New HW Boxers Rated

I've seen some discussion here and there on the rating of new boxers that some have done and the discussion about setting something up here for people to share those ratings.

Well, I'm going to start the ball here so to speak and start this thread for a place for anyone to post the ratings for any new Heavyweight fighters they'd like to share with others.

You've probably seen from any of my previous posts that my main interest is the heavyweight division. I'm especially interested in the the 1960's-70's. I'd like to greatly expand on the stable of heavyweights from this time period to eventually start me a universe replay of that time period. Enough on that, to start this tread I'd like to share some that I've worked up so far from that 60's period. Now, I do not profess to know much about this deal of making these ratings. Mostly I look at the guys record off BoxRec., compare to existing fighters rated and whip up new ratings. Are they any good? I don't know. I figure I'll post them, let the "experts" look at them and tell me what's wrong. Hope all enjoy this and many of us can enjoy this sharing new fighters for the TBCB game.

So join in and lets start sharing some fighters here. I know it takes a bit to hand type this in, but if everyone just copies and pastes the layout below for Zech and fill in your data and do 1 or 2 fighters here or there once in awhile, I bet we can start to really see that stable of Heavyweights grow!

Great work! Do you playtest your fighters? Your method sounds good but until you fight 1000 fights against known opponents that are already in the game you can't be sure of the "fine tune"of your ratings.

Let me give you my read on those fighters.

Zech,- record was based primarily on German tomato cans, anytime he stepped up above the Joe Bygraves, Albert Westphal level he lost. Also he he lost to Dave Bailey. I would give him a 2 because of the weakness of competition he beat. Also a contemporary who fared like he did was Jurgen Blin who was rated a two by the game. Blin went 2-0-2 against Zech.

Beattie- I rated him a 2 because he lost against James J. Woody twice and his resume is spotty. Did beat Wipperman three times and also beat shop worn Alonzo Johnson and Tom Mcneeley. I understand you giving him a 3, it is either a 2 or 3 for Beattie.

Davis- I rated him a high 1. He didn't beat anyone of quality except John Riggins who was nearly a shot fighter. A low 2 is not a bad rating though.

Prescott- Lost to end Joe Erskine who was rated a two by the game. Erskine should be raised to a 3 or 4 by the way. Never really beat anyone of note except a split against Billy Walker, I couldn't give him higher than a 2. He reminds me of Zech, but British.

I am going to put up Eduardo Corletti and Roy (Tiger) Williams in the near future. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Cube and Heavyweight for your comments. I've tried them all in a handfull of fights, but, not had the time to run a 1000 fights! I know what your saying though cube, playing is the best way to test and fine tune. Thank you Heavyweight on your comments on the fighters. Interesting info you've provided. I was just going to put up a ratings I had for Corletti. I'm going to go ahead and post it here and see how it compares to what you've done.

With All respect Gentlemen Cube is talking sense, i consider my self i will say as good as most when it comes to rating fighters in the game.
But many i am sure would disagree on this LOL.

I have spent over 50 years as a lover of the noble art in one way or another, and even with my own thoughts ( i wont say expertise ) :-) much research, the help of two board games Title Bout and Championship Boxing ratings, it took me nearly a year to rate as i saw it 100 fighters

You may think that's a long time, but work it out, there are only about 365 days in a year, Often testing a fighter took me 3 days or more to get him near well to my liking correct.

Before you even start putting in new fighters in a division you have to make sure those in already are pretty near the mark, or your hard work will be to no avail.

Because we are not dealing here ( to state the obvious) with real fighters but numbers or such interacting with each other.

For example i gave after much study and research as i saw it correct ratings for one particular fighter and he blew the rest of the division away. But on paper his ratings looked about right.
I was forced to drop both his hitting power and Control Factor to make him perform as he did in reality.
As our friend Cube put it, its testing, testing and more testing.

A Little tip that might help, a fighter may have quite good hitting power but, and this is important, did he use it or was he inclined to hold back a little if so best to reduce it a shade to reflect reality.

