WBA JMW int belt

Austin Trout rallied late to stop the rugged Pipino Cuevas in the 11th at 1:50 of the round when the tough Mexican hit the deck for the 3rd time in that round - another left cross ending the fight.

Earlier in the fight a hard left hook from Pipino dropped Trout. Cuevas boxed surprisingly well & had opened up a lead on 2 of the 3 cards: 96-93 & 95-94. Only one judge had Trout up through 10 - 95 to 94.

Trout was up on PL: 288 (40%) to 168 (20%) & improves to 21-1.

Austin hopes the win forces the WBA's regular champ @ 154 (Luis Collazo) to face him in 2020.

WBA SMW title

For some reason Andre Dirrell came in soft while making his 2nd title defense in Germany.

He agreed to fight Felix Sturm there, maybe thinking the wily vet was past his prime. Turned out Sturm has plenty left as he outboxed Andre on his way to a 15 UD - 146-142, 145-141 & 148-138.

Felix won the PL battle as well: 385 (36%) to 212 (14%).

After a lengthy run at 160, Sturm is now 7-0 (1 KO) @ 168 & Andre's 25-3 (15 KO's).

Indongo does it again!

Julius Indongo certainly has a flair for late fight dramatics & he did it once again today with a 13th round KO - 1:48 a vicious hook to put down and out a tough challenge from the sturdy Russian - Maxim Dadashev.

Maxim had dropped Julius in the 10th with Julius returning the favor in the 11th.

Julius was up on the cards 114-112, 115-111 & 115-113 & PL as well: 331 (25%) to 195 (21%). This was his 3rd title defense.

This late stoppage adds another chapter to his story having won the WBC JWW belt with a 14th round TKO of Humberto Soto & then later fighting for the vacant belt, Julius knocked out Viktor Postol in the 15th to regain the title once again!

WBO JMW title

Even with a 20 year advantage in age, Russia's Radzhab Butaev was unable to wrest the crown from the aging but still dangerous - K-9 Bundrage.

In a fight where both men pressed forward, K-9 was able to overpower the much younger Russian with a right cross @ 1:01 of the 10th and put Butaev down for good. K-9 had 2 other KD's & was dropped once himself in this entertaining fight.

K-9 was up on the cards: 86-83 & 87-82 twice - also PL 248 (30%) to 186 (27%).

It was K-9's 3rd title defense & is now 22-2 (18 KO's).

Yes that was his nickname - I think he got it after he hit another boxer so hard he said he saw 6 heads.

He was a beast in my universe until Luis Collazo gave him both a boxing lesson and beating - twice as I recall.

Shocker in Thailand!

Having won the vacant WBO WW belt in July, Keith Thurman wanted to end the year with a tuneup defense before facing bigger names next year.

So he agreed to come to Thailand to face Tewa Kiram but Keith made the mistake of thinking he could just walk down Tewa - big mistake!

A jab & vicious hook combo as Keith tried to press the action ended the fight @ 2:57 of only the 2nd round.

Keith is now 15-1 with 14 KO's.

No surprise in Paris!

Due to the fact few are willing to fight him in the US, IBO WW champ Terrance Crawford came to fight the always durable Frederic Klose.

Klose has never been a champ but he always gave previous champs a run for their money, Klose usually losing tight decisions. Until tonight, in probably his most impressive & complete performance at 147, TC took Klose apart.

A vicious hook dropped Klose in the 3rd & the fight was finally stopped in the 9th (2:22) when the ref stepped in due to the damage to Frederic's left eye - purple.

TC landed 332 shots (52%) to 101 (18%).

Scorecards: 80-70 & 79-71 twice.

TC now 5-0 @ WW - all KO's.

Klose drops to 6-6-1 (1 KO) but suffers the worst beating of his career.

WBC Super Welter title

Closing out 2019, Antonio Margarito agreed to make his 3rd title defense in the Dominican Republic vs. the young & strong but untested - Carlos Adames.

Even though Antonio is much older, this was yet another easy defense for the Mexican champion as he landed 270 shots (58%) to 137 (33%) & dropped Adames twice before 1 final uppercut @ 2:03 of the 7th.

