Today is the final game in the series in Chicago between the Cubs and the Giants with the Giants needing to win to salvage a split in the series. The Cubs pounded out sixteen hits in yesterday's victory.

The Cubs activated LF Jimmy Sheckard from the disabled list.

In the bottom of the second, Steinfeldt struck out for the 20th time this season.

McGraw led off the top of the third with a home run.

After three: New York 1 Chicago 0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Moran tied the game with an RBI triple.

In the bottom of the sixth, Chance gave the Cubs the lead with his own RBI triple. Schulte then scored Chance with a sacrifice fly.

After six: Chicago 3 New York 1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Evers became the third different Cubs batter to hit an RBI triple in the game. Chance then hit his record tying second triple of the game to bring in two more runs.

Doc Reisling took the mound for the Giants in the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, Bowerman got an RBI single. The Giants then loaded the bases with one out. Pinch hitter Bill Dahlen hit a sacrifice fly before Strang grounded to the pitcher to end the game.

Final score: Chicago 6 New York 3.

In the bottom of the first, a two out single gave Chance his 100th hit of the season. But he would be stranded at second.

In the bottom of the second, a throwing error on a Kling grounder to short allowed Slagle to score from third.

In the bottom of the third, Schulte had a run-scoring double.

After three: Chicago 2 Brooklyn 0.

In the top of the fourth,Alperman hit an RBI double.

In the bottom of the fifth, Schulte gave the Cubs some breathing room with a two RBI double.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Cubs scored another run, this time on a Sheckard two bagger.

After six: Chicago 5 Brooklyn 1.

In the top of the seventh, Ritter drew his 20th walk of the season. But he would get no further than first base.

In the bottom of the eighth, Sheckard hit an infield single but would leave the game with a leg injury. He was replaced by Pat Moran. The Cubs would go on to load the bases with one out. A Schulte fly ball to right would not score a run and therewere two outs. McCarthy then dropped a Slagle fly ball, allowing two runs to score.

That put the icing on the cake for the Cubs.

Final score: Chicago 7 Brooklyn 1.

Today is the second game in the series in Chicago between the Cubs and the Brooklyn Superbas. The Cubs are riding a four game winning streak. There will be no American League games today.

The Cubs placed 1B Bull Smith on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 19.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Ed Siever has a torn labrum and will miss the rest of the season.

The Cleveland Naps have traded LF Jim Jackson and LF Joe Birmingham to the Chicago White Sox for SP Roy Patterson.

In the bottom of the first, the Cubs loaded the bases with one out. Slagle drew a full count walk and that forced Chance in with the game's first run. Kling flew out to center without picking up an RBI and there was two away. Hofman then grounded to short to end the inning and the Cubs were held to just one run.

In the top of the third, Abbaticchio tied the game with an RBI triple.

In the bottom of the third, Slagle put the Cubs back on top with an RBI single.

After three: Chicago 2 Brooklyn 1.

The bottom of the fourth saw a 57 minute rain delay.

In the top of the sixth, throwing errors on back-to-back plays allowed Lumley to score the tying run. Casey then put the Superbas in the lead with an RBI double.

After six: Brooklyn 3 Chicago 2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Evers tied it back up with a run-scoring single. Evers would then be caught stealing second. It was the 50th time this season that Bergen had thrown out a would-be base stealer.

The top of the ninth began with pinch hitter Phil Lewis striking out for the 20th time this season. The Superbas went down in order.

The Cubs went down in order in the bottom of the ninth and the game went into extra innings.

After nine: Brooklyn 3 Chicago 3.

The top of the eleventh ended with Beebe striking out pinch hitter Lew Ritter for his 10th K of the game.

In the bottom of the eleventh, the Cubs had runners at the corners with two out but Noonan grounded to short to end the inning.

In the top of the thirteenth, another throwing error by Chance allowed Emil Batch to score the go-ahead run. Chance made another error and Abbaticchio scored as a result.

In the bottom of the twelfth, with a runner on second, Schulte flew out to left to end the game.

Seven errors by the Cubs cost them the game as only one of the five Superbas runs was earned.

Final score: Brooklyn 5 Chicago 3 12 innings.

