Professional Replay Baseball League 1939 Hall of Fame Ballot

Welcome to the 1939 Hall of Fame election for the Professional Baseball Replay League!

Ever since 1901, we have been faithfully simming the history of baseball over again with different players, different personalities, and different histories. When we entered 1936, the year in which the first ever Hall of Fame elections took place, we followed that tradition.

14 players and two managers were elected into the first ever Hall of Fame class in 1939. You can take a look at those players here:

PBRL Hall of Fame Plaques

I want to stress that you can vote for anyone who is retired. The list of players below are a recommendation of the 10 or so best hitters and pitchers. If you vote for a player who is not listed below, I will automatically add them to the ballot next year. Please feel free to look at our Catobase, which is enhanced with many stats many version of Cato usually lack.

Pro Replay History - League Statistics and History

If you take a look at the leaderboards for OPS+, ERA+, and Win Shares, you can get a good feeling.

ANYONE CAN VOTE!

But if you aren’t active in PBRL, please submit a serious ballot or don’t vote at all.

And now, the players, and then the votes!

Players need 75% to be elected. Each voter can vote for up to 10 players.

The *'s were easy choices....

I'd like to make a plea for Lassiter. If you put the raw stats aside he was during his career one of the most feared sluggers in the game. He also came back after a loooong layoff and pitched well for a half season before he fell back to earth. Lassiter is one of those cases wher I think numbers shouldn't be the only factor. I would add Dane too but he didn't have the charisma and charm that Lassiter had...That is if you follow the storylines of the league...

Posting this for JT, GM of the Phillies:

Quote:
Joel Praetorius (3000 hits, led the league in BA 3 times, 2 BOTY and a great WS record)

Milton Shifman (short career, but has 3 BOTY)

Biff Best (351 wins, great WS record)

Jack Birdsong (I don't need an explanation)

Calhoun - People should really look at him more. The "totals" may not be there perse, but he basically single-handedly was the pitching end of back-to-back ring winners. His acquisition lifted us from good back to great.
