There is a certain ritual to follow before opening packs, which does involve a live donkey, honey, feathers, and lots of glitter, but I can't tell you the order in which you have to apply them.

In the end it might all be for nought. Lake Monroe has rallied from 3-1 down to force a Game 7 and my boys can't find the sticks.

Wow, another close one. I really should watch more playoff games - this one was fun!

We were up 5-3 going to the bottom of the 8th with Clarkson still pitching and having a pretty good game so far. After 2 straight hits to start the inning, Brett finished things off with a SF hit to Ichiro tieing the game 5-5.

So things remained tied up to the 11th, with DownEast batting (bottom half). Ichiro got a single to lead off and then Johnson came in to pitch for us and promptly gave up a double to Brett. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs, I figured it was over with Ted Williams coming up next. Well, Williams hit a fly to Ichiro in RF who was able to keep (their) Ichiro from scoring. Then Johnson got Josh Bell to strike out and Joe DiMaggio then grounded out to end the threat. Phew!

In the top of the 13, we had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out only to get shut down. Both teams went quietly until the bottom of the 17th when DownEast got runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs due to an error on Willie Mays. But Don Sutton, who had pitched poorly all year, got Rendon to K to end the threat.

Finally, in the top of the 18th, our Ichiro got a single with 2 outs. Wade Boggs followed that up with a double, but unlike their Ichiro earlier, our Ichiro was able to score on the double and Sutton closed things out in the bottom half.

So now we're up 3-1. All 4 games have been decided by 1 run and 3 of them were decided only after the 8th. We've got Seaver vs Hubbell in what I'm hoping will be the finale.

Note to self... Watch more games!

Just so you guys know that Westheim isn't the only one having fun with packs...

I had actually opened 35 packs just now (out of 80 today, and after a run of ~250 lackluster packs a couple days ago) and up to this point had zero diamonds and just 1 gold. I was very due.

Woooo! My 92-70 Aotearoa Angels just knocked out the 135-27 (and 6-time Perfect League Champion) Arlington Cowboys 4-1 in the Sub League Series. A megaton of runs scored, games went 18-12, 8-9 (my only loss), 10-0, 2-1 (what), and finally 8-5.

Taking on the Ferretville Fighting Ferrets or Oakland Oatboys next. They're all tied up 3-all in their series.

Hoping for my second Perfect League title (first since 2035!)

The Colonels blow a 3-0 lead and are going to game 7. We have Cy Young going but my confidence is shaken at this point.

Edit: We pulled it off. On to the finals!

After 4 straight close ones, the Raccoons won easily in the finale, 9-1 with Ichiro getting the series MVP. We didn't get any major awards for a change and our record was below normal, but winning 11 of 13 vs teams that won 112, 123 and 108 in the post-season is a fair trade.

So that's twice we've ended up in a 20 team league and both times we won the WS. Hmm... Maybe small leagues aren't so bad after all.

Ouch... Such a painful way to lose it. I'm sorry for our fellow critters.

But with the pack luck you've been having (it's been for the Raccoons, right?), you should get more shots in the future.

In addition to that tasty 100 Bonds card, the run of 80 packs yielded 6 diamonds (4 historicals--Corey Seager, Jose Fernandez, Fergie Jenkins, and Luis Tiant). Not too shabby. But, no Hrabosky or Hoot Gibson unfortunately.

A possible World Series opponent for me is the Oakland Oatboys. It's an interestingly put-together team. Huge emphasis on Defense, every player there has >100 position rating (with the exception of Luke Appling who has 75 at First Base)

Three man rotation with every reliever set as a middle reliever (with the exception of one lefty specialist). Every Pitcher has >85 Movement. The starting rotation are all set as followers. All of the designated openers are right-handed while two of the starting rotation is left handed.

Anyway, in the time it took me to write that, they lost their game 7, so it'll be Ferrets for me!

The trickle-down effect in pack luck resulted in me drawing about three live bronzes a pack. But, I did pull a peak card-- Peak Earle Combs. Sigh.

Also someone bid 5.5k for a 91 Tejada card-- but not my Tejada card that I listed for 5.5k.

The P443 finals feature the Bridgeville Bucs (129-33) against the Louisville Colonels (131-31). Bridgeville has one PL title to Louisville's five, but that doesn't mean a thing right now. The home field does matter and the Colonels finished the season with 28 wins in their last 32 games to hold off the Bucs with 28 of 33.

Bridgeville uses a RHB ballpark so I may do some tricky stuff with my lineup in the road games. I would really like to get #6 here.

Steelport put a big scare into the 9-time champion Washington LyinCheatinSenators, but in the end they fell short in the LCS, losing in 7 games.

We had the champions on the ropes, and we let them off the hook. I'm devastated. Makes the entire season feel like a damn waste.

Well, gotta say I didn't see that comeback happening. What a series. Sadly I'm now down 2-0 in the WS (bats gone again) but maybe we can get back in it since we are headed home.

Good luck next season man

Xenos Heading to Perfect League WS

For only their second time in their 31 year existence, the Wey-Yu Xenomorphs will make an appearance in the Perfect League World Series. They made it on the strength of some great hitting at the top of the order - and the second top, as Dykstra likes to call it hitting in 6th against RH. Dykstra was the MVP but you can't deny Eddie Plank's arm. "Gettysburg Eddie" went 2-0, pitching 16 innings with an ERA of 0.55. Both of those guys were reward cards for Live missions!

That's a tough team though. Good job even taking 'em to the limit.

1. Is that PEAK McGwire on your team?

2. If so, what do his stats usually look like for you?

Yes, it is most definitely Peak McGwire (96). Got him in the diamond pack I received for finishing the Toronto Missions. Up until last year, I had McGwire and Peak Delgado in the lineup but I went for a different 1B/DH strategy this year, even though Delgado consistently posted a 2.0 WAR. McGwire's 104 Power and 85 Eye are just too fun not to play.

The plan is eventually to move on from McGwire as I'm currently and slowly working through the Detroit Tigers Missions. But McGwire's last two years for me have been great.

Nice. Lots of K's as you'd expect, but still a usable OBP. Could be a terror in a ballpark tailored for power. I got a PEAK McGwire in a pack a little while back and locked it for the Ozzie Smith missions. I figure with Bonds and McGwire I could flip to a steroid-power meta for a week just as a change of pace. Was wondering how that McGwire would hold up....thanks
