Australia SW Division

No entrants in the Jr. Flyweight division, and only 3 entrants in the Strawweight division. Lyall Appo is the top seed so will fight the winner of the 1st match between Rick Budgen and Jack Russell.

Rick Budgen vs Jack Russell - Russell doesn't waste any time with Budgen scoring the KO in the 4th round.

FINAL:

Lyall Appo vs Jack Russell - Russell had dreams of a big upset in this one, taking it to Appo despite going down in the 3rd. He was ahead on 2 of the 3 cards when Appo dropped a bomb that ended the dream! Appo heads to the World Tourney.

Australia Recap:

Peter Jackson takes the heavyweight division as expected, and is a real threat to win the entire thing with his skill set.

In the Middleweight division Les Darcy was a major disappointment not winning his weight class.

Young Griffo and Jeff Fenech also have the potential to go all the way!

Bahamas

I'll do all of the entrants for the Bahamas in this post as there aren't many fighters.

HEAVYWEIGHTS

ROUND 1:

Sherman Williams vs Boston Blackie - Williams came out and thoroughly destroyed Blackie scoring the KO in the 1st round!

Wendall Newton vs Reynaldo Minus -Minus suffered a cut due to an accidental clash of heads sending it to the judges in the 9th. He pulled off the upset winning the 9 SD!

FINAL:

Sherman Williams vs Reynaldo Minus - Williams was patient, wearing Minus down. Finally in the 10th he had Minus in serious danger to his health, which prompted the Referee to end the bout. Williams will represent The Bahamas in the World Tourney!

Baby Boy Rolle - LHW
Freeman Barr - SMW

2 solid fighters will fight for the Middleweight title:

Yama Bahama vs Gomeo Brennan - tough close defensive battle despite Bahama going down in the 3rd. Brennan wilted in the championship rounds however to allow Bahama to pull away, taking the fight 8-6, 9-4, 7-6. Bahama will represent The Bahama's in the Middleweight class.

Elisha Obed - JMW
Edner Cherry - LW

Yama Bahama may end up being a force in the world Tourney.

Barbados

All single entrants for Barbados

Panama Joe Gans - MW
Ivor Germain - LW
Andy Straughn - CW
Joe Walcott - WW

Both Gans and Walcott are among the all-time greats, so should be a force for tiny Barbados!

Belarus

Only one fight in the Heavyweight division, the rest are single entrants

Serguei Lyakhovich vs Piotr Sapun - You knew it was going to be a short night when Sapun was knocked down on the very first punch in the fight! He somehow survived the 1st round, but was KO'd with 47 seconds left in the 2nd round after not having landed a single punch! Lyakhovich advances!

Yuri Foreman - JMW
Yuri Romanov - LW

Lyakhovich and Romanov are the top prospects for Belarus.

Belgium

There's a small enough base here that I'll just do one post for the entire country:

We have 8 heavyweights:

ROUND 1:

Karel Sys vs Arthur Meurant - Sys has little trouble with Meurant, dominating throughout. 3 knockdowns later Meurant is down for the count in 8.

Pierre Charles vs Wilde Piet - A Charles knockdown and a Piet point deduction made the decision in this closer than expected bout as Charles edges Piet in a 15 round UD.

Jean-Pierre Coopman vs Gert Van Laere - Coopman was simply robbed by the referee! He came out landed Lan Laere 42-0 in an abbreviated 1st round when what was an obviously incidental and accidental clash of heads was ruled intentional and Coopman was DQ'd!

Alain Cherville vs Louis Wilms - Cherville had the fight well in hand until a cut stopped the bout in the 7th to give Wilms a 7 TKO.

ROUND 2:

Karel Sys vs Gert Van Laere - Sys continues to dominate taking out Van Laere with a KO in the 4th.

Pierre Charles vs Louis Wilms - Charles scores the TKO on cuts in the 7th to meet Sys in the finals.

FINAL:

Karel Sys vs Pierre Charles - Sys came in a 5-2 favorite and walked out a stunned loser when cuts ended his night in the 14th for the TKO. It really was a shame as Sys had built up a big lead against the game Charles. Charles will be the entrant for Belgium in the Heavyweights!

We have 2 Cruiswerweights:

Ismail Abdoul vs Jose Seys - Seys scored the lone knockdown and was the agressor throughout to earn a narrow Majority Decision and head to the World Tournament.

