Over here, we are entirely reasonable as to the prospects of the team. We expect nothing, and sometimes don't even get that, but we are understanding about this.

You know what's funny about how the Mets roll out a 28-year-old debutee I had never heard about to soak last night's clueless loss to the Phillies?
How under his projections it assumes him specifically to surrender an unearned run in one more inning this season. http://m.mlb.com/player/543193/drew-gagnon They are not trusting the Mets with anything, do they?

How come Mets pitchers always go walk-walk-homer, but Mets batters always go homer-walk-walk?
...or groundout, strikeout, hit-himself-in-the-nose …...

I thought you guys might appreciate this response to the un-fan letter that I posted earlier (post #157). I agree with this writer; a true fan cannot just jump ship and move his loyalty someplace else, no matter how bad his team is at the moment. There is always the future, and the past. I may take an interest in the Mets due to them sharing our town (and because I enjoy the witty repartee here ) but I have always been, and will always be, a Yankees fan. And a Knicks fan, God help me.

I sure wonder who that witty repartee is who's posts I can not see.
Over at Faith and Fear in Flushing, Greg Prince and Jason Fry are actual gold, and the more so the worse the Mets play. Quote:

May you Mets be nice and quiet and incompetent as usual this weekend? We need the wins!

I have no idea where Newsday is in the spectrum between serious reporting and LOOK!! HUGE HEADLINE!! but I am still not over the Mets having even signed him. Why does this chump take away at-bats from actual prospects in the high minors now!?
This franchise...

Cespedes is "sore" after playing in the staggering total of 1 consecutive games.
Can't make this **** up.

From 94 saves in 2015-2016 to being traded for a couple of minor leaguers and $1 million in "international slot money" (which is not real cash, just the ability to spend it). Who is the Mets closer now?

Familia has been so grossly overvalued… he couldn't save a cube of sugar from falling into a cup of coffee during the 2015 World Series, let alone a bleeping ballgame, and I will be mad at him for that forever. And other teams know that he is grossly overvalued, too, because that is a pathetic yield for any sort of closer.
Probably Gsellman will close now, but I heard the Mets might trade him as well… but given that he is cheap and controllable, I wonder whether we are actually and truly run by a band of brain-damaged baboons by now…

1) First, yes, this guy is a disaster for the Mets. What a waste. Other than the decent year that he had in 2016 for them, and "decent" is the word for it given his talent, he's been an expensive mistake and now he appears to be on one of those career-ending injury spirals. 2) Speaking of which, I often wonder how players who are recovering from a major injury can develop another problem in other parts of their bodies while supposedly under close medical and rehab supervision. (See Jacoby Ellsbury: oblique > hip > lower back > plantar fasciitis.) 3) So Cespedes is coming along from his latest quadriceps injury, is activated, and suddenly it is revealed that he has heel calcifications? The Mets either did not know of this condition or agreed to ignore it while it could have been treated concurrently with the quad injury? (At least to some extent; now we are looking at 8-10 months recovery.) 4) How does Cespedes get cleared to play anyway? For one game. Rather than have that happen, it would have been better to just quietly keep the guy on the DL (see Jacoby Ellsbury). 5) Cespedes himself announces this latest setback to the press? His own manager is left unaware and is forced to face the media by himself to answer questions? None of the three "acting GM's" were available to give him support? Don't care that there is a follow-up press conference today; Callaway should not have been thrown under the bus by his player or his organization like that. The Mets are one sorry monkey rodeo these days.

1) Trading for him in '15 was definitely a great move, because without him the Mets don't roar past the Gnats and there is no pennant at all. Resigning him after the season was something everybody wanted, but there was no huge red flag attached to him for injuries then… not that he is a bad player, he is still bringing in raucous OPS+ values, he's just never in the lineup; so yeah, in this case, hindsight's 20/20.
2) I am not a doctor, but I know that whenever the Mets or Coons gain lots quickly in the L column, I miraculously gain a pound or two. 3) Until this week, we knew that every single part of his body was aching, EXCEPT the heels. Which turns into … 4) This franchise is indeed a train wreck, run by the aforementioned band of brain-damaged baboons. 5) Did I mention the baboons already? This one stunned everybody, including the broadcast crew yesterday, who had no idea what was going on either, and they are usually very close with the Mets' PR department and front office… So I indeed buy into the GM level knowing zip until Cespedes himself revealed the heel issues. So where does that bring us? There is roughly $75m left on that contract which runs through 2020. The current season is a disaster. The Mets aren't going anywhere, and neither is that contract going anywhere. Stop messing around, get him checked out by Mets personnel, and when they confirm the heel issue, get him fixed NOW instead of dragging him on and off the field on a stretcher for the next six weeks and doing surgery in September. If you cut him open right now, you can maybe get him back between March and May next year and you can still get something, anything for the $58.5m he is allegedly due for the next two years. But I sure know the Mets will **** this up like they **** up everything. I hope they have insurance for him. It is assumed that they pay nothing of David Wright's contract because they have insurance.

I had to check the date to see if it was April Fool's Day. It's not but nevertheless, is this a joke?

First; wat?
Second; NOW we're laughing! But obviously the Mets medical staff (probably enthusiastic, but inept, like the entire bunch) will have misdiagnosed something else here, like … I don't know… the Spanish Flu? (reaches for the sky in vain) Meee-eeee-eeets …! (starts to cry)
