In the top of the first, Williams hit a two-run double.

In the top of the sixth, Bertell scored from third on a throwing error by Ranew as Brock was stealing second. A couple of walks later and the bases were loaded with one out. Williams flied out to center and then Taussig threw Brock out a home as he had tagged up and tried to score.

In the top of the seventh, Taussig got the Colt .45s closer with an RBI single. Taussig would later score when Amalfitano grounded to short.

Bobby Shantz took the mound for the Colt .45s in the top of the eighth.

Barney Schultz took the mound for the Cubs in the bottom of the eighth. Aspromonte hit an RBI single to make it a one-run game.

In the bottom of the ninth, with the tying run at first, Spangler flew out to center to end the game.

The two teams combined for 23 hits in the contest.

And bases were still loaded with nobody out. Amaro grounded into the 5-4-3 but Demeter scored to make it 5-0. Bennett, the pitcher and ninth batter of the inning got an RBI single next.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Phillies loaded the bases with one out. Demeter grounded into the 6-4-3 to end the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on second and one out, Jim Golden took the mound for the Colt .45s and stranded the runner at third.

After six: Philadelphia 6 Houston 0.

In the top of the eighth, Mejias hit an RBI single as the Colt .45s avoided the shutout.

In the bottom of the eighth, Dave Giusti took the mound for the Colt .45s. Callison stroked an RBI single.

The Phillies got 11 hits in the win.

In the top of the second, Dalrymple put the Phillies on the board with an RBI single. Covington followed with his own run-scoring single. The Phillies went on to load the bases with two out. Amaro drew a walk on a full count pitch to bring in another run. Callison then grounded to second to retire the side.

After three: Philadelphia 3 Houston 0.

In the top of the fourth, a Gonzalez single combined with a throwing error by Mejias allowed Bennett to score from first. One walk later and Callison hit a three-run homer. With a runner on second and two out, Jim Golden took the mound for the Colt .45s.

In the bottom of the fifth, Mejias hit an RBI single to put the Colt .45s on the board. Larker then beat out the 4-6-3 to allow Spangler to score.

In the top of the sixth, Taussig threw Amaro out at home as he was trying to score from second on a Demeter single.

Dave Giusti took the mound for the Colt .45s in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the ninth, with a runner on first and one out, Jack Baldschun took the mound for the Phillies. The Colt .45s loaded the bases with one out. Mejias then grounded into the game-ending 5-4-3.

Houston Colt .45s LF Jim Pendleton announced that he would retire atthe end of the season.
