My experience..
Computer only had intel integrated extreme graphics with 64mb video ram and I did not have this issue. I could minimize the game and come back an hour or more later without any trouble.

Then I installed a radeon 9550 to improve my RTW game ( I know not a huge upgrade but I mostly play sports text games). After the card and the video drivers were installed the screen would no longer come back. The only difference is the video card and drivers nothing else was installed after the new card.

Not a huge issue to me as I play out all my games. YMMV.

this does not work for me, ie. it doesnt reproduce the problem
Me neither under Windows XP - BUT - I was able to duplicate the problem by changing the steps slightly.

Under Windows XP, try this - do Ctrl-Alt-Del, then on the Task Manager, click Shut Down, and then Lock Computer. Then, log back in. These steps are what caused the problem for me just now under Windows XP SP2.

im not sure why i would be doing this for real (id just let the screensaver come on and lock the system), but it still didnt effect OOTP or my browser or my audio program or my virus/adware scanners

*shrug*
