When "Captain America" enters Citi Field!
The visiting team has no choice but to yield!
He was strong and great and knew what to do!
Hitting Home Runs in the Orange and Blue!
When "Captain America" enters Citi Field!

4 and 1 equals five!
Every year, we must show the respect due this pitcher.
Greatest pitcher in Mets history!
Top 5 pitcher in baseball history!
If Sandy Koufax is my Opening Day starter, this guy pitches on Day 2!
3xCy Youngs, 12xAll-Stars, 1969 WS Champ, RotY and 3xERA Titles!
311 Wins, 2.86 lifetime ERA, 3640 Ks!
Led the NL in strikeouts five years!
Led the NL in wins three years!
Posted 1.76 ERA in 1971!
Maybe the greatest wind-up in baseball history?
Now he has been diagnosed with dementia!
Horrible!
EVERY baseball fan should know his name!
But I am just going to call him, "TERRIFIC"!

I think the Reds had a useful player who wore the number 5 once...

What made Johnny Bench such an effective catcher? Uncommonly large hands. When he caught a baseball, it stayed caught...

But he's not my favorite player who wore No. 5 - that honor goes to a Tiger (who also wore No. 7 in his first year in the bigs) and played minor league ball in my hometown. Henry "Hammerin' Hank" Greenberg:

And yes, 4+1 equals 5...

Well it is called Countdown to Release, not Countdown to Opening Day. So the count goes on!

A Cincinnati Red who was also born in my hometown? Yes, please!

One of the heroes of the 1986 World Series when he led off Game 3 with a HR off of "Oil Can" Boyd!
Led the NL in hits in 1990 and 1993 with the PHI Phillies!
He earned his nickname, "Nails" with no doubt in my mind!
Lifetime .285 AVG., 3xAll-Star and one Silver Slugger to his credit with PHI!
When he led off an inning for the Mets, Wally Backman usually got him to 2nd!

Come on you have to have Lenny in the red and white. The 3 all stars and slugger were all Phillies years lol

Yes, I did mention that!
But I am Mets fan, so that is his pic.
But in the interests of fair play and no hard feelings...
Here you go!

Lenny Dykstra

P.S. STILL looks better in a Mets jersey!

P.P.S. Won his only title wearing Blue and Orange if I am not mistaken.
Oh yeah...that's right...I'M NOT!

2xAll-Star, 1969 WS Champ and a Gold Glove!
Perhaps a below average player, but he was always there when the Mets needed him!
The fans liked him pretty well also!

Didn't play in many ballgames since he was a backup catcher.
But he had a .283 AVG in his 5 years with the Mets, including going .307 in 1990!
Ill take that any day for a bench player!

I can't believed I whiffed on Harold Baines, especially after posting him earlier in the thread wearing No. 10, so here's Jacob Nelson Fox to make up for it:
