In a much closer/better fight than anticipated, Juan Manuel Marquez barely held on to his IBF JWW crown with a 15 Draw with Lamont Peterson.

The younger challenger jumped on the aging champ in the 1st round sending Juan down with a quick right cross for a count of 3.

Lamont's speed & youth appeared to give Juan problems until a hard body shot sent Lamont to the canvas in the 9th for an 8 count. Marquez followed that up with an uppercut for a 6 count & a 10-7 round across the board.

Lamont out punched Marquez 324 to 280 (both landing @ a 25% clip) but the judges had the final tally: 142-142, 142-141 Marquez, 142-141 Peterson.

Mikkel Kessler defended his WBA SMW belt for the 1st time out of the friendly confines of Denmark by taking his show on the road to France.

Different country, same result as Kessler took apart & dominated Jean Paul Mendy with a 10th round TKO. Kessler dropped the Frenchman 4 times over 10 rounds & ups his record to 17-1-2 (14 KO's).

zyber, do you mean if I was using strats?

Yes to that, still the older version of the game & WBA rules in Mikkel's defense.

Costa Rica's Bryan Vazquez rallied to made the 1st defense of his WBC JLW title against former WBO champ - Yaundale Evans.

Evans controlled the fight with his speed & movement to win the 1st 3 rounds but a hard uppercut in the 4th sent the American to the canvas for a count of 8. Evans resumed his superior boxing until the 11th when Bryan pushed the action sensing the fight slipping from his grasp. A hard barrage ended matters @ 0:44 of the 11th.

At the time of the stoppage, Bryan was behind by 3 points on 2 of the 3 cards & trailed in PL 148 to 225 for Evans.

Columbia's old warhorse, JC Candelo, finally had his day by lifting the WBA JMW title from Miguel Cotto with a dramatic 14th round cut TKO.

In a give & take grueling affair, JC would not be denied & refused to go down under Cotto's, at times, brutal assaults. At the time of the stoppage, JC had a slight edge in PL: 274-270. Cotto was ahead on 2 of the 3 cards: 126-123, 125-123, 124-124.

With the win, JC improves to 17-3-1 & Cotto suffered his 1st loss @ 154 & is now 10-1.

Travis Simms impressively defended his IBO JMW belt for the 6th time with a brutal, 1 punch right hook KO of the game Gabriel Rosado.

A combo in the 8th sent Gabe to the deck for an 8 count but Simms ended matters with 1 punch a round later.

Simms was up 78-73 on all 3 cards & improves to 18-2-2. Rosado is now 5-1.

In his last 7 fights, Simms has won 5 with 2 technical draws. The combined records of those 7 fighters is 70-5-1.

In what may have been his last fight @ 135, Adrien Broner put on a clinic in his 1st defense of his IBO title with a dominating 14th round TKO over the game but over matched, Art Hovannisyan.

Art hit the deck 3 times by the end, had both eyes swelling (left - red, right - orange) as Broner basically beat up the challenger landing 45% of his punches to Art's 11% - 470 to 137 punches landed.

Broner was up 130-116, 129-117 & 127-120 on the cards.

Michael Nunn came out of retirement to take the WBC SMW belt from Karloy Balzsay in a very good fight.

A spirited exchange in the 4th round turned out to be the only knockdown as a Nunn uppercut dropped the champ for a 4 count.

In the end, Nunn came away was a UD 143-141 & 144-141 twice and ups his record to 9-2 (3 KO's). Nunn won the PL battle 356 to 305.

Karoly drops to 15-2-1 & was making his 7th defense.

In a surprisingly good fight, Rakhim Chakhkiev came to France & took the IBO CW belt from Taoufik Belbouli via a 15UD - 145-139, 144-140, 145-140.

Rakhim's early aggression seemed to surprise the French champion & the Russian sent Taoufik to the canvas once early in the fight. From there on, Rakhim was content to outbox the defending champ & earned the UD.

The now former champ drops to 10-1 & Rakhim moves to 5-0 with 4 KO's.

WBC/IBO MW unification

WBC champ, Milton McCrory agreed to come to Spain to take on newly crowned IBO MW champ - Roberto Santos.

