And now Carlos Beltran bites the dust.as Mets manager.

If you have managed only deep in the forest, but nobody's actually seen it, have you actually managed the team?

He was untenable, even for a routinely tone-deaf team like the Mets. Which also means we're back to the drawing board and along with two other teams are now sifting through the remains of the manager market with five weeks to Spring Training.

Only good things can come out of this.

New Met manager. Luis Rojas Alou
Shall we go with the nickname the pinch hitter?

The longer I think about it, the more I am convinced that the Mets are the MLB's Raccoons. Where hitters go to die, where everything falls apart in the most stupid ways, and management is routinely and utterly inept.

BOTH teams make me scream and pull my hair, too...

Of all the professional sports, IMO the baseball manager is the least important to their teams success.

But after reading about this one, he is only three years older than me but has been managing since 2006
He has put in his time all in the Mets organization.

Maybe the Mets have found something by going young and hiring from within and someone who knows the organization at every level.

This is what I am thinking, having read a little about him just now. He's got the managing experience that Beltran lacked and he's an insider.

By September 1st Mets fans will be saying:
A. Rojas is a keeper
B. First season shows promise give him a chance
C. Is Davey Johnson still alive?
D. When does the NFL start up again?

E. Man, this team would have gone down the river without Tebow hitting .327 with 18 bombs!

The crawl on FS1 kept mentioning the new Mets manager last night and I have to ask, what the heck is a Quality Control Coach?

A paid position with no function other than making sure nobody falls down the stairs? I don't know. Is the position now open, though? Can I - ... where do I send my CV to?

It appears to be a new phenomenon in the past few years - the usual story: one team does it and the others say "That's a good idea. Why didn't we think of it?" The other term that I saw in a search is "Quality Assurance Coach" and there were some definitions here and there. The best was this one: "The quality control coach is essentially responsible for helping [the team's] players prepare for games. He works with the advanced scouting department both in terms of scouts and analytics to make sure information is properly conveyed to players." In baseball, being bilingual seems to be a qualification.
