A look at historical - what year do you want to see?
Sometime soon, I plan to do a blog running some historical seasons with FHM 2.
I could of course simply pick some years I want to replay, but I thought I'd open it up to the community here to help determine what we should look at. So is there any particular year you would like to see replayed in an upcoming blog? I will consider all suggestions and if there's any sort of overwhelming majority I can go with that. |

I want to start a league in 1994, because NHL94 was huge for me. So can I import the rookies properly, does the game ship with the relevant prospects in the system for each team? Knowing if that functionality works would be huge.
So....I'd like to see something from 1994 to present day

If you're going to do more than one, a taste of Original Six, some 70s Broad Street Bully action, 80s high flying Oilers, Rangers 94 Cup!

1983 - 84 to see if the Oilers can come close to duplicating their 446 goal season.

67-68, the first year for the expansion teams.

1. Original Six. How does the game handle the original hockey era? Of course that covers a huge time frame, but I'd look at the the Mid 60s right before expansion. If you want to get ambitious, maybe add a season from the Mid 40s as well. 2. Mid 70s. The Broad Street Bullies era. Can the game realistically deal with the fights and physical play of the time? 3. Late 80s. Can FHM properly simulate the game when scoring was at its height? 4. Late 90s. Neutral Zone Trap era. Can the engine effectively model the low-scoring, defensive style made (in)famous by the Devils? |

Hummm....
1929-30 : For scoring levels lulz, a TRULY dreadful team and another about two players away from being such. 1955-56 : Best team of all-time. 1967-68 : Expansion. 1979-80 : See 1967-68. Bonus point if the exact same final can be recreated. Spoiler : it shouldn't happen. Mainly considered to be the beginning of a dynasty, but a very important part is still missing. 1992-93 : See 29-30, with a league also comprised roughly of 15% VERY BAD TEAMS. |

93-94! I would love to build a team surrounding Pavel Bure or Dominic Hasek. So I would love to see how they pan out!

Here's my list and the reasons why if you are able to.....
1970-71: Orr had 100 assists on D; Esposito had 76-76-152 and Boston had 7 players in the top 10 in scoring including the top 4. 1981-82: Gretzky's 92 goals, 212 points and the highest scoring season in modern NHL history. 1985-86: Gretzky's 215 points and absurd 163 assists; Coffey's 48 goals on D and Lemieux's impressive 141 sophmore season with NOBODY on his line. 1992-93: Lemieux's 160 points in only 60 games...arguably the most dominant season ever. Record number of 50 goal and 100 point players. 1998-99: Dead Puck era....Hasek's obscene save percentage and Jagr's impressive 127 points in a very low scoring season. Most of us i would say don't care. We just want to take a look at historical mode in general.

Not sure about most. I think many are interested in whether or not the game can accurately represent specific eras, especially ones that were drastically different than the norm.

Great picks. FHM1 did ok with low scoring seasons, but was abysmal with the kinds of seasons and individual performances you listed. I'd add the WW2 high scoring era... is Maurice Richard able to replicate 50 in 50? Last edited by G-Nuke; 08-16-2015 at 12:48 PM. |

I have never played the historical mode so I have no idea what to expect. Will Edmonton always trade Gretzky to LA unless you are controlling one of those teams? Will teams always draft like they did? What if Boston drafted Patrick Roy, that would have been awkward... |

Yeah, I agree....FHM1 was OK in simming a low scoring era but horrible in the high scoring era's. So that's why I'd really like to see how FHM2 handles the high flying 80's and 90's and I'm particularly interested in seeing how the game handles 100 point defensemen especially guys like Orr and Coffey. From what Cole and another who's name escapes me have replied with to an earlier post I had I think I'll be quite happy how FHM2 handles the higher scoring era's....seems to be much better.

Many other options to so that players develop from their starting point, or you can have them reset to actual ratings each season. Will be interesting to see how much of this flexibility is built in at the beginning. |