But in the end its all about enjoying so have fun Gentlemen.

With the autoscheduler it's possible to set up a fight and fight it 1000 times in about 5 minutes. Then you can peruse the results and make adjustments until the results mirror what actually happened.

Thats my plan and why I've been anxiously waiting for TBCB and the scheduler! There's a number of these "fringe" fighters from the 60's period that I want to get some kind of ratings set up for them and then do exactly that start running "lots" of test fights against each other to see how they come out.

Don't you have your 2 pt punches and 3 pt punches backwards? Jefferson Davis was the tipoff.

Exclamation Getting the ball rolling

Rocco;
Thanks for getting the ball rolling on the sharing of fighters. This will be of benefit to many. There may have been some other new fighter ratings posted elsewhere (I know David posted Mose Brown for me in one of the earlier strings), but it'll be nice to have a single place to go to look. I hope others will also participate. I would particularly like to see some of Danny, Jeff, Heavyweight and others' creations, as well as more of yours and David's.
Perhaps Andreas or Jim would put a sticky on this string or make it a separate category under TBCB discusssions so it stays prominent ...
Thanks for your efforts!

Thank you Mark for your comments. Yes I do hope everyone will fee free to post what they'd like here and make it a sort of central place anyone can look to for new ratings. I'd seen David's post on Moses Brown. I'd invite him or anyone else to move those over to this tread if they'd like.

Thanks also to Swampdragon for pointing out my error on the 3pt/2pt columns. Just need to swap around the header showing the 2 point on the left and 3 point on the right just like they're shown on the Fighter record screen.

Thank you. I now have another half dozen fighters.

Incidentally, when I let the game rate every body, Zech was a 2 and Corletti a 4. To show how sensitive the ratings are, I raised Corletti's CP, which I thought was a minor rating, from 36 to 38, and dropped the PM from 65 to 63. Just those tweaks made him a 5. After Heavyweights comments, I'm happy with Zech as a 2, particularly since I'm sure he's a 2.5 or so anyway.

I started entering in some HW's that were on the old data base for TF2001 and when I'd do the autorate for the overall rating I noticed that it would pretty consitantly rate them at least 1, sometimes 2 ratings lower then what I had for the TF2001 ratings. May be something to look at with Jim and Tom at some time. Might be something to experiment with to copy some existing guys with some bogus name just to test the auto rater and see what it does. Because of what I was seeing, these guys that I listed here, I've started raising thier rating 1 or 2 from what the auto does. Zech did for me just what you mention. I originally had him as a 3 and when I hit the auto rater after inputing the ratings it gave me a 2 also. Same thing with Corletti, gave me a 4. I put in 3 and 5 respectively from what I had.

Italian HW Title on 4 occasions in late 60's to mid 70's. Cane's career was almost exclusively in Italy with a handful of fights with non-Italians. Biggest names outside Italy were George Chuvalo, Roberto Davila and Joe Bugner whom he all lost to. He beat Piero Tomasoni on a couple occasions, thus why I decided to rate him. Believe it or not when I plugged the ratings in the TBCB auto rater gave him a 3. I thought an overall of 2 was generous enough.

Enjoying your takes on these semi-obscure heavyweights.
Roy "Tiger" Williams was a fighter who had a murderous reputation as a sparring partner and as an "opponent," yet lots to a lost of mediocre and worse heavyweights, and posted few good wins.

Heavyweight - do you have the full Shavers-Williams fight?

Need help re career settings

A few quick questions--if anyone could chime in I'd really appreciate it.

(1) The three Muhammad Ali's--can someone spell out which career span each one covers?

(2) Simulating the Ali-Holmes fight--I know Holmes would be Prime--but which Ali do I use--and what career setting--Post-Prime, or End?

(3) Simulating the Duran-Leonard fight--which Leonard do I use?

(4) Simulating the Leonard-Hagler fights--which Leonard do I use, and what career setting?

Thanks to anyone who can help!
