September Pitching Staff

I'd like to see an option available to 'NOT use a pitcher' during September in advance of a team making the playoffs. Irksome when you want to rest your starters in meaningless games before the playoffs start, but OOTP decides to use them all in the last games of the season as relievers instead.

Already in OOTP - Team Strategy, Player Strategy, Bench Player for X days.

You fill in the number for "X"

You also have the option, in league setup, to prevent the use of starters in relief.

I would like too see 7-man starting rotations in September for teams that are out of the pennant race.

That might be available in the Japanese League, don't know about the rest of the leagues.

I hate to be the one to chime in again Blue (you and I really do seem to have our differences...but nothing personal)

The AI does not do this...so therefore it is a legitimate point. If I (a human GM) can do this but the AI does not...it is pointless.

First of all, if you read the OP's post, he gives the impression he's talking about his team. So no idea why you would make that reply to me.

Second of all, I didn't say the AI does this, because if you read the OP's post, he gives the impression he's talking about his team. So no idea why you would make that reply to me.

Having said that, I have no idea if the AI uses the feature. I do know, from my experience, that since Markus worked on this last year, I see the AI resting its top starters as required. YMMV.

From what I have seen, the usage of top-of-rotation pitchers is still far short of how they're used in reality. I believe the AI might save a top pitcher as long as there are other rested starters available. But this often, from my experience, turns out to where the top pitchers end of pitching on the final days of the regular season anyways (presumably because no other rested starters are available). This is far from realistic, as a real-life manager of a team that has clinched would do whatever's necessary to not start his ace in a meaningless finale.

I get around this by micromanaging rotations on the last two days of the regular season. But it is a tedious PITA and, IMO, shouldn't be necessary in a game this advanced and feature-filled.

You know, I never noticed that. Would be cool if it could be added to the main pitching rotation screen, perhaps as a reliever option?
