1927 New York Yankees Starting Pitching Rotation.
I'm a first-time buyer of OOTP and am currently doing a Historical Replay (a particular interest of mine) of the 1927 season and I'm managing the New York Yankees. I'm playing the same schedule as played during that season. This is my third attempt, following one freeze-up and one Safari quit. The good news: I am now doing backups. The bad news: We’ll see.
Date is 26/06/1927, with the Yankees record sitting at 51W-12L. Game 1 of a doubleheader v. Philadelphia showed that George Pipgras was to be the starting pitcher. That didn't happen; Myles Thomas was. Game 2 of the same doubleheader shows George Pigras is to be the starter. I'm guessing he won't be. The problem is illustrated in stats of the five-man rotation which, as of now, has become only four. Current Game Totals for the five pitchers assigned to be starters: Hoyt: 15 Pennock: 12 Pipgras: 4 Ruether: 12 Shocker: 13 Under the heading of "Yankees", the sub-heading of "Pitching Staff" and the sub-sub-heading of "Rotation Settings", it says the following: Rotation Size: 5-Man Rotation Next Starter: 2-G. Pipgras Rotation Mode: Strict, on occasion highest rested Allow SP in Relief: No. Game log for George Pipgras thus far: 05/30, 05/10 05/03 and 04/19. Injury History is blank for both him and for the club. Any attempt to Click/Drag Pipgras over as Game Starter, before the start of a game (as you would with field players), fails after I start the game and I have attempted this at least ten times. His name does drop to be the Starter, but when I click "Play Ball!" on the left side or click on the game to be played in the drop-down menu of "Play" on the right side, it changes the starter to someone else. For the record, none of these settings have been altered by me. In another period of three games: "Your Starter": Waite Hoyt; no, George Pipgras ('member him?) "Your Starter": Waite Hoyt; no, Myles Thomas "Your Starter": Waite Hoyt; no, Hern Pennock. Waite Hoyt: "Health Status"=OK “Rest Status"=100%-Rested Other examples: “Your Starter”: Waite Hoyt; no, Dutch Reuther “Your Starter”: Waite Hoyt; no, Urban Shocker “Your Starter”: Waite Hoyt; no, George Pipgras “Your Starter”: Waite Hoyt; no, Wilcy Moore “Your Starter”: Waite Hoyt; YES, Waite Hoyt! Now, it’s happening with a different pitcher; “Your Starter”: Herb Pennock; no, Dutch Reuther “Your Starter”: Herb Pennock; no, George Pigras "Your Starter": Herb Pennock; no, etc., etc. Is this anomaly: A) A problem with the game and this particular season or B) Am I overlooking something too obvious? |

Did you select to use historical lineups when you set up the league?

I don't recall.
I know that the game about I'm about to play tells me that that George Pipgras is going to hurl, but when I hit "Play Ball!" Waite Hoyt is the starting pitcher. |

At the top before you start the game select yourself for offensive strategy for the other team, then put the pitcher there. The AI is overriding you.

I finished my first season replay and here are three things I found:
1) The aforementioned situation never did rectify itself. In fact, I've just begun a 1904 season replay and it still exists there. It appears there is a disconnect between who is shown to be the starter for that game and who actually becomes the starter. 2) Warming up a reliever and rather than read that he is "Tiring", I would drag him into the lineup while New York was batting and when it said he was "Ready", making sure it was at a time where the order would have to bat around to force me to make another change. The problem is, in some situations, the box score would show that the new pitcher was first used as a pinch-hitter (PH) before making his first pitch. 3) The strange case of Water Beall. In the 1927 season, according to the fine website retrosheet dot org, he only pitched in one inning in one game, something I was already aware of. In my replay, I was using him on a regular basis and he was doing a fine job. Near the end of August, he suddenly disappeared from the roster. Vaporized, gone, MIA. I checked the "Injury" list. Nothing there. Then, about two weeks later, he reappeared. Odd that. Last edited by tom_burr; 05-30-2018 at 05:48 AM. Reason: wrong url name |
