Kind of the way I see it going to be honest. I felt the computer choosing strategies was better than me doing it as I tend to be biased towards the sluggers...lol

United States - Light heavyweights Round 1 - Part 11

Round 1 - Part 11:

Joe Kahut vs Tom Bethea - Kahut scored a 2nd round knockdown only to have Bethea get up and forge a solid lead before landing a 2nd knockdown in the 13th, this time for the come from behind KO.

Richie Kates vs Ray Berry - Kates put together a solid performance building up a big lead with good aggression then scoring a knockdown in the 10th before landing a big uppercut for the KO in the 11th.

Abie Bain vs Yusaf Mack - Mack came out flat, allowing Bain to score at will to start the fight then landed a perfect cross that put Bain down for the count as the 1st round was near the end.

Paul Andrews vs Jerry Martin - Martin opened a gash on the right eyelid of Andrews in the 1st round, reopened it in the 3rd then again in the 4th before the referee had the doctor have a look and it was stopped for the Martin TKO on cuts.

Fred Moore vs Prince Badi Ajamu - After a close action packed 1st round that saw Ajamu cut, Moore came out firing in the 2nd, scoring a knockdown then pouring it on before the referee halted it for the TKO.

Anthony Witherspoon vs Rodney Moore - Witherspoon built up an imposing lead, scoring knockdowns in the 12th and 14th rounds then barely held on as Moore scored a knockdown in the 15th round. It went the distance with the judges scoring it 10-4, 9-4 and 9-5 decision by Witherspoon.

Bobby Cassidy vs Bobby Jennings - Cassidy boxed well for most of the fight despite being mauled at times by the harder hitting Jennings. Jennings scored 2 knockdowns, but it wasn't enough to defeat the slick boxing Cassidy who won the bout 8-7, 8-6 and 9-6 decision.

Len Hutchins vs Johnny Davis - Davis built up a decent lead with slick boxing, but was cut in the 6th round then had the cut reopen several times before the fight was halted in the 10th round for the Hutchins TKO.

Rico Hoye vs Billy Douglas - Douglas started out very fast, scoring well and taking the first 3 rounds with ease, then Hoye unleashed a wicked combination in the 4th round that flattened Douglas for the count!

Clarence Hinnant vs Tiger Hairston - Close bout that saw Hairston choose the boxers roll while Hinnant was aggressive as always. Neither man was down, Hinnant was cut in the 1st round but his corner did a bang up job of keeping it closed as this one went the distance. The judges scored a close bout 7-6, 7-7 and 9-5 for the winner by majority decision Hinnant.

United States - Light Heavyweights - Round 2 - Part 1

Round 2 - Part 1:

Gene Tunney vs Jerry Celestine - A dominant boxing performance by Tunney as he punished Celestine every time he got close, scoring 3 knockdowns and winning handily despite losing a point for a low blow in the 13th round. It went the distance with Tunney taking it 13-0, 13-1 and 13-1.

Michael Spinks vs Richard Frazier - Spinks had a bit of trouble with Frazier who had a great round in the 4th but then faded as Spinks started to assert his will before scoring the KO in the 9th round.

Archie Moore vs Leo Kelly - Moore mauled Kelly for 4 knockdowns in 3 rounds, the final one for the 3rd round KO with 6 seconds left in the round.

Young Stribling vs Karl Zurheide - Stribling came out a man on a mission, punishing Zurheide then scoring the KO shot with 52 seconds left in the 1st round.

Tommy Loughran vs Sam Baroudi - Loughran was content to jab and move most of the fight to keep Baroudi off balance and out of reach. The forumla worked to perfection as Loughran earned the 12-2, 12-3 and 10-2 decision.

John Henry Lewis vs Jesse Bowdry - After 3 uneventful rounds Lewis exploded for 4 knockdowns including a tremendoush shot under the ribcage of Bowdry that put him down for the count with 15 seconds left in the 4th.

Tommy Gibbons vs Joe Butler - Gibbons came out flat, not even landing a punch in the 1st round but came on strong in the 3rd, scoring 2 knockdowns including the KO shot on a wild hook that put Butler down for the count.

Bob Foster vs Johnny Colan - Foster was in complete control throughout, landing heavy shots that Colan was unable to answer. Foster dropped Colan in the 6th round then punished him until the referee halted it with 41 seconds left in the round for the TKO.

