Contract year question
On what date does "next year" become "this year" as far as contracts go? As in when do I need to waive/DFA a league minimum player so that they convert to a minor league contract for next season?

I would do it before the end of the WS. Really I would do it before the sim after the WS that starts the offseason. Once Waive/DFA the player is off the 40 man. That should do it, you may want to experiment. Make a backup and sim forward, I am not 100%. If you do it before the playoffs you will definitely be good.

I do this before the start of the regular season. Otherwise as you mentioned that player will receive an automatic league minimum.

you can see it occur... first day of FA or after arb hearings, i forget which.
your accounting and salary reports update on that date. so, do it before then. as far as money concerns for that year, it'll be pro-rated and likely paid i full by offseason for that current (or last?) year. |
