Unknown City of Birth
Did a search, found 2 threads with questions only.
Has anyone ever found a cure/cause for this problem? I have a fictional league now, 24 teams and of the 600+ players well over 50% have "Unknown" for City of Birth. |

Is the fictional league located in a very small region? I have a 15-team fictional league with three levels of minors located in the eastern part of Pennsylvania as well as NJ and MD. and I get a lot of unknown cities. I assumed it was because there just aren't enough cities in that part of the state in the database and the game stops itself from having 100s of players from the same handful of cities.

That's a thought - but my region covers N.A. (USA, Canada, Mexico). Should be lots of cities there.
I haven't modified anything other than to get rid of nick names. Tks for the feedback. |

Yeah, the lack of cities shouldn't be an issue, which throws my theory out the window.

Anything on this? I would be interested to know. I created a Continent with 4 nations. I created a region so I could create a league that only uses my Nations.
90% of my players are unknown city of birth. Also it only seems I get cities of birth from 2 of the 4 nations when I get them. There are only 16 cities per nation. Maybe that is the issue. Any ideas anyone?

I'm dry-running a league starting in the 1800s and a lot of those guys born in the 1850s and 60s were born in unknown places. I jut figured that was pretty common then.

I have seen a few players in my league with 'Unknown' city of birth and the only pattern I can come up with for when it seems to happen is with players who have entered the game when I have used the option to fill teams with fictional players.
I did that about three seasons ago when I added a new AA league and some teams didn't have enough players on their roster, and it appears to be the players created then who don't have a city of birth. Anyone who has entered the league through any other means seems to be fine. EDIT: I have quickly done a little further research looking at players created in the same way prior to upgrading my league to OOTP14. The players created in OOTP13 (those I have looked at, anyway) have a city of birth. Wouldn't like to call it a bug without doing more research but it does appear to be a pattern in my game. I added this to the bug thread in tech support. Hopefully Andreas looks into it.
I think aa5680 and RTF may have something. My fictional leagues use regions and I auto-fill teams. Maybe something to do with those 2 things. |

Maybe something with Regions? I've never seen it before. This is the first time I've used regions but it was also one that I created so there is the possibility I messed something up but everything else is working fine.

I decided to remove my region in the setup and once I did that all of the players were assigned cities in the next draft where I was only getting about 10% before. So the regions could be the cause some how.

So what if the guy doesn't know where he was born, I say stop hating on orphans.

In my case I didn't fill rosters with fictional players and my draft class each year was filled with players without cities until I removed the region I was using. Maybe multiple setups cause the issue. No biggie for me right now because I was able to accomplish what I wanted without the region, so all is good.