United States - Light Heavyweights - Round 2 - Part 2

Round 2 - Part 2:

Ezzard Charles vs Arthur Flynn - Charles used his superior defensive skills to dominate, scoring a knockdown off a wicked cross, nearly closing the left eye of Flynn. It was an accidental cut over the left eye from a butt that ended things in the 9th round to send it to the judges. Charles didn't even allow Flynn to land a punch in the first 3 rounds, and only 13 punches total through the first 5 rounds. The judges had it 8-0, 8-0 and 6-1 through 8 rounds for the Charles decision.

Tommy Yarosz vs Alvin Green - Yarosz was on cruise control in this one, doing just enough to win the majority of the rounds while Green was fighting to the best of his ability to make this an interesting bout between two stylists. It went the distance with the judges scoring it 9-6, 10-5 and 11-4 for Yarosz.

Maxie Rosenbloom vs Rocky Jones - Rosenbloom was masterful in this one, using his defensive wizardry to drive Jones nuts at times, holding him to 154 landed shots in 15 rounds while landing 484 of his own off of a beautiful jab, timely combinations and effective counterpunching. It showed in the score cards as the judges had it 12-3, 13-2 and 10-5 for Rosenbloom. Rosenbloom also had a pair of knockdowns in this one.

Philadelphia Jack O'Brien vs Larry Lane - O'Brien was in total control of this one, boxing beautifully and making Lane look foolish at times until he suddenly broke his hand on a hard shot to the head of Lane and was unable to continue to hand Lane the major upset TKO! O'Brien was seeded 12th coming into this tourney and was considered a possible contender for the world tourney berth with his skill set.

Joey Maxim vs Glenn Robinson - Maxim was poetry in motion in this one, moving side to side, darting in to score at will then darting out again to avoid the offense of Robinson. It did go the distance as neither man was down, with the judges scoring it 13-2, 10-4 and 13-2 for Maxim.

Tiger Jack Fox vs Curtis Stevens - Fox came out strong, scoring punches in bunches to put Stevens away for the TKO with 1 second left in the 2nd round.

Jack Dillon vs Anthony Witherspoon - Dillon didn't impress though he won the fight handily 10-4, 11-3 and 9-5 as for most of the fight he seemed willing to clown around and posture.

Billy Conn vs Bobby Cassidy - There were times in this fight that watching paint dry was more exciting as Conn was willing to dance and stay away without mounting much of an offense through most of the fight. This allowed the lightly regarded Cassidy to stay in the fight til the end with it going the distance. The judges scored it 7-7, 8-5 Conn and 8-7 Cassidy for the draw. Rematch to follow.

Rematch:

Billy Conn vs Bobby Cassidy - Conn came into the tourney ranked 16th and nearly lost his opening bout, but ended up with the draw against Cassidy. In this fight the fight appeared even again when Conn opened a cut in the 3rd round then reopened it in the 5th round for the TKO.

United States - Light Heavyweights - Round 2 - Part 3

Round 2 - Part 3:

Jimmy Bivins vs Clarence Hinnant - Bivins boxed well against a game Hinnant who kept trying to pressure the elusive boxer. It went the distance without any knockdowns and the judges scored it 11-4, 9-3 and 9-4 for Bivins.

Kid Norfolk vs Rico Hoye - Hoye did a great job early on in stalking and cutting off Norfolk. It didn't pay off however as he punched himself out by the 10th round and Norfolk cruised from there to take the 8-7, 10-5 and 8-6 decision.

Michael Moorer vs Len Hutchins - A terrific action bout as Hutchins gave as good as he got with the exception of a knockdown in the 9th round then Moorer scored the KO shot in the 11th. I had Moorer well ahead, but Hutchins fought a valiant fight throughout!

Harry Matthews vs Joe Kahut - I don't know what they told him in his corner, but after going down 2 times in the 6th round Matthews came out firing on all cylinders, seemingly a different fighter from that point on, scoring a knockdown in the 13th then the KO at the end of a 14th round that was a round of the decade candidate!

