Preferences: I'll look at FIP and WHIP first as I find them to be more accurate. I generally go with GB pitchers whenever possible, but if you have a pitcher's park, then FB pitchers do just fine and you can corner the market on them quite easily.
A trick for drafting pitchers that I've used with some success is to grab a guy out of high school with at least 2 good pitches (one of them a fastball) and a high work ethic and intelligence. He will stand a slightly better chance of a talent bump. Naturally, this strategy works better in the late rounds when there's not much left on the table.
Limit the number of pitches on relievers with control issues...get them out after one or two innings to prevent a disaster.
