Free Agents Auto-resigned?
I did a fantasy draft starting in 1970 and had come to the point where I was going to let some of my veterans go to free-agency after the 1975 season. Once the off-season started though, I went to my Salaries page only to find that ALL of the guys I wanted to let go had been re-signed to 1-yr deals. Nothing shows up in the transactions log saying they had been re-signed and their player history pages don't have anything about being re-signed either.
I have the GM Settings set to manual on everything. Any idea how this happened so I can avoid it in the future? |

Were they arbitration eligible?

That's what I was thinking. If they were FAs but were eligible for compensation, it's possible they were offered arbitration by default. Or if they were just on a one year contract but they didn't have enough service time to hit free agency yet, then they'd be automatically resigned.
If you look on the Contract tab of the player, you'll see their service time and whether they're auto-renew, arb. eligible, or free agent after the season. When the offseason starts but before free agents file, you should check your Arbitration screen - it has a list of all the arbitration eligible folks as well as the free agents who might be eligible for compensation and a checkbox if you want to offer them arbitration. |

Oh - another thing - I've seen that Salaries page show inaccurate information if the offseason has just started but the free agency period hasn't started yet. So it could be something like that.
I think we'd need screenshots to be able to help further. |

Your financials must still be using Reserve Clause Era rules. Not sure, but you might have to wait for 1976 for free agency rules to kick in.
Make sure you have financial rules set correctly. |

you can change them if you want, now. or wait if doing a historical run.
some of the stuff doesn't show accurately because ti simply doesn't matter, if i recall. when you turn on FA and w/e else, it should resolve itself. accounting and salaries stuff does balance. if you have promoted some fresh faces to 25-man roster, their league mnimum salary doesn't show until 1 game is played, i believe, but Front Office payroll value should include it.... so, sometime the salaries page (10-years worth sub-tab of front office) does not match current payroll value in main front office screen (upper left corner for me). (you'll notice some missing names from Salary screen and it should add up to the difference when you multiply by the league minimum -- they will show up after game one or anyone else promoted in-season, immediately.) I think it was this. It was 1976, and prior to this the arbitration qualifiers didn't show up, and now they are. Still weird to me that they auto-signed at completely different rates, but oh well. Seems to be good going forward now. |
