AI won't rest catcher if another player on the team is rated there but plays another position
Something I'm noticing in my early 90s playthrough is that I occasionally come across a team with a catcher at 0% but his team keeps playing him.
Upon looking at the position ratings for the team, I see the problem. The team has another player on the roster rated at C but plays him at a different position and never at catcher. Perfect example is the Astros, who have Craig Biggio (rated at C but plays 2B). The Cardinals (with Todd Zeile, rated at C/3B) also have this issue. Would there be a way to force a team to start the "other" catcher (Biggio or Zeile) if the "regular" guy drops into the red? Or somehow get them to carry three rated catchers? I'm playing OOTP 19, but I don't know if this issue still persists in 20. |

The difference with 19 and 20 is that in 19 you can't setup your depth chart to have starters backup other positions. In 20 you can. That was one of the new features they managed to implement. So in 19 players who start a position are somewhat locked into that position for the season. The AI isn't the smartest to play them in their secondary positions if they are starting at a position currently. With 20 you can absolutely have Biggio backup C while starting at 2B.
