Tell Me One More Time, Just So I Understand....
The proper way to make the Opener/Follower option work.
I thought I understood, followed Matt's most recent postings on it. I've tried all the various combinations (Opener in the starting rotation with the follower designated as such - both showing this designation. Vice versa, and setting with and without the opener or follower designation checked). The thing is, I'm seeing work properly occasionally, about 1 in 10, but otherwise I'll see either the opener open without the follower following. Putting the follower into the rotation always ends up with him starting and going 5+, with the opener filling his normal relief role. So, I'm sure this must be human error. Something about the order in which things are done is my guess. But I've tried so many variations that I've reached a point where I'm confused by my own efforts. Again, I have seen it work properly on occasion, never consistently. If anyone feels they have a sure fire understanding of how to make this work properly, I'd really appreciate the help. _________________________________________________ Also, apologies and acknowledgement to the late, great Waylon Jennings for the title. He's been on my mind lately. |

Somewhere in the team strategy there is a slider that changes the frequency that the opener/follower is used. I'm at work so I don't have the game in front of me but its in there somewhere and if I remember right its towards the bottom on the right. If you have a manager that controls game decisions he has the slider as well.
I ran into this issue before. If its set to seldom you will see it used at probably the rate you are seeing it. Enough that you know it works.

Thanks for the thoughts.
I don't think that's it, only because I set all lineups and pitching rotation, etc for the teams I'm trying this with. But you could certainly be correct and I'll look when I have the time as well. I only try using this on my minor league teams, mostly when rehabbing a pitcher. The thinking being that the P (used as an opener) being rehabbed is pitching when I want/game conditions I want, while insuring (hopefully) that his pitch limit is unlikely to be surpassed, |