Santos was the aggressor from the outset, hitting Milt with the bigger shots. Milt was content to box from the outside but in the 7th, a quick combo from the WBC champ sent Santos down for a 2 count.

From that point, Milt appeared to take control of the fight as the IBO champ was more wary of Milt's power.

A big left hook in the 11th from Santos however ended matters & made Roberto a unified champ @ 160.

Santos was up 96-94 on all 3 cards but Milt held a 239 to 211 lead in PL.

Milt is still the WBC super welter champ & will drop down to 154 for a Fall defense of that belt.

In a fight that turned into a boring clinch fest for most of the middle rounds, Sechew Powell made his 1st defense of his WBO JMW title with a 15 UD over Cedric Vitu.

Powell (now 20-2, 10 KO's) came to France for his 1st defense after taking the title from Pacquaio with a SD earlier this year. Powell out punched the Frenchman 357 to 150 & landed 45% of his punches to Vitu's paltry 17%.

In Germany, Felix Sturm upped his record to 23-2 (5 KO's) with another 10 UD win. Sturm hopes to get another title shot soon, his only 2 loses coming in previous title shots - lost to Felix Trinidad via a 15 MD & a 15th round TKO cut loss to Cory Spinks - a fight Spinks would have won by decision anyway.

In what turned out to be a much closer fight than it appeared, Mike Arnaoutis held onto & defended his WBA JWW belt for the 5th time with a SD over the game Mike Dallas Jr.: 143-142 twice & 141-144.

Mike out punched Dallas 428 to 355. Dallas dropped down to 140 after his failed bid earlier this year vs. IBO WW champ, Ivan Kirpa. Dallas also lost that fight by decision.

Arnaoutis is now 18-2-1 (9 KO's) - his 2 losses both by SD to Khan & Holt.

Juan Manual Marquez might be starting to show his age as he squeaked by with his 2nd defense of his IBF JWW belt with a 15SD (143-142, 143-141, 141-143) over Souleymane M'baye in France.

Juan held onto the belt in his 1st defense in May with a Draw with Lamont Peterson after taking the title earlier this year with a15UD over Zab Judah.

An uppercut in the 6th sent Juan to the canvas for the only KD in the fight. Juan out punched & out worked the French challenger 388 to 315 in PL & was much more accurate @ 43% to only 25% for M'baye.

Juan is now 5-0-1 (2 KO's) @ 140 & M'baye falls to 9-5.

Paris - K-9 Bundrage's impressive rampage through the 154 lb division continued in France with a 3rd round TKO of IBF champ, Salim Larbi.

A lot of pre fight talk lead up to quite a fight for as long as it lasted, K-9 landing 54% of his punches to Larbi's 45%.

Legendary trainer Emmanuel Steward had his 3rd fighter capture a belt @ JMW with K-9's win. Steward also trains current WBC champ, Milton McCrory & helped guide Miguel Cotto to the WBA strap before JC Canelo took the belt earlier this year.

K-9 improves to 12-0, 11 KO's.

Mikkel Kessler upped his record to 18-1-2 with an 11th round cut TKO of the game Fulgencio Obelmeijus.

Mikkel controlled the bout throughout out punching Fully Obel 377 to 169. Mikkel landed @ a 56% clip to Obel's 25%. He was also up on the cards: 98-92, 97-93, 98-93.

It was Mikkel's 13 title defense of his WBA SMW belt.

Battle of champs

Germany - Current WBO MW champ, Khoren Gevor, moved 8 pounds north to challenge WBO SMW champ - Herol Graham in Gevor's adopted country.

Gevor barely held onto his MW belt against Fernando Guerrero in his last defense but looked like a new man @ 168 taking the fight to the Brit champ. It seemed like a fight where Gevor's youth (by 20 years) was the difference as he won 145-142 on all 3 cards. Watching the fight it appeared like Gevor won by more than that. Gevor also won the PL battle, 392 to 366.

It was Gevor's 1st fight @ 168 & Herol drops back to 11-3-1 (8 KO's) @ SMW.
