Broadly speaking, the Topps images originated at one time or another at the Topps Vault, which has an eBay store. Others on this board will have better information I on the indexing of images released over the course of the years.

Lewis and Twitchell from the 79 Ms are images many of us are looking for - whomever eventually finds them will be a hero.

Welcome to the site!

Incidentally - has anyone else experienced recent issues when searching for stores on eBay? I routinely would search for the TV, Kyles Sportscards and others, and now my searches come up empty, even though the stores are still there.

Tommy Madden 1906

Tommy Madden in a 1911 Red Sox uniform when he was with the Red Sox in training camp in California. Didn't make the team. From the March 1911 San Francisco Examiner.

Joe Goddard joined the Padres at the end of July, 1972, and the second-year pro spent the rest of the season as the team's third catcher, getting into just a dozen games. He was in camp with the Padres in 1973 and lingered in the minors until the start of the '76 season but never again appeared in the majors.

And none of the typical suspects photographed him. I didn't find him in my perusal of the Topps files a decade and more ago, and Brace didn't get him. Yet who turns up in today's Topps upload but an unidentified righty batter, who is shown in one image with what looks like the number 7 on the bottom of his bat, and in another wearing what appears to be a single-digit uniform. The Padres were only photographed in their all-mustard uniforms by Topps in spring training 1973, and who wore number 7 for the Pads in that camp?

Joe Goddard!

Compare him to the fuzzy little thumbnail black and white that turns up in a Goodard google image search and I think you'll agree it seems to be him (I believe there's another shot of him in a minor league team photo).

The good news is, if it's somehow not Goddard it's probably somebody even more obscure!

BTW numbers 197-200 look familiar from my years being slowly cooked by the sun of spring training with the Angels in Palm Springs but I'm just not seeing any clues.

Today's Topps uploads (KF): 167-168 Skip Jutze; 169-170 Ron Karkovice; 171-172 Steve Karsay; 173-176 Eddie Kasko; 177-178 Curt Kaufman; 179-180 George Kazmarek (Mets system, OF); 181-184 Steve Kealey; 185-186 Johnny Keane; 187-190 Ed Kranepool; 191-192 Jim Davenport; 193-194 Ray Jablonski; 195-196 Joe Goddard: 197-198 Chuck Gibbon (Angels System P); 199-200 Frank Panick (Angels System P); 201-202 Tom Seaver; 203-204 Jeoff Long; 205-206 Bill Spanswick.
Hello friends. This is my very first post as a member of this message board. Joe Goddard is my cousin, and every so often I Google his name to see what I can find. My ultimate goal would be to find his baseball card, if it ever existed, so I browse a little. These photos popped up in my search today, and one was used in what appears to be a card, but I'm afraid it's most likely just a mock-up a a card. I could take more time to research this further, but I'm asking for your assistance. Joe did wear #7, and I've seen photos of him in uniform at his parent's house. One in particular that I recall is of Joe, his dad, and Don Zimmer. With all of that said, can you educate me a little? I see these photos have a Topps watermark across them. Are they stock photos that were taken just in case a card was produced? Can the photos be purchased? I thank anyone that enlightens me with a response.

Joe was not the head coach at Marshall. He was the head coach at Independence High School, a consolidated high school that included the high school he attended. He was the head coach at IHS from 1976-2012, but was inducted into the Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015.

I'm new to this site too. I'm searching for a relative and found a couple of posts on here about him. So if I understand the vault correctly, you're purchasing the original color negatives? Once they're sold, that's it? Someone else owns the image?

Others on this board know far more than I about the intricacies of ownership - but yes, you can purchase the images from the TV store, but I don't believe it conveys "ownership".

Not sure where I picked up this photo; probably at a sports card show a long time ago. Would guess that it's a Padres team issue. In it's original form, it was an 8 x 10.

According to Beckett's Alphabetical Checklist, Joe Goddard did not have a baseball card -- either major league or minor league.

MODERATOR NOTE: As shown later in this thread, the player depicted in this post is actually Ernie Vick, pictured with the Cardinals, rather than Sammy Vick.

Although hardly a usable size, both O'Rourke and Smith are pictured in this Red Sox team photo from opening day 1922.

EDITED TO ADD: Del Pratt is also shown.