Long time champ Julian Williams agreed to make his 9th defense in Montreal vs. the young but raw - Steven Butler.

JRock was on cruise control until the 7th when a huge hook from the powerful Canadian sent the champ to the canvas for a count of 9!

JRock recovered and was cautious the rest of the fight finally dropping Butler with a hook of his own for a 3 count in the 15th.

In the end, the champ won on the cards: 146-137, 147-136 & 145-138 & also by a wide margin in PL: 484 (54%) to 156 (12%).

JRock is now 14-0-1 with 8 KO's.

British Super Welter Belt

After taking off 2019, Kell Brook made his return in a domestic clash vs. Sam Webb.

Despite the layoff, Kell looked as sharp as ever dropping Webb twice with uppercuts during the fight until a huge left hood from Brook ended matters at 2:35 of the 7th!

Kell is now 5-0 with 2 KO's @ 154 after an unbeaten run at 147.

On the surface, that might not be all that impressive a win but in his previous fight, Sam fought IBO champ - Jermell Charlo making his 1st title defense. The fight was stopped in the 14th due to a cut over Sam's right eye.

At that point Sam was up 350 (42%) to 298 (23%) on Charlo and the cards were 127-123 Webb, 126-124 Charlo & 125-125.

IBF & WBO SMW titles

Rather than face mandatory challenger, Caleb Plant, Cory Spinks gave up his IBF belt so Plant fought fellow unbeaten - Julius "The Chef" Jackson from the Virgin Islands in Memphis for the title.

In a fight that lacked much/any drama, Sweet Hands landed 514 punches (56%) to JJ's 164 (13%) to easily win the belt by UD (147-138 & 147-137 twice),

Meanwhile in Germany, Cory Spinks agreed to fight Vincent Feigenbutz for a big $ payday to defend his WBO strap.

In another fight that lacked much drama, Vince came away with a MD: 144-143, 145-143 & 143-143.

VF won the PL battle as well: 343 (44%) to 314 (19%).

WBO CW belt

Usyk decided to move to HW so he vacated his title @ CW.

So Andrew Tabiti agreed to come to Russia to face Maxim Vlasov for the vacant belt.

Tabiti dropped Maxim in the 8th & then again in the 10th with a combo but this time kept punching until the ref stepped in at 2:51 of the round.

PL: 247 (29%) to 143 (26%) for AT.

AT also up on the cards: 87-83, 88-83 & 88-82.

Daniel Jacobs returned to the ring with a 4th round TKO of a journeyman.

The move to 168 made sense for Jacobs due to the fact in his last outing at 160, Gilberto Ramirez practically handed Danny his head in an 11 round beating before the Mexican knocked him out in the 11th - taking Danny's WBC MW crown in the process.

Recap from July

WBC MW title

Making his 1st defense, Danny Jacobs drew the unbeaten Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez. Going in, it looked like a pretty even fight on paper but that's not how things played out in the ring. GRS appeared to be too strong & good for Danny just basically out punching him round after round until the 11th when a tiring Jacobs was caught with a vicious combo & knocked out 0:47 seconds into the round.

GRS is now 13-0, all KO's & Danny's 26-3-1 (19 KO's), it's the 2nd time he lost by KO to a big punching lefty - Jesus Gonzalez being his 1st KO loss.

GRS lead PL 262 to 201 & 46% to 23% in accuracy.

All 3 judges had the fight for GRS - 99-90, 98-91 & 96-93.

IBF CW title

In a jam packed stadium in Jamaica, fight fans came out in droves to see a live boxing match once again after being cooped up for weeks & they witnessed a true corker!

Old warhorse, Richard Hall, was making the 7th defense of his title against the young pup - 37 year old Beibut Shumenov.

In the 1st, Beibut jumped on Hall & dropped the champ with a combo. Hall recovered and Richard appeared to hurt BS on numerous occasions over the next few rounds. Beibut did drop Hall 4 times over 10 rounds & then in the 10th, one final combo ended the fight as the round came to a close.

