Carl Froch went down under to Australia to make his 3rd title defense against the rugged & dangerous, Sakio Bika.

Carl basically controlled the entire fight as the superior boxer & then stepped on the gas late, a hook dropping Bika late in the 14th & a right cross sending Bika to the canvas in the 15th as well. The ref stepped in @ 2:36 to end an impressive road title defense for the champ.

Carl was up 138-126 & 137-127 twice on the cards with a 469 (39%) to 234 (25%) PL edge.

Carl's now 25-1 & Bika's 16-3.

IBF JMW title

Tony Harrison went to Poland to try to take back the belt from Pawel Wolak. Pawel took the belt from K-9 Bundrage in a surprising fashion - a 5th round KO.

Early on, Tony used both his speed & powerful body shots to confuse & hurt the champ. It wasn't until the 5th & Pawel timed a left hook that sent Tony to the canvas for a count of 7. However an obviously still hurt Tony caused his corner to throw in the towel & the ref waved off the fight @ 2:40.

Pawel in now 2-0 vs. fighters from Michigan, stopping both in the 5th & made his 3rd title defense.

In a stay busy tune up defense, IBO champ (Travis Simms) made his 12th title defense with a 5th round TKO of the over matched Janks Trotter.

Janks hoped his relative youth to the champ would help win the belt in front of his fans in Canada but 2 KD's in the 5th forced the ref to step in.

Simms is now 24-2-2 & hopes to land a big fight before the end of this year.

WBC/WBO WW unification bout

WBO WW champ, Ruslan Provodnikov, was willing to come to Denmark to face the fearsome long time WBC champ, Thomas Damgaard - making his 14th title defense.

In a back & forth affair, a 4th round uppercut KD for a 5 count turned out to be the deciding factor for Ruslan as he won a tough, hard fought SD 143-142 twice while the judge from Luxembourg had Thomas winning 144-141.

In a fight between 2 champs, it was fitting Ruslan edged Thomas 292 to 291 in PL & Thomas had the slight edge in accuracy - 28% to 26% for RP.

Ruslan is now 5-0 @ 147 while Thomas suffers only his 2nd defeat @ WW to fall to 20-2-1 (only other WW loss was to 6 Heads Lewis years ago.)

And the 3rd time was the charm

Olusegun Ajose lost via a 15 UD to WBA JWW champ, Danny Garcia, last December. So new IBF champ, Lucas Matthysse, decided to come to London to fight Ajose in his 1st title defense.

That turned out to be a mistake as the surprising Ajose used superior boxing skills to eke out a 15 SD, 142-141 twice, (1 judge had Lucas winning 142-141) over the hard punching Argentine.

It was Ajose 3rd title shot, prior to the Garcia loss last December, he was cut & stopped in the 8th against Mike Arnaoutis.

It was the 1st loss for Lucas who's now 19-1, 18 KO's.

Ajose also won the PL battle: 402 (34%) to 328 (20%).

There were no KD's in the fight.

Vacant WBC JWW belt

With Ruslan recently winning a 2nd belt @ 147, he reluctantly vacated his WBC one so Lamont Peterson met Humberto Soto for the title.

Lamont came into the fight 6-0-1 (5 KO's) with his draw being against the fearsome Juan Manual Marquez. It was felt by many it was LP's belt to lose. The rugged Soto had a different plan & a close fight ended with a 1 punch uppercut @ 1:49 of the 8th & the title going back to Mexico!

2 judges had the fight even: 68-68 & 67-67 while 1 had Lamont up 68-66.

Soto had the PL edge: 162 (40%) to 147 (23%).

Soto's now 10-1 with 7 KO's.

WBC MW title

GGG came to London to face the old war horse & former 2 time MW champ, Wayne Alexander.

GGG has had problems getting fighters willing to face him but Wayne said he wasn't afraid, he went 15 with Arthur Abraham & won his 1st title when a cut in the 15th gave Wayne his 1st belt.

GGG controlled the action, a cross dropping Wayne early in the bout for a 3 count & a hook in the 8th ending it @ 2:46 of the round.

GGG made his 6th defense & is 22-0, 17 KO's.

Wayne's now 24-9-1.

The year both fighters were born was used to promote this fight for the vacant IBO MW belt in France.

Grzegorz Proksa brought his unbeaten record (10-0, 9 KO's) to France to face former IBF champ, Hassan N'Dam.

Proksa had been waiting patiently for a long time to get his title shot & he made the most of it in the opening round battering N'Dam's face & eyes so much so that they both began to swell. After more of the same in the 2nd round, Proksa appeared to take his foot off the pedal realizing N'Dam was a higher level operator than those he was used to taking out early. From that point on, GP appeared to conserve his strength anticipating a long night until a combo from N'Dam was answered with a solid left cross right on the button that ended the night @ 1:42 of the 11th.

GP had the clear edge in PL: 261 (32%) to 141 (15%) & 2 of the judges agreed having Proksa up 99-91 (Japan) & 98-92 (England) but the Mexican judge had the fight even @ 95 each.

With the loss, N'Dam drops to 20-4, 16 KO's.

WBA MW title

In a surprise move, Felix Sturm agreed to come to Canada to face former IBF MW champ, Joachim Alcine.

Many expected a close boxing match but Sturm made Alcine look much older than the 3 year age difference would have suggested.

Felix dominated throwing a near shutout on the cards: 150-135 & 149-136 twice. Sturm also landed an incredible 543 punches (40%) to 127 (16%) for the Canadian.

It was Sturm's 2nd defense & is now 28-2 (5 KO's) & only Alcine's 2nd loss @ 160 - now 13-2 (3 KO's).

Both 18-0 so one 0 had to go!