Joe Knight vs Richie Kates - Knight was content to pick Kates apart from afar in this one, and it worked well as he took the suprising split decision that was 8-6 Kates (??) 11-2 Knight and 10-4 Knight. When the first judges score was read the crowd started booing as they thought it was the start of Knight being robbed, but those jeers turned into cheers as the final judges score was announced. Knight landed 68% of his shots compared to an anemic 20.8% by Kates.

Harold Johnson vs Yusaf Mack - Johnson was leading despite a shocking knockdown by Mack in a RotY candidate when a gash reopened over his right eye that ended the fight for the shocking Mack TKO on cuts!

Antonio Tarver vs Jerry Martin - Tarver dominated in every phase of the fight, scoring 442 punches and 6 knockdowns compared to only 113 punches landed by the inept Martin. Tarver wasn't able to seal the deal however, and it went the distance and the judges had it 14-1, 14-1 and 13-2 for Tarver.

Tony Shucco vs Fred Moore - Moore gave Shucco a much tougher match than expected, landing the heavier leather and taking a slight lead on my card when Shucco tore open a gash on the left eyelid of Moore that ended the fight with 43 seconds remaining in the 14th round. Moore was up 7-6 on all 3 cards at the time of the stop.

Good to see my fellow Minnesotan advance. You can take the boy out of Minnesota, but you can't take Minnesota out of the boy!

The sad thing for Moore is he was so far ahead in the 14th round that he would have won the round, thus the fight regardless of the 15th round had it gone the distance as the judges had it 7-6 through 13.

United States - Light Heavyweights - Round 2 - Part 4

Round 2 - Part 4:

Willie Pastrano vs Leonard Morrow - A brutal battle that saw Pastrano swelling around both eyes and Morrow's left eye near closed. Neither man was down, and Pastrano's movement carried the day as the judges scored it 9-6, 10-5 and 9-6.

Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Danny Nardico - This was a shocker of a slugfest that saw Saad Muhammad and Nardico battle from pillar to post for nearly the entire bout with Saad Muhammad going down in the 5th round then 2 times in the 11th before the referee halted the bout for the mega upset TKO, much to the chagrin of PWillis!

Bert Lytell vs George Nichols - A rather dull fight that went back and forth with little action and no knockdowns saw the judges score it 8-6 Nichols, 7-7 even and 7-7 even for the majority draw. Here's hoping the rematch is more entertaining.

Virgil Hill vs Johnny Romero - A close bout between 2 stylists saw Hill's defense and movement carry the day 7-5 on all 3 cards.

Tuffy Griffiths vs Mike Rossman - A great match of contrasting styles saw Rossman forcing the action throughout while Griffins moved well and countered to hold him off just enough to score a knockdown in the 14th round and take the decision 8-7 on all 3 cards.

Jack Delaney vs Etienne Whitaker - Delaney was very effective in working the body and cutting off the ring, wearing Whitaker down then scoring 2 knockdowns in the 10th round. Sensing that he had Whitaker nearly out, he came out hard and continued the carnage in the 11th until the referee stepped in and halted the bout with 59 seconds left in the round for the TKO.

Melio Bettina vs Sunny Jim Williams - Bettina wasn't pretty in his dismantling of Williams, but he sure was effective, scoring a pair of knockdowns before the fight was halted in the 9th for the TKO as Williams was clearly hurt and unable to fend for himself.

Jimmy Slattery vs Fernando Zuniga - Slattery used his considerable boxing skills to perfection, nearly closing Zuniga's left eye then opening a horrid gash in the 11th round for the TKO on cuts.

Rematch:

Bert Lytell vs George Nichols - Both men suffered cuts, but other than that it was more of the same in this one, though I had Lytell winning 8-6. It did go the distance with the judges scoring it 8-6 Lytell, 8-6 Nichols and 8-6 for the winner by split decision Lytell.

That's disgusting, but Nardico does usually outperform his ranking in everything I've done.

Nardico simply showed more heart in this one tbh. Both men landed hard shots throughout, and it was anyone's fight when the TKO happened.

United States - Light Heavyweights - Round 2 - Part 5

Round 2 - Part 5:

Al McCoy vs Ray Actis - A back and forth bout that saw Actis score the lone knockdown against McCoy. It went the distance with the judges scoring it 8-6 Actis, 7-4 McCoy and 7-7 even for the draw.

