Bringing Sand to the Beach
Bringing Sand to the Beach: The Sandy Rogers Career
Author's Note: I grew up loving sports gaming the "sim" way. Playing for realism, getting the results that made sense. From Madden to NBA 2K, MVP Baseball, NCAA Football, I couldn't get enough. As I got older, I gained more of an appreciation for the front office side of things, and I soon stopped playing the games myself and would watch CPUvCPU or just simulate. I'd focus more on my ability to build teams and dynasties than my actual stick skills. This turned me towards the PC-based text-sim genre of games, Front Office Football, the Draft Day Sports games, and above all, the great OOTP series. I still have a love for the console games, especially MLB the Show. RTTS is an awesome mode, but I want to try something more detached. So I'll be using the latest release of OOTP to follow the career of a created prospect. I'll have no control over the player (aside from a slight boost to potential ratings so he doesn't flame out in Single-A). To add some diversity, the Nippon, Cuban, Chinese, Mexican, Korean, and North American independent leagues will be available pathways for our player to eventually reach the Majors. And after a career that could either last a couple of decades or maybe just a couple of seasons, we'll transfer into the player's next career; potentially as a coach, a scout, or general manager. Without further ado, we begin the baseball career of Alexander "Sandy" Rogers, a young pitching prospect from Colorado. |

Cherry Creek Powers Through Grandview in State Quarterfinals Ryan Casey | May 31, 2019 4:30 PM (Jack Eberhard/JacksActionShots) Cherry Creek's three-run seventh inning put the nail in the coffin for Grandview as they advance into the state semifinals. Grandview's top pitcher, Alexander Rogers, suffered a shoulder injury at the top of the fourth after only giving up one run in the second. Josh Hojnowski and Harry Boushele replaced Rogers through the end of the match. Roger's, unfortunately, ends his stellar season. In nine games started Rogers pitched a 1.87 ERA, picking up an 8-1 record with 3 saves off the bench. Creek's senior infielder Alec Adolph starred as he batted in 3 runs including a home run in the sixth. The Bruins (22-7) will now prepare for their match against Mountain Vista. The Golden Eagles go into the match with a 26-3 record. In their last match, Mountain Vista edged Regis Jesuit 5-0. |

Football Still an Option for Grandview's Rogers Ryan Casey | July 16, 2019 6:15 PM (Andy Cross /GettyImages) Cherry Creek's first baseman Jack Moss and Grandview's Sandy Rogers are both considered to be the best Colorado prospects since Chase Headley and Roy Halladay. The former has announced his commitment to Arizona State while the latter has his with the Duke Blue Devils. With Moss and Rogers both being top 100 prospects in the country, you would think it's a shoo-in for them to sell out on their baseball careers. Well, not exactly the case for Mr. Rogers. Known colloquially to his friends and family as "Sandy," Alexander Rogers is not only a top baseball recruit but also has been a strong football player as Grandview's starting quarterback. After 2018's summer-long battle with highly-touted dual-threat sophomore QB Jacob Burr, Rogers started all ten regular-season games for the Wolves including their playoff loss to Valor Christian. In ten contests, Rogers posted 27 total touchdowns (20 passing, 7 rushing), 2089 yards through the air, 457 yards rushing, and only seven interceptions. His junior year turned the heads of several colleges. 247Sports reports that CU Boulder still wants to pull him away from Duke and have him play both baseball and football, while Nebraska and Utah State have taken a run at him. "I just want to focus on this upcoming season," Rogers replied to our questions after a summer scrimmage against Legend High School. "Grandview Football is my main priority right now." |

Eaglecrest Stuns Rival Grandview in OT 28-21 Ryan Casey | November 16, 2019 9:15 AM (Courrtney Oaks/SentinelColorado) Grandview and Eaglecrest squared off for the second consecutive year in the playoffs, with the Raptors coming out on top in OT 28-21. The game stood deadlocked until the 4th quarter at seven points each until a barrage of 35 points combined came down in the fourth quarter and overtime. Grandview's starting quarterback Sandy Rogers jumpstarted head coach John Schultz's offense with two touchdown passes at the top of the fourth to receiver Jordan Smith. Shawn Marsh, the third head coach at Eaglecrest in as many years, retaliated with two touchdowns from his senior son Max Marsh to senior receiver Jalen Stewart. Rogers' interception at the end of regulation ensured overtime. Eaglecrest scored on their first possession of overtime with a third-down strike to Stewart. Grandview, hindered by back-to-back holding penalties, saw their state championship dreams crash as the fourth-down pass intended for Noah Schmidt was broken up, advancing Eaglecrest to next round to battle with #2 seeded Ralston Valley. Stats: GHS Alexander "Sandy" Rogers: 17/30 (56%), 237 yards, 2 touchdowns, 2 interceptions EHS Max Marsh: 14/24 (62%), 210 yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 interception GHS Moosah Alsaffar: 9 carries, 75 yards, 8.1 avg EHS Max Marsh: 10 carries, 73 yards, 7.3 avg GHS Jordan Smith: 3 receptions, 76 yards, 25.3 avg, 2 touchdowns EHS Ty Robinson: 5 receptions, 158 yards, 31.6 avg, 1 touchdown |

Grandview Wins Season Opener Against Overland 4-1 CHSAA Staff | March 12, 2020 8:30 PM (Raleigh Stokes/DenverPost) Opening day festivities have begun throughout the state as the 5A level kicked off the spring sports season. Fans of the Grandview High School Wolves were eager to watch the state's best prospect Sandy Rogers square off against Overland four-year varsity pitcher Tyler Bachusz. In the end, the Wolves won the game, 4-1, with Rogers earning player of the game honors. The save went to Josh DePalma, his first this season. Grandview High School took a 3-1 lead on Felipe Rodriguez's 1st double of the season. The 2-run double, which Rodriguez hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Trailblazers' pitcher Oscar Almaraz visibly frustrated. "Everything felt in sync," said head coach Scott Henry. "We're off to the start we all expected and we can't wait to keep on going." The Wolves will take on Rock Canyon tomorrow for their second match-up of the season. Top Stats: GHS P S. I'm enjoying this so far! I am a big fan of single player stories, and you're off to a great start. Your images make it easy to get immersed in Sandy's story.
Good luck with your dynasty. I'll be following.

Grandview's Rodriguez Pushes Team to 8-2 Victory CHSAA Staff | March 21, 2020 8:30 PM (Raleigh Stokes/DenverPost) The Grandview High School Wolves handed Grand Junction's Central High School a loss at Canyon View Park, final total 8-2. Major production was provided by Felipe Rodriguez for Grandview High School. In addition to his one single and two home runs, he scored three runs and drove in three. He also added two walks. Picking up the save was Bobby Sixt, his first. Grandview High School now has a record of 5-1 with the win from pitcher Sandy Rogers. A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. At the top of the third, with Grandview High School trailing 2-1, Wyatt Anderson was at the plate when Grandview High School scored twice on an error. The miscue enabled the Wolves to go in front, 3-2. Grandview moves to 5-1 on the season and plays Denver East (2-4) next. Top Stats: GHS P S.
