Talking Negro Leagues

Stupid question considering I'm the guy who brokered the deal to include our Negro Leagues Database in OOTP 18. How do I access it?! :-D

Simply create a historical league and check the option to include minor leagues. That will import the Negro Leagues automatically

I recall reading that there is a way to load individual negro league players into the game? I'm interested in creating a super league with the greatest All Time players.

(And if the same is possible for minor leaguers, throwing in Steve Dalkowski for the heck of it.)

They will magically appear in 1920 in your historical game, with minors included.

the game now allows Negro League players and minor league players to be imported from the Free Agent screen. Just need to know their player ID, and be certain to check the box to include the minor league database, which is where the Negro League players will be located. Tested this in beta, and as long as you have the correct player ID, it works like a charm!

What's the best way to get the player ID? Baseball-ref, or seamheads?

Do you know where we could get the player ids for the Negro and minor league players? Is it from the baseball reference URL?

In the final version we will have player ID reference files in the stats folder of the OOTP data folder. Right now seamheads & baseball-reference are a good source.

good to know, because a lot of the lesser known Negro League players have sort of funky playerIDs. i was looking for that list, but didn't see it in stats or database. When that list is put out, if it's the same one i've seen, it's very good, giving player ID, names (or nick names) and specific year (start and finish) of the player career, which comes in handy when you want to import a players stats from a particular year.

Currently working my way through a Historical League sim atm. When I reach 1920, is there a way to release Negro League players/merge them into my league as FAs?

you can turn off the color barrier. When that's turned on, it segregates Negro League players until 1947 or 1948, when Jackie Robinson actually enters the majors (not the year he went to Montreal in the minors.) With the color barrier off, integration starts the year you start you league. So, the Negro League players would be available either for purchase by Major League teams if they were on a Negro League team (as would any other minor league players not on an affiliated team), or become Free agents at the end of their contracts. (Of course, this means the teams in the Negro Leagues are integrated as well ....)

Playing around with it, you have to uncheck the box 'colour barrier' in the MLB league settings in order to allow MLB teams to sign Negro League players.

I'm not sure if there's anything else you need to do.

Is there a way to get all minor leaguers and Negro League players to enter the league amateur draft instead of being assigned to their teams?

Is there any way to run a Negro League team vs. MLB team in Historical Exhibition?

i did a quick look, and from appearance, it's only Major league teams available and the world series teams. Didn't see option to pick any other league. Maybe a future version? Dunno. Maybe someone knows a way, but as i said, i didn't see it.

I have a similar question, can you import entire Negro League or Minor League teams into the game? I am looking to set up a promotion/relegation league and would like to round it out with historical players from these leagues.

Not looking like you can, but thought I might be missing something if anyone knows.

Ah yes, but I play random debut historicals, and as I understand it, you can only use the major league database with that. At least that was the case with OOTP17. I want to know if I can use the "Import Historical Player(s)" tool and hook it up to the minor league database and select who to bring in to my league as it progresses.

Something I'd really like to see is the ability to set up a league in whatever configuration you like and have the historical MLB, MiLB, and Negro League players available year-by-year in the draft pool or as free agents. I love playing with historical players and statistics but with reconfigured leagues and teams. The new historical minor league and, now, Negro League players are too chained to the historical league/team configurations. I sounds like importing minor leaguers is possible, but it has to be done one-by-one, right? That sounds overwhelming.