In the bottom of the first, the Cubs scored the first run of the game on a Steinfeldt single. Evers followed with a single and the Superbas second error of the inning allowed Steinfeldt to score all the way from first. Hofman then singled to center but Reardon threw Evers out at home as he tried to score from second and that ended the inning.

In the top of the second, Casey brought the Superbas first run home with a single.

In the bottom of the third, Chance got his league leading 40th stolen base of the season as he swiped second. Chance would go on to score on a Schulte groundout to second. Evers added an RBI double.

After three: Chicago 4 Brooklyn 1.

In the top of the fourth, McIntire got an RBI single. An RBI single by Abbaticchio made it a one run game. An error by Chance loadedthe bases with two out. Lumley then singled up the middle to bring two home and give the Superbas the lead. Alperman added a run-scoring double as the Superbas put up a crooked number.

In the top of the sixth, Lumley hit a solo home run.

After six: Brooklyn 7 Chicago 4.

In the bottom of the eighth, Hofman got his 50th hit of the season but Moran struck out to strand runners at first and second.

The Cubs would not threaten again as the Superbas would use a 13 hit attack to get the win.

In the bottom of the eighth, Schulte put the Cubs back in the lead with an RBI single.

Pfiester then pitched a perfect ninth to get the win.

In the top of the second, Cubs had Steinfeldt at second with two out. Kling singled up the middle but Bates threw Steinfeldt out at home to retire the side.

In the top of the third, Dolan threw Moran out at home as he was trying to score from second on a Hofman single.

After three: Chicago 0 Boston 0.

In the top of the fourth, Steinfeldt stole his 20th base of the season. But he would be stranded at second.

In the top of the fifth, the Cubs finally got on the board with a successful squeeze play as Evers laid down the bunt that scored Moran. On batter later and Chance scored Evers on a single. Schulte followed with a single that loaded the bases with one out. Steinfeldt then got a two-run single. An infield single by Kling brought home another run but Kling hurt his leg running to first and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Pete Noonan. Moran followed with an RBI single. When the top of the fifth finally ended, eleven Cubs had come up to bat with six of them scoring.

In the bottom of the fifth, Howard scored from third on a Strobel ground out to third to put the Superbas on the board.

In the top of the sixth, Evers crossed the plate on a Chance groundout to second.

After six: Chicago 7 Boston 1.

In the top of the seventh, Steinfeldt was thrown out trying to steal second. It was the 70th caught base stealer of the season for Needham. Later in the same inning, Moran hit a two run homer. After Beebe reached base on a two out error, Mike O'Neill replaced Flaherty on the mound for the Beaneaters and he got the final out.

In the bottom of the seventh, Beebe struck out the side around a one out walk.

Leading off the bottom of the ninth, Beebe struck out pinch hitter Frank Connaughton for his 10th K of the game. Beebe would then end the game with strikeout number eleven as the Cubs outhit the Beaneaters 15-4 for the convincing win.

Final score: Chicago 9 Boston 1.

In the top of the first, Evers swiped second for his 30th stolen base of the season. Chance then brought him home with a single.

In the bottom of the first, Reulbach walked the first two batters he faced and then Brain tied the game with an RBI single.

In the top of the fifth, an infield hit by Noonan brought Slagle home with the go-ahead run.

In the top of the sixth, Schulte swiped second for his 25th stolen base of the season. Steinfeldt then brought him home with a single.

After six: Chicago 3 Boston 1.

Noonan led off the top of the seventh with a triple and then scored when Reulbach tripled. Reulbach would go on to score when Tenney was unable to field a Chance grounder. Schulte brought Chance home with a double. Steinfeldt then singled to center but Bates threw Schulte out at home as he tried to score from second.

Dolan would lead off the bottom of the seventh with a triple and would go on to score when Needham grounded out to short.

In the top of the ninth, Evers would deliver his 10th sacrifice hit of the season, moving Reulbach to second. Hofman would then bring Reulbach home with a single. Hofman would later try to steal third but end up scoring instead on a Needham throwing error.

It was another dominating win for the Cubs over the Beaneaters as they out hit Boston 14-5.

Steinfeldt led off the game by hitting his 20th double of the season. But he would be caught stealing third.

