Columbus Blue Jackets (9-4-2) at Montreal Canadiens (14-4-0)

Montreal is 4-4 since starting the season 10-0 and seem to be struggling to score goals. Tonight we have the Blue Jackets at the Bell Center. Montreal still holds a 4 point lead on the Bruins, but the Bruins have a game in hand. Montreal get about 30 shots a game and this ranks them 14th in the NHL. Defensively, although they did give up 10 goals in 2 nights coming into this game, they give up 27 shots a night which ranks them 3rd in the NHL.

Montreal LW Robert Hendriksson is born in Gavle, Sweden. A offensive forward and strong playmaker, he is playing on the 1st line with a playmaking, speedy forward role. Hendriksson was signed as a free agent in June of 1981 and made his NHL debut with Montreal on October 24th, 1981. This year in 18 games he has 2 goals and 10 assists for 12 points. In 155 career NHL games he has 25 goals and 54 points with 41 PIMs.

The Blue Jackets are 4th in the East with 20 poiints, 8 back of Montreal. The Blue Jackets are good at both ends of the rink, they rank 6th in the NHL with 33 shots per game. Defensively they rank 9th by giving up 29 shots a game.

Columbus will start G Michael Woodlford, he has 7 wins in 12 games this year with a 2.48 GAA and a .914 save %. Last year he had 15 wins with a 2.57 GAA and a .916 save % in 25 games for the Blue Jackets. Montreal goes with G Wilf Nestor, he has 12 wins with a 1.78 GAA and a .931 save % in 15 games.

Montreal ties the score 1-1 at 3:51 when LD Dennis Engstrom gets his 1st of the year. Columbus is still carrying the play through most of the 2nd period. The shots were 16 to 6 for the Blue Jackets in the period. Nestor holding the Canadiens in it.

Montreal had a better 3rd period out shooting Columbus 12 to 8 but the after 3 periods it is still tied 1-1 and we are off to overtime. Montreal has had to kill 9 PPs so far in this game.

In overtime it was all Montreal as they had the only 3 shots of the period, but could not put one past Woolford. Columbus scores the only goal in the shoot out for the win. Colorado Avalanche (9-5-3) at Montreal Canadiens (14-4-1)

Montreal are trying to get back on track, struggling the last 4-5 games and really could use a win. The PK on the other hand is fantastic, we kill penalties at a rate of 92.0% which ranks 2nd in the NHL.

Montreal's RW Samuel Hebert is from Norfolk County, ON. The 21 year old is a two way forward that the scouts feel is a blue chip prospect. Montreal goes up 2-1 at 5:14 of the 3rd when LD Lance Lambright gets his 2nd of the season. About 5 minutes into the 3rd, RW Samuel Fleury left the game with a head injury. Montreal goes up 3-1 at 7:16 when LD Lance Lambright gets his 2nd of the night. Colorado gets it back to 3-2 at 11:22 when RW Bruce Ballard gets his 4th of the season. Montreal hangs on for the win. Montreal Canadiens (15-4-1) at Carolina Hurricanes (9-7-2)

The Canadiens start the 2nd quarter of the season with a 3 point lead on the Bruins and Blue Jackets, although the Blue Jackets have a game in hand. Montreal made some moves in hope to bolster the offense. We will see how they worked out. I am very excited to see how Zack Davey does. He is a physical player that should help the team offensively.

The captain for the first four years for Montreal has been LW Quincy Kaminsky. The 39 year old from Georgina, ON is a two way forward, but is starting to slow down. A skilled defensive player, he is an up and down winger on the 2nd line that can play the role of a shadow. This year he has 2 goals and 5 points in 20 games, last year he had 9 goals and 27 points with 35 PIMs but was limited to 61 games due to injury. In 234 career NHL games he has 65 goals, 94 assists for 159 points and 123 PIMs.

Carolina is in 9th spot in the East, 1 point out of the final playoff spot currently. The Hurricanes rank 15th with goals at 2.61 goals per game. They are ranked 20th in goals against with 2.89 per game.

The Hurricanes will start G Felix Adolfsson, he has 1 win with a 1.62 GAA and .951 save % in 4 games. Last year he had 8 wins with a 3.23 GAA and a .897 save % in 23 games with Carolina. With back to back games, Montreal goes with G Stefan Mertel, he has 2 wins with a 2.56 GAA and a .910 save % in 5 games.

The first period ends with no scoring, Carolina out shot Montreal 10-9. LD Zack Davey gets into his first NHL fight 9 minutes into the game. Montreal is 0 for 1 on the PP, Carolina 0 for 2.

Montreal scores 1st, at 12:35 of the 2nd period LW Quincy Kaminsky gets his 3rd of the year. The shots were 9-5 in favor of Montreal in the 2nd.

Montreal goes up 2-0 when RW Adrian Andersson gets his 1st NHL goal at 7:08 of the 3rd period. The shots were 7-2 for Carolina in the 3rd period, but Montreal hangs on. Montreal was 0 for 2 on the PP while Carolina was 0 for 5.

Montreal's new comer and in his 1st NHL game, RW Adrian Andersson was the 1st star with his goal, +2 rating, 3 shots on goal and 14:17 in ice time. The 20 year old now has 1 goal and 1 point in 1 game.

Montreal ranks 6th in the NHL giving up 27 shots per game.

LW Josef Kramar is a 21 year old from Pisek, CZE. A two way forward that is a strong skater. New York Islanders (10-5-4) at Montreal Canadiens 16-5-1)

Montreal stay home at the Bell Center to face the Islanders, it is the 1st meeting of the season for the two clubs. Montreal lead the East with a 1 point lead on Boston, but Montreal has played one less game. Meanwhile Columbus is 5 back with 2 games in hand. Montreal's PP struggles continue, they are ranked 26th with a 9.3% success rate. Montreal is 3rd on the PK with a 90.9% kill rate.

LD Lance Lambright became an assistant captain to start this season, replacing the retired Zach Berry. The 29 year old from Des Moines, IA is a defensive defenseman that the scouts say have tremendous strength. Usually playing on the 1st pairing, he plays a stay at home defensive style of play. The Canadiens average 27 shots against which ranks them 4th in the NHL.

Tonight we highlight backup G Stefan Mertel. The 30 year old from Humenne SVK is a durable goalie that the Canadiens can count on to give Wilf Nestor a night off during back to back games. He has been with the organization since the league started in 1980-81 and has split his career between AHL and NHL. This season he has a 3-1-0 record with 1.94 GAA and a .928 save % in 6 games. Despite Montreal out shooting Anaheim 11 to 3 and dominating play for the first 19:56, Anaheim scores late when C David Penaz scores his 6th to make it 1-0. The final shots on goal were 11 to 4 for Montreal.

Early in the 2nd, Montreal gets burned again but this time by former Montreal prospect C Herman Hedberg. Hedberg gets his 4th of the year at 2:23 to make it 2-0. Herman was traded to Anaheim for C Bryce Spencer. Interesting enough at 10:35 of the 2nd Hedberg and Spencer are involved in a fight and are both off for 5 minutes. The shots were 12-2 for Montreal in the 2nd, again buzzing the Anaheim goal but to no avail.

Montreal do finally get to the Anaheim goalie, RW Eric McFatridge gets his 3rd of the season at 1:03 of the 3rd and its now 2-1. Anaheim gets that back at 7:19 when RD Vic Darroch gets his 2nd of the year. So far 3 goals on just 8 shots for the Ducks.
