Best time to run expansion?

Should I simulate the 2018 and immediately expand by 2 teams?

I would personally say turn ON evolution and ONLY enable expansion, but I know a lot swear against auto evolution.

If you were going to go that route though, I'd say simulate a season or two before you turn that on, because AFAIK there wont be any expansion for 2019.

I play as an expansion team every version. Unless something has changed in the new version, I suggest it is best to do as you say and Sim the 2018 season and expand after the season.

You can 'make it work' with the date setting that you get when you start a new game but it takes a lot of monkeying around and that takes away from the realistic flow of the game.

Do you expand by 2 teams, or eliminate one team and expand by one to replace? I'm concerned about the schedule.

With regards to the schedule, I would check out the link below. Depending on how you end up realigning, odds are there will be a schedule for you.

I always expand by 2 teams

The game handles the scheduling fine if you leave it at default settings

I have never tried eliminating a team and then expanding by 2...not sure if the game would allow that...I could def see scheduling problems occurring in that scenario

The best time to expand is the first day of the offseason.

In my fictional league, I do it the day after free agents declare. This prevents the AI from picking guys who will just file for FA later anyhow and gives everyone a fair shot at the free agents available.