Battling Levinsky vs Bob Amos - It was one thing after another for the snake bit Levinsky as Amos broke his nose in the 3rd round then Levinsky broke his right hand in the 3rd and was unable to continue for the upset TKO by Amos.

Doug Jones vs Bobby Brown - Jones was boxing well, building up a solid lead though Brown had his share of good shots in this one. Jones was swelling badly around the left eye when his left eyebrow burst open and started gushing the claret for the TKO upset on cuts for Brown.

Leo Houck vs Marvin Camel - A back and forth bout that saw both men landing harder than expected leather when suddenly the normally light hitting Houck landed a viscious uppercut that floored Camel for the count in the 12th round. The fight was dead even through 11 rounds.

Al Gainer vs Eddie Davis - Gainer came in soft, and it cost him as Davis was in tip top shape, was faster on the draw and much more determined, scoring 3 knockdowns, 2 in the 13th round including the KO shot with no time left in the round.

Louis Del Valle vs Jimmy Dupree - A close fight through 4 rounds went south for Dupree as Del Valle landed a wicked combination to floor him in the 5th, then the KO shot on an uppercut at the end of the 8th round.

Chad Dawson vs Willie Edwards - A dominant performance by Dawson saw Edwards near blind in the right eye as he went down 5 times, the 5th one in the 11th round for the KO.

Joe Choynski vs Fitzie Fitzpatrick - Choynski was in control of this one when he opened a horrid gash then widened it throughout the 8th round for the TKO on cuts.

Rematch:

Al McCoy vs Ray Actis - McCoy was much more effective in this one though Actis showed a lot of heart, fighting on despite his right eye nearly being closed. It did went the full 15 rounds with the judges scoring it 10-5 McCoy, 8-7 Actis and 9-6 for the winner by split decision McCoy.

I use random so that each fighter has a real cornerman and cutman working for them. There are times that they're duplicated, but I over look that...lol

United States - Light Heavyweights - Round 2 - Part 6

Round 2 - Part 6:

Paul Berlenbach vs Bob Godwin - Berlenbach came out strong, scoring a knockdown on an uppercut early in the 1st round then the KO shot on a wicked cross with :39 left in the round.

Prince Charles Williams vs Montell Griffin - Williams survived a flash knockdown in the 3rd round then took control, nearly closing the left eye of Griffin enroute to the 11-4, 12-3 and 9-6 decision.

David Telesco vs Willie Henry - Telesco was dominant, scoring 4 knockdowns and nearly closing the left eye of Henry when suddenly out of nowhere Henry landed the perfect cross that put Telesco down for the count!

Jimmy Slade vs Marvin Johnson - Johnson broke open a huge gash on the bridge of the nose of Slade in the 1st round then widened it in the 2nd then the 3rd for the TKO on cuts.

Lou Scozza vs George Khalid Jones - Jones scored the lone knockdown in a back and forth bout to earn the narrow 8-6, 7-7 and 8-6 majority decision.

Eddie Mustafa Muhammad vs Fred Lenhart - Muhammad came out dancing, but Lenhart was able to keep him cornered most of the fight, battering Muhammad and amassing a solid lead when Muhammad uncorked a viscious hook that put Lenhart down for the count late in the 8th round.

Ted Lowry vs George Manley - Lowry tried to stick and move, but Manley wasn't having any of that as he cut off the ring well, punishing Lowry throughout, scoring a knockdown in the 15th round before the fight was halted due to swelling around Lowry's left eye. Both men sported cuts that were pretty bad, but good corner work kept them from being the deciding factor.

Bob Foxworth vs David Sears - Foxworth came in the favorite, but Sears was unimpressed, smothering him with a viscious attack throughout, scoring 3 knockdowns before it ended up going the distance. The judges scored the bout 10-5, 10-4 and 10-5 for the underdog Sears.

United States - Light Heavyweights - Round 2 - Part 7

Round 2 - Part 7:

Bobby Czyz vs Bobby Stininato - Czyz had complete control throughout, puffing up Stininato's left eye and scoring a knockdown in the final round to cap off his 11-3, 11-3 and 11-4 decision.

Tavoris Cloud vs Jack Sullivan - Sullivan fought well for the first 8 rounds, keeping the fight close despite the offense of Cloud. In the 9th round however Cloud landed 2 knockdowns, the final one for the KO at the :57 mark in the round.