We have 2 Light Heavyweights:

Gustave Roth vs Freddy DeKerpel - Roth showed excellent skills in dismantling DeKerpel for the 15 round Unanimous Decision.

We have 3 middleweights so #1 seed and highly touted Cyrille Delannoit gets a bye:

Leon Fourquet vs Andre de Keersgeiter - Fourquet will fight Delannoit next after his 2 round KO of de Keersgeiter.

Cyrille Delannoit vs Leon Fourquet - Yet another highly regarded Belgian fighter disqualified as Dellannoit builds up a huge lead only to throw it away with his 2nd low blow in the 10th round for the DQ. Fourquet is Belgium's Middleweight entrant.

We have 2 Welterweights:

Jackson Osei Bonsu vs Fernand Floreal - Floreal showed suprising defense, but you could feel a train wreck coming as Bonsu kept coming. Finally in the 10th a pair of knockdowns had Floreal senseless when the referee finally stopped it for the 10 TKO to send Bonsu to the World Tournament.

Jurgen Haeck - JWW
Jean-Marc Renard - JLW
Jean Sneyers - FW

We have a pair of Bantamweights:

Joe Cornelis vs Pierre Cossemyns - This was a close fight until Cossemyns was cut in the 5th and spent the rest of the fight protecting the cut, giving away rounds. The cut reopened 2 times, the final time in the 8th to end things, TKO for Cornelis who goes to the World Tournament.

Joseph Horny - FLY

Belgium's 2 top prospects were disqualified, severely hurting their chances of making any sort of impact as a team. Bonsu is now the top prospect for this team.

Belize

Belize has a lone entrant in the Welterweight division and a pair in the Lightweight division:

Rudolph Bent - WW

Ludwig Lightburn vs Lefty Satan Flynn - Lightburn scored the lone knockdown, landed 492-1157 (42.5%) punches to 250-1159 (17.7%) by Flynn. Lightburn pretty much dominated, winning 9-4 on my card, but then we went to the judges who scored it 8-7, 7-7, 8-7 for Lightburn! How they could have seen it that close noone knew. Lightburn moves on to the World Tourney, where he has the chance to make some noise!

Brazil

Brazil has a small enough contingent that I'll post them all in one thread:

HEAVYWEIGHTS:

3 Fighters George Arias gets the bye.

Adilson Rodrigues vs Carlos Barcelet - Pure domination by Rodrigues, though somehow Barcelet stayed on his feet before the referee halted the festivities in the 3rd for the TKO by Rodrigues.

George Arias vs Adilson Rodrigues - A lot of back and forth in this one but Arias went down in the 7th, had his right eye nearly closed, a cut under his left eye. The fight ended in the 12th when a cut over the left eye of Arias (caused by an accidental butt) was sent to the referee's. This was a tough fight to call as the judges scored it 6-5 for Arias, 7-4 for Rodrigues and 7-3 by the winner and Brazilian entrant for the World Tourney!.....

Adilson Rodrigues!

CRUISERWEIGHTS:

There are 4 entrants in this division.

Laudelino Jose Barros vs Rogerio Lobo - Lobo came in the lowest seed in the tourney and a 3-1 underdog, but 1 punch in the 4th round sent him to the next round!

Daniel Bispo vs Ezequiel Paixao - Paixao used knockdowns in the 8th, 11th and the all important 15th to earn the UD 9-6, 8-7, 8-7.

Ezequiel Paixao vs Rogerio Lobo - Lobo again came in the underdog, this time 5-2. He survived a wicked knockdown in the 8th to generally outslug Paixao throughout to win 9-5, 8-6, 10-4. I had it 9-5 for Lobo myself. Lobo earns his way into the World Tourney in unexpected fashion!

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS:

Only a pair of contenders here.

Peter Venancio vs Marco Antoio Duarte - After splitting the first 2 rounds Venancio started the 3rd with a thundering right that floored Duarte. He then opened a wicked cut over the left eye and pounded Duarte unmercifully until the referee finally stopped the carnage for the 3 TKO. Venancio heads into the Tourney!

SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHTS:

Again, a pair of contenders.

