Would you make this trade?
I'm contemplating a trade with the Colorado Rockies in which the Chicago Cubs would trade either SP Tsuyoshi Wada or SP/RP Travis Wood, IF Arismendy Alcantara and OF Chris Coghlan to the Rockies in exchange for OF Carlos Gonzalez.
Just for the heck of it, I explored the possibility and the Rockies GM said he'd agree to the deal. On the one hand, I like having pitching depth and both Wada and Wood have done decent jobs this year. However, we're 27-22 against RHP versus 10-2 versus LHP and I think we need another left-handed power bat besides Anthony Rizzo and Miguel Montero. The good: Carlos or "CarGo" as he's known to many, is a 2-time All Star, 3-time Gold Glove Award winner, very popular with fans and is signed through the 2017 season. He's got a .301 lifetime batting average and .909 OPS against RHP and a .303 lifetime batting average, .878 OPS in day games. The bad: Gonzalez is a much better hitter at Coors Field (.324, .384 OBP & 85 HRs lifetime) than on the road (.257, .314, 57 HRs lifetime). And, at Wrigley Field, in 14 games his numbers are .245, .286 OBP, .852 OPS with 5 HRs and 8 RBIs. What would you do? |

Sounds like, from those numbers, CarGo's REALLY benefiting from the high altitude. I'd be incredibly leery about trading for him, and I'd advise looking for another lefty bat. 27-22 isn't really terrible, so you probably don't even need to break the bank to get one, either; just picking up a mediocre lefty to bat 6th or 7th - or even just platooning one versus RHP - should help you out.

Stay away. CarGo is not very good away from Coors. I've traded for him before in recent OOTPs and he's just slightly above average when he's not playing 82 games in the Rockies.
Plus, he's always hurt. |

How'd the Rockies get an extra game?

Thanks, guys! Another possibility is Michael Saunders of the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto is now in "rebuilding" mode and Saunders is much cheaper than CarGo. Not sure what his numbers are compared to Gonzalez's, but he gives us another option.

CarGo's a Cub! I made the deal this morning. Read more about it on my "Madden" thread under "Dynasty Reports".
