Does it happen in America?

A few weeks back Mauricio Pochettino was fired by Spurs (EPL) by all accounts he's being paid £12.5m NOT to take another coaching roll for a year, also many of the top coaches get fired and are paid sometimes up to £5m. So are MLB, NFL, NHL or NBA coaches paid for not to take another job or paid for failure, I mean £12.5m for sitting at home goes way over my head.

It happens. I remember Butch Davis didn't take another coaching job & went into TV because he would forfeit his money from the U of N.Carolina if he did.

It does happen sometimes at the professional level. There have been a few coaches that gave back money to the team that let them go so that they could sign a contract with a new team.

Don't get me started on Butch. I argue with Tar Heel fans all the time who pretend like Butch was done wrong by the NCAA & university. He was mediocre AND got UNC on probation. We never needed to cheat to be mediocre before. I don't know why UNC needed to continue paying him top dollar to lead us to "new" middles and put the Heels' entire athletic program under a decade's long microscope.

It just boggles the mind, sports that is. I know other businesses pay off employees for being fired, banks and the like, high end execs etc but to pay someone for being fired because you don't think their good enough THEN pay them not to take a job because you think their good enough, consider my mind boggles

I don't believe in aliens. But if there was intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, I think they would quarantine planet Earth to keep other galaxies from being contaminated.