Reginaldo Andrade vs Roberto Coelho - These 2 threw heavy leather with bad intent, Andrade scoring 4 knockdowns and Coelho scoring 2. It was reminiscent of Rockem Sockem Robots! When all was said and done the fight went to the judges, something no slugger likes to see! I had the bout 7-7 and the judges scored it 7-7, 8-6, 8-6 for the winner and Brazilian entrant for the wold tourney Roberto Coelho!

MIDDLEWEIGHTS:

Would you believe 2 entrants yet again?.....

Fernando Barreto vs Rogerio Cacciatore - Pure domination by Barreto as he was pitching a shutout when he scored the KO in the 8th. Barreto enters the World Tourney with this win.

Miguel DeOliveira is the lone entrant at Jr. Middleweight.

Everaldo Azevedo is the lone entrant at Welterweight.

JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT:

Joao Henrique vs Kelson Pinto - Pinto tried to bang with Henrique, but couldn't handle the superior hand speedthat Henrique showed. Things ended suddenly in the 8th as Henrique scored a pair of knockdowns, the final one for the count of 10! Henrique is expected to make a mark in the World Tourney as one of Brazil's top entrants!

Acelino Freitas is the lone entrant in the Lightweight Division. He's one of the top prospects on the Brazilian team.

Vlademir Pereira is the lone entrant in the Featherweight division.

Giovanni Andrade is the lone Jr. Featherweight entrant.

BANTAMWEIGHT:

We have a pair of Bantamweights:

Eder Jofre vs Waldemiro Pinto - Pinto wasn't afraid of "The Brazilian Bombshell" scoring a knockdown in a great 2nd round that so far is the round of the tourney! Unfortunately for him Jofre came out and returned the favor in the 4th with a wicked uppercut that was lights out for Pinto! Jofre is considered by many to be the favorite in the Bantamweight division to win the World Tournament!

Vincente Wellington is the lone entrant at Strawweight.

Bulgaria

Bulgaria has 2 fighters, both in the Jr. Lightweight Division:

Tontcho Tontchev vs Kirkor Kirkorov - Tontchev came out and dominated throughout before finally scoring the TKO in round 6 as he was punishing Kirkorov at will. Tontchev proudly represents Bulgaria as their lone entrant in the World Tourney.

Cambodia

Cambodia has 4 entrants, all in the Flyweight division:

Mintan Kampuch vs Sala Kampuch - Sala Kampuch outboxed Mintan Kampuch throughout to win the UD 10-3, 10-4, 10-5.

Yu Samang vs Wan Wanpho - Very close fight with too many pick-em rounds to get an accurate score. I had it 6-4 for Samang. The judges scored it 7-6, 7-5, 7-7 for the winner Wan Wanpho.

Wan Wanpho vs Sala Kampuch - Kampuch dominated this one in all phases of the game winning 11-1 on my card. The judges scored it 9-5, 10-3, 12-2. Kampuch will represent Cambodia in the World Tourney.

Cameroon

Cameroon has 12 fighters so I'll post all results in one post.

HEAVYWEIGHTS:

We have 3 entrants. Paul Mbongo gets the bye.

Carlos Takam vs Samuel M'Bendjob - Neither man went down in this one, but Takam was the faster and stronger throughout winning the decision by the score of 10-4, 12-3, 11-4.

Paul Mbongo vs Carlos Takam - In what was an entertaining bout, Paul Mbongo earns the 11th round TKO stoppage on cuts as Takam's right eye just wouldn't stop bleeding. Mbongo will move to the World Tourney.

CRUISERWEIGHT:

We again have 3 entrants with Norbert Ekassi receiving the bye.

Simon Bakinde vs Jean Claude Bikoi - These 2 came to rumble! Both men had their share of huge rounds but in the end it was Bikoi's propensity to cut that ended things in the 10th round to send Bakinde to the next step against Norbert Ekassi.

Norbert Ekassi vs Simon Bakinde - Bakinde came in a 2-1 underdog but scored the lone knockdown and proved the better of the 2 in a rather mundane effort by both men. Bakinde is the suprise entrant into the World Tourney.

Manu Ntoh is the lone entrant for Light Heavyweight.

Sakio Bika will represent Cameroon in the Super Middleweight division.

Patrice Mbeh Benle will head to the World Tourney in the Junior Middleweight division for Cameroon.

