Contract Maximum Limit Reached

I started a new patch game with Opening Day rosters with the Wings. It won't let me sign any unsigned draft picks (including Anthony Mantha) because it says the contract maximum limit was reached. What does this mean? I'm under the cap. Does that mean I have to release players?

It's because u can only have 50 players signed at once... There is 80 player reserve which includes ahl, nhl and unsigned prospects however u can only have signed 50 contracts at once so u have to release a player or two to give u a little extra space..
