Why I love OOTP
I ran a sim from 1901 with random debuts, no recalc, only OOTP development engine.
In 1992, I checked the leaderboards as I had throughout and found a new name leading most offensive categories: Ben Paschal. Initially, I looked at his real life stats and was disappointed that a guy with under 1000 career at bats dominated my sim with almost 4000 career hits. The rest of the leaderboard are mostly real Hall of Famers or equivalent: Ty Cobb, Jesse Burkett, Albert Pujols, Shoeless Joe Jackson. I knew it was a risk without recalc or anything. But, then I looked into it. Paschal played outfield for the Yankees when they had a stacked team with Combs, Ruth and Meusel and by all reports would have starred for any other American League team and became the first star pinch hitter. Because he ended up being the first draft pick in Montreal Expos history in my sim, he ended up getting every opportunity to play and develop and become MLB's all-time hit leader. I never would have known about Paschal otherwise. |
