We are 4-3 so far this month. Got killed by Indy on the 1st. Went 11 vs NYY on the 4th. Destroyed the Bronx Bombers on the 5th then the pen blew the game on the 6th. Trapp blew a save on the 7th. Foster pitched great on the 7th.

Steve, Foster that is as there are 4 Steve's on this team Came up with the Sox during a time that GM Kenny Williams was rebuilding the team from the ground up. While his numbers are not impressive, bad defense and a lack of offense led to most of his troubles. Steve and his brother Mike, who plays for their hometown Reds, grew up in Cincinnati. Steve is not related to former Reds pitcher Steve Foster. Steve and his brother were exceptional athletes.
Steve's biggest influence since being with the Sox is former Sox ace Jack McDowell. Steve believes that this team is as good as the 1993 team and mirrors them in many ways. 4 solid SP, solid pen and good offense. Also the fact that Bo Jackson & Frank Thomas were on that '93 team and this team has their sons Garret & Sterling on it makes sense. Steve has improved in each of his 4 seasons with the Sox.Steve throws a good fastball, split and Forkball while throwing a curve on occasion.
2019 Update: Foster has been a solid pitcher so far in 2019. He wont win many awards but he gets the job done.

3 games @ Texas. This is not going to be a fun series. The amount of lefties they have are going to tee off vs our righties. Very good team. Telis, Harper, Davis, Lindsey, Chase are really good hitters. De Los Santos is the reigning Al Cy Young Award winner. Buckel & Matthews both look good.

Next Series: San Francisco Giants

3 games vs G-Men. This team has fallen along way from the perennial NL West contenders that they have been for the last 5 seasons. Buster Posey is no longer the starter. Lincecum is old now. Time to rebuild I guess. They do have good young 2B Tim Duggleby but he is not having nearly as good of a season as his twin brother Tim who plays for Seattle. Larry Greene is injured which hurts them a lot.

Sammy has been a solid offensive rookie backstop this year. Defensively he cant throw too many out. He grew up a Cubs fan in Evanston & went to Northwestern just like his idol Joe Girardi. Sammy says he has learned alot from veteran C Jerome Hopkins.
2019 Update: Hicks has improved from his rookie year both offensively and defensively.

Next Series: San Diego Padres

3 games @ Padres. Hovering right around .500 the Padres have solid pitching but are weak on offense. Nieto, Alonzo Brooks, Williams & Vogelbach lead the offense, or what they call an offense. Medina, Galvan & Sullivan are solid starters and if they have the lead in the 9th, you will be hard pressed to find a better CL in the NL then Chapman.

Don't know if the Lions trading for Amaral is a good deal or not but it does give them some OF depth.

White Sox Weekly

5-1 this week. The 0-2 loss to San Diego was only the 3rd time we have been shutout. Laurence has finally come back to Earth in his stats after a really poor start. The trade for Allison give the White Sox a good CL since Trapp can not seem to get anyone out anymore. Nelson Reyes was demoted to AAA. Harold Baines will have to make a decision on Fred Jones who is hitting .330 his last 5 games with 3 HR when Jack Johnson comes off the DL tomorrow. Send Jones down or demote/trade Toledo.
You can see how great Laurence has been his last several starts compared to how bad he was in April.

Laurence is one of 3 Steve on the starting staff and 4 overall on the Sox. He rose quickly through the Sox system but this is his 1st season as a SP. He is a crafty lefty. His all time favorite player is Cliff Lee. He says he also learned a lot by watching Chris Sale before Sale went to the Astros.
2019 Update. Laurence started out really bad in 2019 but has been great in his last several starts.
