Question can't start historic league

I have OOTPB8 ver 8.0.1.12. Every time I try to create a histoic league with a start date of earlier than 1977, I get the windows has encountered an error msg. I am running XP, 2.8ghz, 1gig mem.
When I use 1977 or later it works fine. I tried years 1938, 1940, 1945 - all got them same error. Please help

Historic League Creation Crash

I'm having the same problem using Vista Ultimate as the OS. Each time I attempt to create a historic league prior to 1977 (whether I import the complete data or not), I crash completely out of the game. No change in compatibility to 8.0.0.12 works any better.

I'm having the same problem. I want to start a 1969 historical league, using the Montreal Expos (I'm from Quebec), and after the first screen, the game crash. I'm on Vista and I have an high tech computer, so it can't be a problem of my lack of power.

I was unable to reproduce this crash. Can someone post the exact steps you take to get this including options checked, etc.?

I get the same problem and my steps are pretty simple

Click on "New Custom Game"
Click on "Create Historical League"
Change Season Year to XXXX (I've tried 1920 and 1968)
Click on "Next Step"

I've toggled nothing else on or off.

I can reproduce this on my laptop every time now. I haven't tried it on my desktop yet - the laptop is 8.0.0.9 and the desktop is 8.0.0.12

I have started a game in 2008 using Lahman so it does appear to be tied to the start year.

I've done it both ways (through the wizard and advanced) and am getting it to crash it I set the year to 1968 or earlier.

1969 was the year that San Diego, Seattle, Kansas and Montreal joined the Majors wasn't it (probably not linked)

No, when I tried a 1969 start the teams were already there...

Unhappy I have this problem too

Like others have said, when I try to import a historical season (1901) The game crashes and I get the windows announcement about unexpected error. I have downloaded the latest patch and reinstalled, nothing helps

You can start in 1977 or later and everything works fine. Anything before 1977 crashes. I'm running WinXP SP2 so I don't think the OS has anything to do with it.

Well, I hope they will find something for this... I have bought this game to be able to start an historical league from the expansion draft with the expos and one starting in 1901... For now, I have paid for nothing...

Database problem?

I have the same problem creating historical leagues when I use the Lahman database included with OOTP 8, but when I use the Lahman 5.4 database it works. I just imported leagues for 1968 and 1901 using the 5.4 database.
Maybe there's a problem with the database included with OOTP 8?

Further testing seems to point at the Lahman files as being the problem. I used v5.4 of Lahman (1878-2006) in OOTP8.0.0.12 and was able to import 1945 for example without a problem. Do the same with v5.5 of Lahman and this error manifests itself.
