Everyone complaining about the lack of "dev diaries" and updates...
My guess is, you're still going to buy it. Because not buying it -- due of their lack of communication in the development process -- would just be petty and childish. All that would prove is this game obviously wasn't being made for you. It's being made for us who want the deepest, NFL "franchise" experience under the OOTP umbrella regardless of how long it takes or how many times the devs post updates. "This isn't good business; a horrible way to gain new fans and customers" Luckily -- for those of you saying this -- that's none of your concern. You do not own them. You do not work for them. You haven't even given them money for this game yet. Therefor, you are not technically a customer. And if you have nothing invested in this game yet, then what's w/ all the neediness on updates? Are you seriously that annoyed because the devs aren't your pen-pals before they even release the game? Have you even bothered to consider that FOF may already have a lot of hype around it since the merger? Not only does Jim have the entire FOF fan-base on board for this, he now has the OOTP fan-base (at least, the portion that are also NFL fans) as well. He gained more new fans just by merging FOF under the OOTP umbrella -- and vice-versa. And maybe he's just fine w/ that, for the time being. Maybe he has a lot on his plate right now w/ the transition over that he simply doesn't want to create excessive hype on things he isn't yet sure he can deliver. Maybe he doesn't want to add unnecessary pressure on himself w/ his first release under OOTP and -- instead -- just hyper-focusing on making the best damn game he possibly can for his first run. Maybe OOTP doesn't want to add unnecessary pressure on him, either, by forcing him to give out constant updates. Or posting updates, themselves. Maybe he simply doesn't have time for your entitlement... again... towards a product you haven't even bought yet. Either way you nip/tuck it... Jim/OOTP taking their time on giving us the best possible game they can -- w/ very little updates in the process and w/o taking a dime of our money for the game yet -- doesn't make them bad developers, or even bad at business/marketing. On the other hand, complaining about the lack of updates -- and subsequently, coaching them on how you think they should run their business/marketing strategy because "rabble this other game does it this way rabble rabble" -- makes you a terribly annoying customer. With all that said, I'm gonna buy the **** outta this game when it drops 3 weeks/months/years from now because I've been waiting 14 years for Madden to give me something even remotely close to what OOTP gives baseball fans. So enough w/ the entitlement already. Just wait patiently like the rest of us instead of spouting off at the devs like a bunch of spoiled teenagers. When they want to update us, they'll update us. When it drops, it drops. Until then, just keep calm and look at the damn flowers. |

While I get that the lack of communication is frustrating and that we're all hankering for more news about this greatly anticipated game, I definitely understand the desire to play things close to the vest. OOTP's journey towards releasing a football sim has been long and rife with challenges, and the complaining we see now would be nothing compared to the complaining we'd see if they started talking and advertising about aspects to the new game that they, for whatever reason, end up unable to deliver on. It just happens. Especially with a smaller dev.
Personally...I'm in this subforum multiple times a week waiting for info. I don't typically post because the tensions in here are so high. So yeah I'm frustrated that this game has taken so long and I have absolutely nothing to go off of in terms of how long it will be until the game releases...I would love an update or two. If there were screenshots or other assets, I'd be elated. But I know that the bottom line is, once the game finally does release, I will never again think about how the development process didn't involve regular updates to the community. Ever. It won't cross my mind. So I don't know how angry I really can be.

No-one is right, no-one is wrong, everybody’s opinion on what should/shouldn’t be happening is equally valid, and no-one speaks for everyone - they just project their perfectly valid opinion as being the norm. I don’t know how OOTP works, but Jim’s gonna Jim, and no amount of projected opinion is going to change that. Conversation and debate is good and healthy, but it won’t change a thing in this instance Last edited by AlexB; 03-29-2019 at 11:56 AM. |

Probably would be best for everyone if they locked this forum until they have something to say.
We just seem to be engaging in the same argument we've been having for months. |