Philippe Bafounta is the Welterweight entrant.

FEATHERWEIGHT:

Olivier Lontchi vs Elvis Ali - The fight was dead even, the crowd had gotten behind the underdog, chanting Elvis Lives! Elvis Lives! when Lontchi landed an obvious low blow for the 3rd time in the 5th for the DQ! ELVIS LIVES to go on to the World Tourney!....

Canada - HW Division Round 1a & 1b

We have 34 heavyweights so 4 fighters will vie for the final 2 spots in the 32 man field.

ROUND 1a:

Young Dempsey vs Billy Drover - Drover was solid throughout but was badly cut in the 4th. He came out with a vengance in the 5th, scoring 3 knockdowns then piling it on before the referee stepped in to save Dempsey! Drover earns a berth in the 32 man field.

Rufus Hadley vs Cleve Hawkins - Hawkins started out strong, but was cut in the 6th round and spent the rest of the fight protecting the cut, allowing Hadley to take the 15 round UD.

ROUND 1b:

George Chuvalo vs Billy Drover - Chuvalo wasted little time with Drover, scoring 3 knockdowns then pouring it on in the 1st for the TKO.

Robert Cleroux vs Rufus Hadley - Cleroux dominated the first 8 before scoring the KO in the 9th.

Trevor Berbick vs Raymond Olubowale - In an absolute shocker Olubowale scores a knockdown enroute to a 15 round unanimous decision over the off the board favorite Berbick! This was a shocking upset!

Kirk Johnson vs Charlie Robinson - Johnson was in complete control over Robinson in the first 6 rounds. He then capped things with the KO in the 7th to move on.

George Old Chocolate Godfrey vs Cyclone Scott - Godfrey dominated from the start scoring a knockdown in the 1st then a pair in the 2nd before the referee called a halt to the bout for the TKO in the 2nd round.

Jack Renault vs Tom Glesby - Glesby was doing remarkably well in this one before Renault landed a wild haymaker in the 7th for the KO.

Donovan Ruddock vs Jack Munroe - Ruddock scored a pair of knockdowns in the first 1:12 of the 1st round, the 2nd for the KO at 1:22!

Sandy Ferguson vs Al Delaney - Delaney made a fight of it but Ferguson was faster and stronger, and Delaney was cut badly in the 3rd. The cut reopened in the 4th to end things as the doctor advised the fight be stopped. TKO win for Ferguson.

Larry Gains vs Pat Doran - Gains opened an old fashioned can of whoop-ass on Doran, battering him until the referee stopped it in the 4th for the TKO.

Earl Walls vs David Cadieux - Walls pounde Cadieux all over the ring for 2:29 before the referee ended the carnage for a TKO in the 1st.

Art Binkowski vs Jack Gagnon - Binkowski came in the heavy betting favorite and left a thoroughly beaten man as Gagnon scored a pair of knockdowns enroute to a 13-0, 10-3, 10-3 decision.

John J Dwyer vs James J Parker - Dwyer used fast hands and solid defense to win a majority decision 7-7 9-5 8-6.

Arthur Pelkey vs Jean-Francois Bergeron - Bergeron was cut on the right eyelid in the first, and by the 2nd it was a gory mess when the referee finally stopped it for the 2 TKO.

Gordon Racette vs Patsy Cardiff - Racette committed 6 fouls to Cardiff's 3 yet Cardiff lost a point along the way in this dirty fight. Cardiff was the better fighter overall according to the judges who scored it 7-4, 5-6, 7-6 for Cardiff. I had it 5-5 with 5 rounds too close to call. Cardiff moves on.

Willie DeWitt vs Joe Lannon - Excellent action bout with many too close to call rounds. I had it 6-4 for Lannon but the judges scored it 6-6 on all 3 cards for the draw. Rematch coming up!

Duncan McDonald vs Bermane Stiverne - McDonald overcame 2 knockdowns to win a close fight 8-7 on all 3 cards. He had a much stronger offence overall and a better defense.

REMATCH:

Willie DeWitt vs Joe Lannon - Another good effort by both men, but Lannon was the stronger overall in this one using pinpoint accuracy to take the fight 10-5, 9-6 and 8-7 to head into round 2.

He's probably already shocked by Berbick's unlikely loss to a fighter rated 0. I know I am!....