Guillermo Jones came to Germany to face the fearsome puncher, Marco Huck, in what was Jones' 3rd defense of his WBA CW belt.

The fight was expected to be an explosive affair between 2 huge punchers but both played it safe - maybe due to the mutual respect each had for the power of their opponent.

It wasn't until the 9th when a left hook from Huck sent Jones to the canvas. Jones recovered & returned the favor in the 14th when a huge overhand left dropped Huck. He rose on unsteady feet but Jones would not be denied & kept punching until the ref stepped in @ 2:55 of the round.

In a tight fight, Jones led 124-121 on 2 cards while Huck was ahead 123-122 on the 3rd.

Jones is now 19-0 (15 KO's) @ CW while Huck's 18-1 (18 KO's).

Jones also had the PL edge: 348 (38%) to 290 (30%).

It's Stieglitz time!

IBO SMW champ, Robert Stieglitz, came home to Germany to make his 1st title defense after his impressive 11th round KO of Badou Jack in Sweden to win the vacant belt.

Andy Perez amounted to a stay busy defense for the new champ & a left hook in the 1st almost ended Andy's night as he just beat the count rising @ 9.

Robert finished him in the 5th with a TKO to move to 24-3.

All Brit SMW battle

In a fight many saw as a tossup, WBO SMW champ, Errol Christie, made Luke Blackledge look like a hapless sparring partner.

Errol dropped the brave Luke 6 times before a merciful halt was called @ 1:35 of the 12th.

EC was much more impressive in this title defense than his last where he was lucky to gain a draw against Aussie, Ben McCulloch.

Errol's now 8-1-1 (6 KO's) with his lone loss to Japan's Yuzo Kiyota - the IBF champ. Yuzo defended his belt last week for the 7th time with a 10th round KO of Vladine Biosse.

WBO JMW fight

WBO champ, Sechew Powell, made his 7th title defense against fan fave, Canelo Alvarez in the MGM in Vegas.

And the way he fought, the Iron Horse had no intention of giving up his title to the Mexican hero. The fight was close but in the 6th, Powell sent Canelo to the canvas for an 8 count. Alvarez was lucky to make it out of the round as Sechew did all he could to end matters there.

Powell appeared to take control of the fight until the 9th when a left hook dropped Sechew for a 1 count near the bell. From that point forward it was a give & take affair.

In the end, Canelo did just enough to eke out a 15 SD - 142-141, 143-141 & 141-142.

Powell had the PL edge: 383 (42%) to 348 (31%).

Canelo's now 11-2 & Powell is 25-3.

Making his 13th defense, Travis Simms basically dominated Miguel Cotto & stopped the Puerto Rican star @ 2:28 of the 14th round.

Cotto hit the deck 5 times & all 3 judges had Simms up 128-118 on the cards.

Simms lead in PL: 376 (30%) to 247 (35%).

Simms is now 25-2-2, Cotto is 12-3.

Making his 4th defense, Poland's Pawel Wolak looked impressive once again knocking out the overmatched Wilky Campfort in the 9th round.

Wolak's now 7-0-1 (6 KO's) - his draw against JMW destroyer & IBO champ, Travis Simms.

I had WBA MW champ, Felix Sturm, test the waters @ 168 & in a fight it appeared he controlled, 288 PL to 130 (Sturm also won the % battle 29% to 20%) but the Italian judge had Ed Bryant winning 96 to 93.

Lucky for Sturm, the 2 American judges had him winning easy: 99-90 & 98-91.

In a fight that sure didn't live up to the hype, Anthony Mundine made the 1st defense of his WBO MW belt with a 3rd round TKO of the once fearsome, Andy Lee.

AM hurt Lee with uppercuts & to the body & landed about 8 hard shots to 1 feeble right hook counter from Lee before the ref stepped in to end it.

AM's now 12-1 (all KO's) @ MW & Lee falls to 25-2-1 (21 KO's).

Lee's 1st bad loss, previous one was losing his IBF belt to Alcine by decision.

IBO/WBO HW champ, Joseph Chingangu, (fighting out of Italy), made his 1st defense against Irish American street brawler, Mike Morrissey.

The fight went about as you'd expect, in a time span of 1:53, Mike hit the deck twice, didn't land a punch & was hit 30 times by Joseph.

Mike was featured on a recent AHC series - Blood Feuds.

WBA JWW belt

Danny Garcia turned up the heat & was able to turn back the challenge of boxing vet, Lanardo Tyner, via an 11th round KO.

Danny controlled the bout early but a hard right cross from Tyner dropped the champ for a KD & 1 count @ the end of round 7. Danny came out looking for payback in the 8th - easily winning the round.

In the 11th, a vicious Garcia combo ended the night for Tyner - who had gone 15 rounds last April with then WBC champ - Ruslan Provodnikov. Ruslan dropped Tyner 6 times in that fight so that may have taken some starch out of the old vet.

It was Danny's 5th defense & he's now 11-0, 8 KO's.

Tyner's now 5-3 (4 KO's).

Sergey Kovalev made the 4th defense of his WBO LHW belt with a 12th round TKO of the durable Isaac Chilemba.

Isaac did well early but Sergey's power eventually showed up in later rounds as the Russian bomber dropped Chilemba 5 times before a merciful halt was called @ 53 seconds into the 12th.

Sergey remains perfect @ 10-0, all KO's & it's Isaac's 1st taste of defeat.

Also back in December, Adrien Broner ventured north to Canada to take on Antonin Decaire. It was a fight Broner dominated & then ended with a left hook 32 seconds into the 13th.

It was AB's 2nd defense of his WBA WW strap & he was up on the cards: 117-110 & 116-111 twice.
