Is there anything I can do to focus on making him a third baseman?

Click the "actions" drop down and select "set game strategy." Choose "force start at position" and set it to 3rd base. That will make the AI play him at 3rd base so he will gain experience.

I'm a bit worried about him striking out too much and never developing into a good hitter. Fingers crossed.
