5.12 drivers
version 6.03 version of game

all worked fine

on my new laptop

game crashes

xp sp 2
direct x 9c
ac 97 5.10 drivers
version 6.11

I've tried keeping the default resolution at 1024 *726 -
its obviuosly a sound problem -

this is very dissapointing - I really enjoy the sounds
is it a version problem - can we get 6.03 back

Nope. It's the fact that OOTP6 was designed for DirectX 9.0 and so any other combination is problematic.

With SP1, yes. SP1, DirectX 9.0, and the audio drivers at the time likely worked for everyone... but once one of those gets updated, then all bets are off.

So, should we be pissed at Microsoft, not OOTP?

Aren't we already ???

It's actually not Microsoft's fault either. It's the price of progress. The technology is always growing by leaps and bounds and is so complex that every variable can't be checked without a huge technical staff and effort. Even Microsoft's stuff doesn't work together all the time (stop by their website and take a gander through their Knowledgebase articles). There's no chance in the world that Markus could test against every configuration possibility. He has to rely on the vendor to "do it right" and we already know what that means.

The good news is that his joining SI will give him access to code and resources that have had the opportunity to do more testing that he has - thus resulting in a more stable environemnt under V7.

I'm brand new to the game, just got it today, and so far I'd have to say I'm not impressed; my first two games ended with a crash, and now evidently I have to disable in-game sounds in order to complete a game. Gotta say, not a real good start to my OOTP experience...

Yes Jim its very frustrating - I bought the game originally for the sounds (personally I feel like they add alot of depth to my games) and now they don'y work - I hope markus will address this- I was wondering how many people have this problem?

We need a response to this.

I will NOT disable Windows Service Pack 2, just to run this game with sound.

This is extremely frustrating, a KNOWN issue, yet we have no assurances that this will be fixed.

Sound is critical to the enjoyment of this game, 'cause it sure as heck isn't the graphics.

I strongly desire a response from OOTP Developments on this!

Official response:

Markus is fully aware of this issue and has known about it for some time, when I last asked him about this issue NOTHING had been resolved. I'm sure that if anything changes on this front that you will be notified when it is corrected via this forum.

Steve, thank you for your response.

OOTP6 is the finest game I have ever played, by far.

I think you can appreciate how many thousands and thousands of games I have played, and simulated.

....and we're close....SO close, to the perfect game.

I've been getting this error after every game now. But I never use to. It was only after I updated DirectX, sound card drivers and vid card drivers. But......my games count......i just reload ootp6, go to schedule and hit simulate day......all games are played so all that comes up is..."finishing day" and all is well.......it's just annoying.

Actually what happens to me now is.......The first game I play after loading OOTP6 I get the error. I know the stats for that game will not count, nor will the pitchers that pitched be tired. Every game after that runs fine.

I Got In Game Sound To Work!!!

Basically it is the interface sound that is broken not the in game sound - thanks ragner

I have XP SP2, direct x 9c

and the following settings and after 3-4 games --in game sound works well.

under game configuration I have disabled direct 3d (in the startup menu)

under game config.
disable interface sound

I will keep playing with it..

If it crashes on the first game after loading, isn't EVERY game the first game after loading???

ok I got it to be stable again

I think the variable was not to have my desktop at 1024*768

my desktop res. is 1400 * 1050 - so the game only takes up about 75 % of the screen - I ran 10 games no crashes.

so if you want to try it - just follow my previous post and add the resolution fix to it