Dan Bucceroni vs Larry Temple - This was a dead even back and forth slugfest that saw neither man down until the 9th when Bucceroni landed a hook that dropped Temple as if he'd been hit by a shotgun for the KO.

Battling Bozo vs Mark Tessman - An entertaining bout between two boxing stylists saw this fight go down to the final round with both men badly cut and bleeding. The fight did go the distance with it being a toss up, and the judging reflected that as it went 7-6 Bozo, 7-6 Tessman and 7-6 for the winner by split decision Bozo.

J.B. Williamson vs Wayne Thornton - A classic boxer vs puncher matchup went back and forth throughout as these two traded rounds on a regular basis. Williamson went down in the 12th and returned the favor, knocking Thornton down in the 13th round. On my card it was dead even through 14 and Thornton easily took the final round to take it 7-6 on my card. The judges had it 7-5, 8-6 and 8-6 for the winner by unanimous decision Thornton.

Charley Williams vs Jimmy Webb - A grueling bout saw both men bloodied and battered but it was Williams that had the torn eyelid that ended the fight half way through the 15th round. Webb was up 8-6 on one card with the other 2 cards at 7-7 through 14.

Oakland Billy Smith vs Ricky Womack - Smith battered Womack throughout, keeping him well cornered and scoring the lone knockdown in the 11th round enroute to a solid 11-3, 10-4 and 11-3 decision.

James Scott vs Jimmy Adamick - Scott was building up a huge lead, taking 7 of the first 8 rounds in this impressive effort by both fighters when he walked into a huge uppercut by Adamick that put him down for the first of three knockdowns in the 9th round, the final one for the 10 count as Adamick came from behind in impressive fashion.

United States - Light Heavyweights - Round 2 - Part 8

Round 2 - Part 8:

Roger Rouse vs Leeonzer Barber - A brutal affair that saw both men down, with Rouse going first in the 7th then in the 9th Barber dropped for a 9 count. Both men sported bad swelling, but it was a nasty gash on the bridge of the nose of Barber that ended the fight in the 10th round for the TKO. Rouse was well ahead at the time, but there was no doubt he'd been in a fight none the less.

Jack Root vs Nick Barone - Barone fought well early, building up a lead but Root closed strong to even things up on my card 7-7. It went the distance with the judges scoirng it 8-6 Root, 9-6 Barone and 7-7 even for the draw.

Bob Olin vs Nate Bolden - Not a lot of action in this one, though it did look as if Olin had done enough to win the fight. It went to the judges and they scored it 7-6 Olin, 7-6 Bolden and 9-6 for the winner by split decision Bolden. The crowd roundly jeered the decision of this one.

Bob Murphy vs George Courtney - A great slugger's fight as Murphy survived 2 early knockdowns to score one of his own, then opened a gash on the forehead in the 14th that tore open again in the 15th round for the TKO. Muphy was up 8-6 on 2 cards and the 3rd was 7-7 through 14.

Mike Mandell vs Jimmy Delaney - A tremendous action bout that went back and forth throughout, with neither man down. Mandell had a near closed eye when a nasty cut opened on his right eyelid that ended the bout for the TKO in the 11th round. I had it dead even through 10.

Gus Lesnevich vs Young Firpo - Lesnevich worked well from the outside, sticking and moving while Firpo loaded up for the big shot. Firpo landed a huge overhand right in the 11th round for a knockdown, but Lesnevich took over from there despite losing a point in the 13th for a low blow, he won the majority decision 10-4, 7-7 and 10-5.

Alabama Kid vs Tommy Harrison - Harrison scored a suprising knockdown in the 1st round then went down in the 6th round as Kid built up a small lead through the 8th round. Harrison got up then used his movement and boxing skills to befuddle Kid the rest of the way to take the 9-5, 10-4 and 10-4.

Billy Jones vs Chris Henry - Jones danced well, but Henry was equally effective stalking as he scored the lone knockdown then opened a cut that ended the fight in the 12th round. I had Jones ahead 6 round to 4 through 11 when Henry ended it for the TKO.

Rematch:

Jack Root vs Nick Barone - Root was well ahead in this one, boxing with fluid movement and countering well when Barone broke his left hand on the forehead of Root to end the fight for the Root TKO.