Hall lead on all 3 cards: 86-83 & 85-84 twice. Beibut held a slight PL edge: 225 (26%) to 210 (37%).

With the win, Beibut improves to 4-0, all KO's @ CW & Hall suffers his first loss @ the weight, now 11-1, 6 KO's.

2 title fights in Europe

Having tested the 175 waters earlier this year (8 TKO), Canelo came to Spain to face the WBA champ - Gabriel Campillo, making his 6th title defense.

In a bout that lacked much action, the Mexican superstar was able to take the belt with a 15 MD (143-143 & 145-141 twice).

Canelo's fewer but harder shots carrying the day with the judges: 263 (27%) to 336 (20%).

Canelo now opened the door to numerous big fight possibilities in Sept, meanwhile Gabe drops to 23-2 (6 KO's) - one of the better 6 rated fighters in the TB game.

And in France, newly crowned WBO SMW champ, Vincent Feigenbutz, agreed to face IBO champ, Hassan N'Dam on his adopted home soil for a title unification.

In a fight that looked to be a tossup on paper, Hassan dominated Vince, landing 54% of his punches (594) to 180 (13%) for Vince.

Quite a turnaround since Vince landed 44% of his punches against Cory Spinks when he won the WBO belt just mere months ago.

The scorecards were a blowout - 148-137 and 147-138 twice.

Afterwards Hassan announced for his next fight in the summer he may drop down to 160 again for a title shot @ MW.

The aging champ resurrected his career at 168 moving to 4-0 (0 KO's) & now 2 belts @ SMW.

Vince falls to 6-2.

Indongo does it again!

Making the 5th defense of his WBC JWW belt, Julius Indongo made yet another late fight stoppage as he knocked out rugged challenger, Kiryl Relikh, with a combo to end the fight @ 2:48 of the 15th.

It was a fight Indongo controlled, well ahead on the cards: 136-128 & 137-127 twice. JI also lead in PL: 480 (37%) to 285 (18%).

JI had dropped KR 4 times prior during the fight but the 5th was for the KO.

Julius is now 10-1 with 6 KO's, his 1 loss was due to a cut.

KR is now 6-1, 5 KO's

It also marks the 4th time Julius has stopped an opponent in or past the 13th round (13th - once, 14th - once & 15th - twice) to make him the most dangerous late round fighter in the game today!

WBO JWW title

On paper the fight appeared to be the classic - boxer vs. puncher.

John Molina having just won this title over Lamont Peterson (after John was easily out boxed last year to lose the WBA strap) agreed to face what he thought was the light punching - Yves Ulysse, in Canada.

Going in, most boxing insiders thought it could be a boring fight & if John won it would be by KO & if Yves won, it would be by decision.

Boy were they wrong!

Yves apparently had no intention to box & instead decided to stand his ground & match John punch for punch! In the 4th round, John was dropped twice & almost stopped by 2 solid hooks.

They kept up their torrid pace until the 9th when a rib shot dropped Yves. At that point it appeared maybe the tide had turned & John's punching power would now take over.

Nope!

In the 10th Yves delivered a vicious barrage that ended the fight at 1:55 of the round.

Yves was up on the PL: 223 (28%) to 182 (19%) & the cards reflected just what a tight fight it was: 84-84 & 85-84 twice for Yves.

Boxing from Paris!

Current WBO SMW champ, Hassan N'Dam agreed to drop down to 160 again to face the new WBC champ - Gilberto R. Sanchez.

N'Dam hoped by dropping down, he'd be the bigger & stronger man against the fearsome Mexican puncher: 13-0 @ 160, all KO's.

N'Dam's size & boxing experience served him well as he lasted 15 rounds to lose via UD but was dropped a total of 5 times.

The cards read 145-136, 146-134 & 142-139 (not sure what fight that judge was watching?)

N'Dam hoped to win the title & dedicate the fight to the recently deceased: Olivia Mary de Havilland - who died yesterday in Paris at the age of 104.

N'Dam is now 22-6 (18 KO's) @ 160.
