[Suggestion] Three Stars of the Game

Just a minor suggestion here, but I think displaying the three stars with actual stars feels a bit off. It kind of looks like a rating of some kind, with the third star being the best.

Personally, I would suggest a simple "1st", "2nd", and "3rd". Or, if you prefer graphics, maybe a gold, silver, and bronze system would work.

I agree. The third star actually looks more important because there is three stars

I guess we did it to make the screen look a bit less like a spreadsheet. But I get your point and we will make some changes.

I'd suggest having a gold-silver-bronze system, it adds some colors

After some thought, I agree. It'd get the same point across as numbers, but it'd add the color and "graphical" element that prevents it from feeling like a spreadsheet.

Not sure I agree with gold-silver-bronze. That's "Olympic" looking. I'd prefer 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

Or to combine:

Maybe three single stars with 1., 2., 3. in it?

I like it the way it is because that's the way it's done irl. You watch a game on TV, afterwards when they show the 3 stars names, they have 1, 2, and 3 stars beside their name respectively.

I'm pretty sure this depends on the broadcaster and is not necessarily a NHL standard.

This makes sense to me. It's the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd stars. Not the 1-star player, 2-star player, and 3-star player.

Also, I've seen too many instances where the visiting team gets the 1st star when the home team wins. Except in rare cases, if the home team wins, the 1st star should be from the home team. It's just due to the nature of how the stars are picked.

ESPN recaps use one, two, & three stars for their three stars.

ESPN isn't exactly an authority on hockey.

What does NBC Sports use? Or the Canadian networks?

HNIC (CBC) uses the star system.

That's good enough for me. Seems wrong, but enough media outlets with enough sway use that system so i wouldn't go out of the way to change it in the game.

It's a bit counter intuitive I agree (I have 3 stars and you only have 1..you suck!) and for the greater good moving to a clearer "1st, 2nd, 3rd" system might be better...

Not exactly a huge game-changing issue mind you...

Well there is no NHL standard, so you're right, it's broadcaster dependent. I just made mention because it's what I've seen the most over my years of following the NHL.

Most likely though, once the game is final I'm sure these little graphics will be easy to change out and put what the individual prefers in there.

Checked NHL.com and they list it like this:

1st *
2nd *
3rd *

Here's a link to a boxscore showing it, about half way down right side.

Tampa Bay Lightning at New Jersey Devils Game Boxscore - 03/05/2013

Looks kinda neat n tidy imo.

I realize that, it's just another example of how one network does it.

I have to disagree. The thing about real-life, in my opinion, is that the use of the "star scale" is isolated to that one quick use, so it means only what its context tells you it means.

But in the game, the star scale is already more widely used to rate players. So in one case, the stars are used as a scale to rate talent levels. But in the other (three stars of the game), it's not really a scale at all, it's a Top-3 list, and actually carries the opposite meaning from the ratings, in that fewer stars are better.

I don't know... it's definitely not a killer, but my immediate reaction upon seeing it was/is slight confusion.
