Adding players to import
Under league settings there is a function to export all player stats to a csv file, and re-import them. In between you can change the stats, so that career stats are modified.
Can you add players to the league this way? I tried, and I don't see the test player show up anywhere in the game. I exported all league stats, inserted a new player at the end with Libre Office calc, made up a player ID, saved, then imported OOTP. No errors, but no evidence of the player either doing a search or in history. I ask because I have a really long-standing league that has history that pre-dates OOTP. I have a big spreadsheet of stats prior to 2000 when I bought OOTP2. I've never been able to get that history fully into my game, and I'd like to.

It occurred to me that maybe the best way to do this is to edit the historical_database.odb file. But I'm not sure if this is possible. I found an ancient (circa 2008) thread here saying that someone couldn't use standard database tools to open the file. Is it a proprietary format?
I guess I'll try to install LibreOffice Base and give it a whirl.

So... clearly not a standard format. I tried to open the historical_database.odb file in LibreOffice Base and got a big mess of a text file.

I guess that is an option, but pretty labor-intensive. Create a player, edit his attributes so that he's the right age, etc. Then export all stats, modify, re-import.
I have several hundred players from the 1988-1999 era I'd like to do this for. Might be a while.

I did verify that this works. Create fictional player, then change all his attributes to match a Continental League historical player from the 1988-1999 timeframe. Then export player stats to a csv file, add the player in question using the Player ID generated in the first step. Import player stats and... there you go.
I now have legendary Honolulu first baseman Todd Madison in the historical records of the CBL for the first time in the OOTP era. Now I just have to repeat this about 500 times.
