Nice. Pretty much all the diamond historical cards are fantastic.

A 17-10 June plus a win on the 1st of July sees the Healy Hoggs at 39-43. Offense is mid-pack, but pitching is still bad, though we've allowed the least walks in our conference, and struck out the 4th-most hitters. Pity about all the hits in between. Amazingly, 39-43 is good enough for second in our division, behind the Tallahassee Bears, who are at 44-39.

Added Dennis Martinez to the rotation near the end of the month, and shifted Mike Witt to the bullpen. Martinez won't strike out as many as Witt but he'll keep the ball in the park, whereas Witt was allowing 1.2 homers every 9 innings. Thought about moving Kent Mercker to the pen instead, as he's surrendering dingers at a 1.4 per 9 rate but I've got a soft spot for him, and he's about the only pitcher earning me any PP this season, thanks to a couple of 10-strikeout games.

Came back from the holidays with no OOTP access to find I'd made the playoffs last season (no idea how I did, though - all I know is I didn't make the World Series thanks to the stickied "Champions" thread). That meant a promotion to finally put me in Gold, where I'm a touch above .500. Quite happy with that.

Then packed a 100 Mike Trout in a standard pack with the PP that had built up in my absence. He may be a cookie-cutter player, but he's also a forever player (who doesn't love Mike Trout?!?!). I'm getting somewhat close to a team of "favorites" and am competitive in Gold - that'd easily be enough for me in PT as a free player.

People are adding to their clubs and I haven't and I am paying for it. By not paying for it.

Came home from the holidays and was pleasantly surprised to see my team leading my division by 8 games. I should totally ignore my team more often!

Turned it back around in July so far, 10-3. Earned enough this year to buy a standard pack, and got Lindor, who is now my highest ranked player. 9 out of the wild card, so I think my realistic goal now is to finish above .500, don't want to drop back down to Gold.

Minutemen at least have a winning record at the break.

I have a 96 overall rated Cory Kluber who's supposed to be my ace. As of July 19th he is 5-12 with a 6.14 ERA. By far the worst ERA on my team, the rest are in the 3's and 4's. Hmmm...

Yeah, pitching seems like a giant crap shoot. I keep upgrading my rotation and it does not get any better.

I just picked up my very first Diamond Card for my Cardinals team, a 2005 Chris Carpenter. Fingers crossed that he does better than Wacha who he replaced. .

So you're the one! I bid all I had (a little over 7k) to get that card, but I guess you had more to bid with. Oh well, eventually I'll have enough to win a bid for a better pitcher. I hope he does well for you.

My Dennis Martinez is 1-12 6.94 ERA and 1.80 WHIP with a solid defense behind him so I was hoping to bench him, but he'll have to keep pitching for now.

If it's any consolation he is 0-2 with 5.14 ERA after 2 starts. And he pretty much cost me everything I had.

It does not matter who I put into a lineup mid season they always start off awful.

And I am beginning to think I am doing something wrong with my pitching. I pick up guys with good ratings (not necessarily overall) and they all seem to under perform while lesser pitchers do better.

I said it earlier, pitching is such a crap shoot. The fluctuations are so extreme

I don't recall having such bad luck with adding new pitchers. The only one I can remember that was awful from the start was Carlos Martinez.

If I remember correctly, Carpenter's ratings are similar (but a little better) than Len Barker who's doing well for me (at diamond level) so hopefully you'll have good luck with him.
