*Elite* Leagues
What would you consider as the elite historical, fictional, and modern OOTP leagues?
I'll start off by naming Cooperstown Diamond Legends, Glory Days Baseball Association , and the National Baseball Simulation League (I think that's waht it stands for) as the best. Baseball Maelstrom is superb, but young. I will not nominate any fictional leagues, as I commish one and might be biased.

Geez, we get some recognition and he doesnt even know what we stand for !!! but thanks Specs.
Here are 2 leagues that I think are very good OTHER than the NBSL. The Hickory Baseball League http://www.hblbaseball.com/ and the Computer Baseball League http://www.sportplanet.com/sbb/vesuv...n/cblindex.htm I havent really paid a ton of attention though. |

Thank you for the recognition, Steve. I don't think we can start a discussion of elite leagues without mentioning the Boys of Summer as well. (Sorry, I can't do the fancy link thing.)

Yeah BoS is a great league as well. I forgot that one. Most leagues on the OOTP server are pretty good. www.ootp-leagues.com

I like to count MLBC as an 'elite' league. Started in the days of OOTP2 by Brent Dehart with the 1905 season, is now in 1922 season (with a great race in both leagues). Is a historical league with totally historical settings. All incoming rookies are meticulously edited in fielding and running and use career average for rookie season. Owners include originals Andy Watkins, Bill Morin, Theresa Dehart, Brent Dehart and John Lill. Other owners include Iatric Stacy Bond who is commish of Boys of Summer, Mike Quinn who is also a commish I believe. Remaining owners are also quality owners; chefjimi Patricola, Arlene Cherry, Lee Geeker, Bill Hammond, Mark Benson, Mike Richer, Eric McCoy and Jim Carmichael. Its these owners that make MLBC an 'Elite league and a great deal of fun for all involved.

Computer Baseball League
I may be a *bit* bias...but here goes-
Check out The Comptuer Baseball League. (CBL) We are now in our *TENTH* season using OOTP !!! http://www.sportplanet.com/sbb/vesuv...n/CBLindex.htm We have a great commish (Eric Wedge), great webpage/graphic designer (Oscar), and a great group of 28 VERY dedicated owners. VERY low turnover rate the past few seasons. Maybe 1 new owner every 2 sim years. We also feature *LIVE SIMS* every week. Yep, our commish TYPES out the results for us on Thursday nights. There are other great leagues out there, but in my opinion CBL is numero uno. -Heath |

I have to agree that the CBL is one of the better looking online league I have seen since starting to play online leagues back in 1997

I'd like to include my ABL (www.thepostgamereport.net), but I don't think we're even close to that neighborhood yet. Once the almanac is finished, and I get into a pattern of writing articles every day, maybe we'll have more fans.
Until then, just gotta please your own. Peace John |

I'm going to disagree with my partner above. There isn't any league out there that could be considered numero uno. If there is one thing that OOTP provides, is the chance to set up almost any kind of possible league format. The FOBL can't be compared to The CBL, the CDI can't be compared to the FOBL, as so the story goes. Then you have different rules, different interests, etc. Different strokes for different folks. There's room for everyone and competition when fun is about is pretty much silly.

I can't judge real player leagues because I don't like them much...
As far as fictional I think the ABA has the most overall plus's.... They have proven good owners. Its a brand new league that is commissioned by a veteran which means it has the best of both worlds. Being around 3 real time years is a good thing but then you don't get to have all the new features from the get go...(community add-on's like Wallman's) It already has a lot of interest and owners who are looking to generate more interest.

I seem to have halted this post by confusing the forum tradition! Yes, I am neither an owner or commissioner in the league I endorsed. :O

My personal favorite of the leagues I'm in, is the Summer of '49 league www.so49.com . We've only got 2 seasons under our belt, but the league is well on it's way to being among the "elite". Good Owners, a Great Commissioner, and Creative New Articles gives you plenty to like.

I'll put in another vote for So'49...it makes me feel more like I'm actually running a baseball team than any other league I've been in. There's not a huge amount of posts to the message board or news articles, but what's there is almost always interesting and well-written- sometimes smaller is better. I've also never been in a league as popular with it's owners as this one- in the 1.5 seasons I've been involved only one owner has left. I think the main thing is that the commish has a real appreciation for 1950's baseball and it comes through in the league. If you like historical sims, this is definitely one to check out.