In the top of the second, Slagle put the Cubs on the board with an RBI single. Noonan addeda two-run triple. Strobel then threw the ball away on a Steinfeldt grounder and Noonan was able to score from third as the Cubs scored four in the inning.

In the top of the third, Slagle came through again with an RBI single. Slagle was then thrown out trying to swipe second base, givingNeedham 75 caught stealers on the season.

In the bottom of the third, the Superbas got on the board thanks to an RBI single by Bridwell.

After three: Chicago 5 Boston 1.

Dolan led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple and then scored on a Strobel groundout to short.

In the bottom of the sixth, Brain hit an RBI triple.

After six: Chicago 5 Boston 3.

In the top of the eighth, Strobel threw the ball away on a Chance grounder to commit his 30th error of the season at second base. The Cubs then turned that into an RBI single for Schulte. Slagle then added yet another RBI single. Moran followed with a single but Bates threw Slagle out at home as he was trying to score from second.

Those eighth inning runs put the game away. The Cubs had pounded out eleven more hits as they finally finished a sweep of the Beaneaters.

In the top of the second, the Cubs had runners at the corners with one out. Moran then beat out the 4-6-3, allowing Schulte to score from third to put the Cubs on the board.

In the bottom of the third, Mertes hit his 20th double of the season. McGann then singled to bring Mertes in with the tying run. Devlin followed with his 40th walk of the season before Strang grounded to first to end the inning.

After three: Chicago 1 New York 1.

In the bottom of the fourth, a throwing error by Evers on a ground ball from Burke allowed Dahlen to score from second to give the Giants the lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Strang picked up an RBI single. Strang then swiped second for his 10th stolen base of the season. However, he would be stranded at second.

In the top of the sixth, a run-scoring single by Steinfeldt cut the Giants lead to one. Slagle then singled as well but Burke threw Chance out at home as he was trying to score from second.

Two more errors in the bottom of the sixth allowed the Giants to tack on another run.

After six: New York 4 Chicago 2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Devlin struck out for the 40th time this season.

The Cubs, however, would once again be held to just two runs and could not overcome their four errors as they lost their sixth straight.

In the top of the first, Chance, after McGann had dropped a foul popup, took advantage of his second chance and hit an RBI double.

In the top of the third, Hofman hit an RBI double but injured his leg sliding into second. He was replaced by Bull Smith.

After three: Chicago 2 New York 0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Giants loaded the bases with nobody out. Pickering then put the Giants on the board with a sacrifice fly. Smith committed an error on a Burke grounder and bases were loaded with one out. Ames flew out to center and there were two down. Reulbach then struck out Bresnahan to end the inning and the Cubs still had the lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Pickering tied the game with an infield single that scored Strang from third.

After six: Chicago 2 New York 2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Devlin gave the Giants the lead with an RBI single. Strang then followed with his fourth hit of the game, an RBI double. Dahlen then knocked Strang in with a single. Noonan then dropped a Pickering fly ball and Dahlen scored the inning's fourth run.

In the bottom of the eighth, Bresnahan scored from third when McGann grounded out to first.

The two teams combined to commit nine errors. The Giants had twelve hits and for the seventh straight game, the Cubs failed to score three runs.

In the bottom of the third, Strang drew a one out walk for his 70th base on balls of the season. But he would be stranded at second.

Moran led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to give the Cubs their first hit of the game. He would later score to tie the game on an Evers sacrifice fly. Hofman then delivered a two out RBI single to give the Cubs the lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Giants loaded the bases with two out and tied the game when Devlin scored on a wild pitch. Burke then grounded to short to send the game into extra innings.

In the top of the tenth, the Cubs loaded the bases with nobody out. Chance went down on strikes for the first out. Schulte then hit an RBI single and the Cubs finally had scored more than two runs in a game. Steinfeldt added an RBI single. Slagle then brought in two with a double. Moran capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly. Weldon Henley took the mound for the Giants with a runner on second and two out and he finally ended the Cubs onslaught.

In the bottom of the tenth, Bresnahan hit a run-scoring double. But that is all the Giants would get as the Cubs seven game losing streak finally came to an end.