United States - Light heavyweights - Round 3 - Part 1

Round 3 - Part 1:

Gene Tunney vs Larry Lane - Lane stalked to no avail as he wasn't able to close the distance as Tunney made him pay throughout. Slick movement and great outside offense led to Lane suffering a near closed right eye when in the 11th Tunny landed a left hook that floored Lane for a 6 count. Tunney then kicked into another gear until the referee stepped in for the TKO later in the round.

Michael Spinks vs Yusaf Mack - Spinks used superior power, defense and accuracy to pick Mack apart from outside, scoring 3 knockdowns, 2 of them in the fatal 12th before the referee stepped in for the TKO. Spinks landed an amazing 409 shots compared to only 58 by Mack during this one sided affair.

Archie Moore vs Danny Nardico - Nardico was valliant in this one, but wasn't able to handle the power and hand speed of Moore as he went down twice, the final time in the 7th round for the KO. Nardico's incredible run ended with him going out on his shield and the crowd gave him a standing ovation for his efforts against the highly favored Moore.

Young Stribling vs Bob Amos - Amos moved well at times, but for the most part it was Stribling's agressiveness that controlled the pace of the fight as he scored 5 knockdowns including the KO shot in the 13th round.

Tommy Loughran vs Bobby Brown - Loughran danced very well, though at times he got lazy allowing Brown to take several rounds. It went the distance with Brown bloodied and battered by Loughran's quick hands. The judges scored it 9-5, 8-6 and 10-4 for Loughran.

John Henry Lewis vs Eddie Davis - Lewis was dominant against the over matched Davis, scoring at will until the 5th when he landed a perfect uppercut for the KO with 10 seconds left in the round.

Tommy Gibbons vs Willie Henry - No knockdowns, no cuts, no swelling, just amazing footwork by Gibbons and incredible hand speed while landing weak punches to win against the plodding Henry by the score of 12-2 on all 3 scorecards.

Bob Foster vs Marvin Johnson - Foster stayed outside but still scored a knockdown in the 3rd round. He then used Johnson's over agressiveness against him in the 5th, scoring 2 more knockdowns including the KO with 9 seconds left in the round.

United States - Light heavyweights - Round 3 - Part 2

Round 3 - Part 2:

Ezzard Charles vs George Khalid Jones - Charles stayed at ring center with Jones throughout, scoring at will then landing a thunderous hook in the 3rd round for the KO. He outlanded Jones 83-12 in this one.

Tommy Yarosz vs George Manley - This was a closer than expected fight, with Manley doing quite well in forcing the action. Yarosz became visibly frustrated, and on his 5th foul was disqualified for blatantly using his shoulder as a weapon in the 11th round for the Manley win by disqualification.

Maxie Rosenbloom vs David Sears - With both men bleeding in a very close and very short bout, it was the cut over the right eyebrow of Rosenbloom that was deemed to severe to continue, handing Sears the shocking upset!

Joey Maxim vs Wayne Thornton - Thornton gave Maxim quite the bout, forcing the action and not allowing Maxim to keep away. Maxim countered well however and built up a solid lead before tearing a gash on the right eyelid of Thornton that ended the fight in the 9th round.

Tiger Jack Fox vs Jimmy Webb - Fox landed an obviously blatant low blow in the 1st, and after recovering Webb came out incensed, scoring a knockdown later in the round. Fox came back with one of his own in the 2nd, then took over from there scoring well then scoring 2 more knockdowns in the 6th, the final one for the KO at the very end of the round.

Jack Dillon vs Jimmy Adamick - Dillon's slick defense and rock hard chin served him well against the hard hitting Adamick as he picked him apart for 15 rounds to win the 10-5, 7-8 and 9-6 split decision.

Billy Conn vs Nate Bolden - This was a dog of a bout, with both men staying outside throughout, making it near impossible to score. It came to a sudden halt however when Conn landed a thunderous blow to the nose that literally flattened it, causing massive bleeding and forcing the referee to call the halt for the sudden Conn win by TKO.

Jimmy Bivins vs Jimmy Delaney - Bivins had complete control throughout, scoring a pair of knockdowns enroute to the 12-1, 11-2 and 12-1 drubbing of Delaney.