Honestly I never heard of FOF 1-8 before. Only reason I saw FOF now was cause it was attached to OOTP. The lack of information is certainly in my case not making it an immediate purchase on release. Maybe if I heard great things about it after 3 or 4 months then I grab it on a steam season sale. I know 0 of the previous games and have 0 desire to learn anything about previous games during a gigantic code/engine/philosophy/company update. Not to mention during a huge OOTP 20 launch and huge grand strategy new IP from paradox next month. And Thea 2 around the corner in late spring early fall. FOF isn't just competing against other sports or football games in my case but all games. And currently FOF has done nothing for a potential new fan/user/customer to care about it. |

Why write the longest post in years here just to complaining about the people complaining about no dev diaries
People are probably just thinking that if they can’t play the game yet the next best thing is to hear about it, I would get a boner of a small meaningless updated from jim. That’s how long am been following this forum. I agree with a lot that’s been said here from a fan base/pr perspective it would make sense but it’s not the way the have chosen. That sucks. Let people be exited and stop complaning at each other. Or just continue it’s fun reading and all we have for now when it comes to this game of imagination. |

rabble, rabble rabble!
because, it's like a child constantly saying, "are we there, yet?" but the op's post will do nothing about that, so it's a futile endeavor, or just a release of frustration with a lack of sophistication form the peanut gallery. although asking for a little maturity while slinging insults doesn't help... but, it can be theraputic. |

I'll buy it no matter what.
I do wish the developer's relationship with the customers was different. Mostly for selfish reasons (it's fun to get hyped for a new game). I can't think of another entertainment product that is so resistant to promotion and cultivating a relationship with the customer base. That's bewildering to me, and it seems like it was all based on feelings being hurt on the FOF board years and years ago, rather than upon some rational business decision. That definitely is a little frustrating, and things have been even more silent, for longer, than previous versions - which I definitely did not expect when the game moved over here. But I'll still buy as soon as I hear about coming out. I'm vested enough to check back here every few months for updates. I wish the company seemed more excited about the product, but, that doesn't change whether I purchase. Last edited by Funkrocket; 04-01-2019 at 05:37 PM. |

Considering that every other FoF has had limited to no communication overall I cant say that I'm surprised at all.
I'll still buy it either way. Hoping itll come out by the season this fall |

If you know the history of FOF you know this is always Jim's style and will not change. No, it is not the most "user friendly" way of communicating, but it is what it is and going at each other won't change anything beside giving us mods more to do
That said, like it or not let's keep it civil and when Jim has an update of substance I am sure he will post it. |

Possibly the least user friendly. I mean there are or were people interested in FOF that know nothing of the game it's history or anything. Just that ootp is doing a football.
Great opportunity to start to develop a new base. But not this way. I get too many games a year to pay attention to a game in extra long development that hasn't had an update in over 7 months. I'm out. I wish them the best. And I'll check in like 2-3 months after release. Only way I would think about a purchase now is a heavy discount steam seasonal sale. I think that is a kind of sad state of affairs. And pretty weak excuses. Oh that's just jim. Potential new customers have zero idea what you are talking about? But a lot of users are trying to White Knight fof and Jim. With out actually looking at the validity of how great constant dev game updates are for the gaming community. Maybe sports sim fans are just grateful for whatever gets released. I can't see a general gamer who gets 2-3 dozen games a year being interested in a game concept with no updates. I guess I don't need to say anything else on the subject. If you people are fine with it so be it. Doubt I'll ever drop into this sub forum again |

Huh? This is bizarre. Why is a developer diary so important?

I don't think it's a developer diary that's so important, as much as simply any kind of communication whatsoever... Considering, the initial targeted release date was "late 2018" which obviously came and went and now into the 4th month of 2019 we haven't even really heard anything further at all about even a potential or possible release date target. I get they may be gun shy to suggest another potential release date and not hit it, but even something broad like "the game will release in 2019" would likely at the very least satisfy people a bit more than complete silence.
