Unhappy Thank You For This Post Feature Disabled

Hi folks!

We just wanted to let you know that we've had to disable the 'thank you' feature for posts. This is because there were some security issues with it that hackers could exploit when attacking the forums.

Given that it appears there is not a update to the feature currently available that removes the vulnerability, we don't necessarily envision being able to reactivate the feature any time soon, unless there is an update to the forum software that comes along

We know this isn't a change for the better and lots of you will be very sad to see the feature go (myself first of all, as I was one of the most prolific thankers of posts in the community) but it's unfortunately a necessary evil, at least for the time being.

If you like someone's post and agree with it, please feel free just to create a short response now and tell them.

Thanks so much for understanding!

That is a shame. I was proud of the number of thanks that I had earned over the years.

Well, Lukas, I don't know how to thank you now for protecting our online safety . . .

Next you will be telling us the smilies have been compromised and removed. We will not even be able to express our emotions any more!

I wonder what Markus will say when he realizes that his 45,000 thanks (give or take a few thousand) have gone poof!

"Mein Gott. Wer ist für diese Empörung verantwortlich?" ("My God. Who is responsible for this outrage?" according to Google Translate.)

Poor guy; I know he had his eye on 50,000 thanks. Oh well, he need only think of all those Euros he has on deposit at Deutsche Bank now. That is great consolation, indeed.

Ugh, receiving thanks was the only thing keeping my self esteem alive. I guess it's back to taking selfies and posting them on Facebook. Do these shoes make my feet look big?. Oh and if at any point you realize listing infractions from decades ago are a security threat, getting rid of them won't hurt my feelings any.

Yes, the number of thanks would tend to obscure and offset any infractions. Now the infraction stands out like a sore thumb. Frankly, David, I just now realized that you have a record. I am sorry, but I do not cavort with people of your ilk. I find it necessary to sever our relationship at this point. Goodbye.

[Just kidding, of course. I'm curious but too polite to ask how you got that black eye. Maybe expand your Location description so that it runs everything else outside the box?]

Oh man, I was quite the idiot in years past. Learned the hard way that alcohol never makes one smarter. I used some bad words and definitely deserved the infractions.

Gosh darn it! I mouse-searched out of habit just now for the Thanks button, remembered, and felt embittered at the loss!

Well, "thank you," David, for that heart-felt confession.

So this made me chuckle and then I instinctively went to hit the thanks button, and, uh, how's that for a senior moment? I'm reading the thread about the thanks button being disabled and trying to click on it anyway. Oy vey!

Feel weird to not see it anymore since I have seen this so many years... but if it cause a problem there aren't much you can do.

Better to loose an enjoyable extra features than having some hackers creating problem...
