1959 MLB Original Schedules

16 teams, 8 teams per league, 1 division per league

Games:
154
Length: 172 days
Interleague: No
Format: Balanced
A team plays 22 games against each of the 7 other opponents in the league

Year starts on: Thursday
Season opens: Thur. Apr. 9
Season closes: Sun. Sept. 27
All-Star Games: Tue. July 7; Mon. Aug. 3

Total scheduled doubleheaders: 88

Average home stand length: 8.4 games
Average of longest home stands: 15.8 games
Longest home stand: 20 games (BAL)

Average road trip length: 8.4 games
Average of longest road trips: 15.8 games
Longest road trip: 19 games (DET, PHI)

Average stretch of consecutive play: 5.5 days
Average of longest stretches of consecutive play: 17.2 days
Longest stretch of consecutive play: 27 days (KC1)

Series scheduled
1-game: 020
2-game: 149
3-game: 205
4-game: 071
5-game: 003
TOTAL:w448

NOTE: There were two All-Star Games played in 1959. It is theoretically possible to duplicate this in OOTP. This can be done by editing the schedule file, adding in both All-Star Games on the appropriate dates, and using the proper Team ID numbers for each All-Star team. In 1959, the NL was the home team for both games. The entry for the first game would be on July 7, which is day 188. The line would be (excluding the quotes) "188,17,18,1". The second game goes on Aug. 3, which is day 215, and the line would be "215,17,18,7". The only caveat with adding the All-Star Games into the schedule file is that it may cause problems in OOTP when those days come up. The normal recommendation is to delete any All-Star Game listed in a schedule file and instead add in the All-Star Game manually via the schedule editor in OOTP.

So, dual All-Star Games may or may not work. Feel free to test it out, and post your results.

1960 MLB Original Schedules

16 teams, 8 teams per league, 1 division per league

Games:
154
Length: 168 days (AL); 174 days (NL)
Interleague: No
Format: Balanced
A team plays 22 games against each of the 7 other opponents in the league

Year starts on: Saturday
Season opens: Tue. Apr. 12 (NL); Mon. Apr. 18 (AL)
Season closes: Sun. Oct. 2
All-Star Games: Mon. July 11; Wed. July 13

Total scheduled doubleheaders: 85

Average home stand length: 7.7 games
Average of longest home stands: 15.5 games
Longest home stand: 20 games (SFN)

Average road trip length: 7.7 games
Average of longest road trips: 15.9 games
Longest road trip: 21 games (SFN)

Average stretch of consecutive play: 6.1 days
Average of longest stretches of consecutive play: 20.8 days
Longest stretch of consecutive play: 33 days (SFN)

Series scheduled
1-game: 030
2-game: 144
3-game: 212
4-game: 067
5-game: 002
TOTAL:w455

NOTE: There were two All-Star Games played in 1960. As mentioned in the last post, it may be possible to duplicate that by placing the two All-Star Games into the schedule file. This year, the AL was the home team for both games. The entry for the first game would be on July 11, which is day 192. The line would be (without the quotes) "192,18,17,3". The second game goes on July 13, which is day 194, and the line would be "194,18,17,1". Again, be aware that adding the All-Star Games into the schedule file may cause problems in OOTP when those days come up. The normal recommendation is to delete any All-Star Game listed in a schedule file and instead add in the All-Star Game manually via the schedule editor in OOTP.

Also included for this year is a strike-shortened version of the schedules. A players' strike which began on Apr. 1st and ended on Apr. 13th caused a delay in the start of the 1972 season. The opening date for the season was changed to Sat. Apr. 15, and all games on dates prior to this were cancelled and were not made up. This means that the teams will play a varying number of games in the season, ranging from 153-156 games, with the average value being 155 games. A total of 86 games ended up being cancelled due to the strike.

EDIT:

The problem with the 1974 schedule file has been fixed. In the zip file is a slightly modified version of the original schedule, changed to reduce the number of games on Sunday, Aug. 4th, from 22 to 18, a number that OOTP is able to handle without issue.

The games changed were: CLE at ML4, BOS at NYA, TEX at CHA, and ATL at SFN. All of these matchups were doubleheaders in the original schedule; I've changed them to single games and added the games to the previous day, a Saturday, to create four doubleheaders.

For your convenience, I've also included the exact 1974 original schedule file as a separate text file download in case anyone would like to have a copy of that.

1974 MLB Original Schedules

24 teams, 12 teams per league, 2 divisions of 6 teams in each league

Games:
162
Length: 182 days
Interleague: No
Format: Divisional
A team plays 18 games against each of its 5 divisional opponents (18 x 5 = 90 games)
A team plays 12 games against each of the 6 clubs in the other division (12 x 6 = 72 games)

Year starts on: Tuesday
Season opens: Thur. Apr. 4
Season closes: Wed. Oct. 2
All-Star Game: Tue. July 23

Total scheduled doubleheaders: 80

Average home stand length: 7.3 games
Average of longest home stands: 12.3 games
Longest home stand: 14 games (CAL, NYN, ATL)

Average road trip length: 7.3 games
Average of longest road trips: 11.8 games
Longest road trip: 14 games (NYA, ATL)

Average stretch of consecutive play: 6.6 days
Average of longest stretches of consecutive play: 22.4 days
Longest stretch of consecutive play: 34 days (KCA)

Series scheduled
2-game: 119
3-game: 429
4-game: 101
5-game: 003
TOTAL:w652

NOTE: The zip file contains a slightly modified version of the 1974 schedule file, changed to reduce the number of games on one particular day down to a number that OOTP is able to handle without issue. The exact original 1974 schedule is included as the separate text file attachment, but this should not be used for OOTP due to the excess games issue.
