One thing I have noticed around baseball is all of the guys that are now electing for TJ surgery. I’m thinking this says a lot about how the industry is viewing whether the season even gets played this year. This is only speculation but I feel like a lot of these big names would have tried to push through for a bit if they felt the season was going to start on time or by early May.

I wonder what will happen with contracts, I know some sports have started their season some haven't. It's like the EPL their FA contracts run out in June, however some players have said if the season continues past June they would stay until the season finished.

I wonder that as well. This is so unprecedented. Yes, leagues have been suspended for various reasons and such in the past, but not in my lifetime or even my parents lifetime. I’m all in as a voyeur on how each league handles this time off when it comes to the business side of their respective sport.

Al Kaline passed away today at the age of 85. He was definitely the face of the franchise for a long time.

Zimmermann on 45-day IL. His season and time as a Tiger is probably over. Good. Now his rotation spot won't be filled with someone horrible with no upside. He was the only negative that I saw to this season.

Nah. Fans of Hitler and overall genocide are much, much worse.

Edit: Your choice of leaving off the rest of my quote undercuts your already weak point.

Ok, You got me. I hyperbolized.
You're probably not as bad as Hitler
Never let it be said, I'm not willing to hear reasonable criticism

I don't think that your point of it is good that this other human is suffering both pain and the loss of an activity that they, most likely, enjoy because sports is as strong as you think it is.

I didn't say it's good that he is suffering. I said it's good that he's probably not pitching for Detroit because he's horrible. One can think the latter is good without also thinking the former is good.

Perhaps you meant that, you didn't say it.

Sure

But, you've only indicated that Zimmermann's injury is "good". This person's injury, which, presumably causes physical pain, is going to cost him a portion of his career and potentially future earnings might benefit a team you apparently root for.

This type of disregard for humans is pretty gross and way too common in sports.

You're reading things into it. I know what I said and what I meant and it's nothing that you've said.

Moving on.

I'm glad you will derive some satisfaction from another person's misfortune.

I hope that we've seen the last of Zimmerman in Detroit too. I admit to being excited at his arrival but he has never preformed as hoped. Lots of young horses in the system, hopefully at least one or two rise up to be solid starters.

You are not the only one. Zimmerman was a big time pitcher when that contract was signed. Detroit as a club was still trying to maximize what was left of their rapidly closing window of opportunity. People loved the signing. I remember the press conference where Illitch basically flubbed his nose at the MLB luxury tax. The first month of Zimmerman was exactly what they paid for. He was absolutely lights out with that devastating slider. Then he got hurt. Then he continued to get hurt. His drop off because of injuries was very rapid and tough to watch. His contract maybe becomes a cautionary tale but in all, for me at least, Zim is a metaphor for the lost opportunity of that era of Tiger baseball. He is the last guy that could be linked to the past. The future seems bright and I’m more than ready for that to be put to the test. Bring those young guns up and let’s go.
