AI playoff rosters

I sometimes feel that AI decision making is as bad as never before in the OOTP series and starting to seriously ruin the overall experience.

I set default SP and RP hook to -1 and -2 respectively, because real life pitcher usage differed from my game.

I earned the 2018 wildcard spot with the Padres. Game against the Nationals, Joe Ross allows no runs and strikes out 7 in 4.1 innings before being pulled from the game. Thought that modifying the default hook won't do any good so that's alright. I won the game 5-2.

Series vs. Mets, I'm trailing 2-1, 4th game coming up. SP for the Mets is Luis Mateo, a reliever with an incredible -0.7 WAR. The following starters are all eligible and yet not on the playoff roster: Matz, Montero, Gilmartin.

Roster size is 26 to help AI with its terrible bullpen management and still it only picked 3 starters.

So how is that possible?

I have one League that has 28 man rosters and I am playing the second round of the playoffs and the Utah Stars were permitted too play with 40 players and received no pop up stating that they had an illegal number of players. I then manually sent 12 players to other teams because it wouldn't let me move them to the reserve team.

less is more in the playoffs. i don't know how you could force this on the ai, but for your own team just keep a short pen and the AI typically makes good chocies because you only give it 1 choice, maybe 2.

2-3 pitchers in pen are 'none specified' roles in playoffs. my 5th sp is usually a emergancy starter only. while i would still make better choices, the ai's choices under these circumstances are defensible.

maybe making playoff roster 25 or 24 would help. i don't think it changes strategy enough from 162g grind to playoffs with frequent days off, so it tries to conserve a bit too much.
