DaveTheWave's Fantasy Fights
I've played this off and on for years, bought the 2013 version, totally exhausted by all the problems with it, so I've been back to 2.5 last couple weeks.
I've been having more fun with this than ever due mainly to checking that little box that says "check to adjust for weight classes"... That coupled with me putting all heavyweights that are 200ish lbs and under as well as LHWs that fought heavies in the cruiserweight division. What an enormous difference that made when it comes to realistic outcomes! Many more decisions, much more believable results. I usually run the autoscheduler to combine similar weight classes with the "adjust for weight classes" and now I'm not nearly as frustrated as I've always been. I've always adjusted ratings for all the fighters, but now the ratings make more sense. For instance, Floyd Patterson, Marciano, Dempsey, and Louis as HWs were always able to knock around the guys who are so much bigger; consistently knocking dead decent guys like Lyle, Rahman, Ruddock, and even greats like Tyson, Lewis, etc... But when rated as CWs, they may still win via KO occasionally, but many more times now they win by decision or lose a decision or get KO'd terribly. I can't tell you how many times I saw Patterson KO Liston or Frazier KO Foreman before. Consistently. Now, those matches go a more realistic way, with Liston and Foreman predictably and consistently winning as they did consistently in real life. Another example is Bob Foster- drastically better and more believable results, mainly that he does okay against the CWs, but not so hot against the real HWs. This game definitely isn't perfect and it could be vastly improved with additions to the ratings system, but I haven't been frustrated yet or totally outraged at certain outcomes. |
