Professional Baseball Replay League - Inagueral Hall Of Fame Ballot - Everyone Welcome
Welcome to the first ever Hall of Fame election for the Professional Baseball Replay League! Ever since 1901, we have been faithfully simming the history of baseball over again with different players, different personalities, and different histories. And now, after more than a year in the real world, we have entered 1936, the year in which the first ever Hall of Fame elections took place. We follow that tradition, and we now hold our first ever election. 10 players will be elected into the first ever Hall of Fame class in 1939. So for the next 3 years, we will keep doing this until we hit 10. From then on after, it’s whoever gets elected. Players need 75% to be elected. Each voter can vote for up to 10 players. I want to stress that you can vote for anyone who is retired. The list of players below are a recommendation of the 10 best hitters and pitchers. Please feel free to look at our Catobase, which is enhanced with many stats many version of Cato usually lack. http://pbrl.allsimbaseball2.com/CatoBase/ If you take a look at the leaderboards for OPS+, ERA+, and Win Shares, you can get a good feeling. ANYONE CAN VOTE! But if you aren’t active in PBRL, please submit a serious ballot or don’t vote at all. And now, the players, and then the votes! |

I want to point out, and maybe make a little pitch for, Caesar Geist and Jim Joy. These guys had a good part of their careers chopped off by 1901 - they would have been active players from 1895-1900, but PBRL didn't start until 1901. So if you want (as I do), I consider it the same as having lost time due to war. I just want to make sure people notice that they have amazing rate stats, even though their counting stats are lessened, and its no fault of their own.

Man, this is nearly impossible to keep to 10 players
Bad Bart Martin - 3K hits plus record amount of GG's, a BOY and leader of 4 champs Rooney - So many walks... Abercrombie - Great player at his peak Chesterfield - The hits king Cawdor - Lethal hitter Edwards - 2nd great SP Verrherrsch - 3rd great SP Hartung - Highly underrated Slocum - 4 time POY Luck - 1st great SP

Larry Abercrombie - best pure hitter in history, IMO
Royal Chesterfield - So good, for so long - almost 4,000 hits Bob Rooney - he's Bob Rooney, he gets the vote Ryan Cawdor - only challenger to Lobo for best hitter ever Caesar Geist - incredible hitter who had his career cut off, and I like old timey players Bad Bart Martin - he and Rooney have the best combo of fielding and hitting of all time Caroll Edwards - 9 straight POTY Jurgen Verherrsch - 400 wins, and an amazing World Series pitcher Avery Luck - Despite his 1-20 final season Jim Joy - Same as Geist |

Rooney - Surprised to see so many people leave him off. He was basically the league's first superstar.
Abercrombie - First great hitter, like Ty Cobb. Chesterfield - Just kept plugging away and set some amazing records. Cawdor - Dominated the NL for well over a decade. Geist - Wish we could have seen some of his stats before 1901. Has some great single season records. Martin - 3000 hits and 10 Gold Gloves. Anchored a great Giants dynasty. Edwards - All those POTY awards. One of the first great pitchers. Verherrsch - 400 wins and a spectacular postseason pitcher. Luck - The last of the big three pitchers. Joy - Incredible pitcher and would have liked to see his stats before 1901.

Man, this was way tougher than I thought it'd be. I had a hard line drawn, but I couldn't bring myself to leave some guys off. These guys are legends.
Abercrombie Cawdor Chesterfield Martin Geist Rooney Edwards Luck Verherrsch Joy With apologies to my current manager, Mick Rooker. EDIT: I notice Avi, Ethan and I have the exact same ballot. I think we're onto something. Last edited by sbrylski; 02-01-2008 at 05:54 PM. |

LF Larry Abercrombie
LF Ryan Cawdor C Bob Rooney SP Caroll Edwards SP Avery Luck SP Jurgen Verherrsch I'll vote for more of them next year, but these are the 6 that stand out in my mind as head and shoulders above the rest.

Interesting. I almost did a 5 person ballot, but I had Chesterfield over Lobo and Cawdor. 3800+ hits, nearly 600 above the next closest, is hard to argue against. I too don't value longevitiy as much over rates, which is why Bad Bart was the last edition to my ballot, but 3800 hits. Bart gets the nod from my attempts to value defense and some of his intangibles.
