Aaron Judge diamond card...
Picked him up, expecting some muscle to be added to an anemic line-up. Yeah, about that? 7 out of 51 and 8 walks. ZERO home runs.
That's the nature of the game—there are ups and downs. Just don't fall into the trap of thinking that just because a guy has a diamond starter in RF that he's actually any good.

I'm in a perfect league and have actually been impressed by Judge. His defense is decent and he hits around 25-30 homers and gets on base at around a .330 clip. He usually strikes out about 180 times and will not be my right fielder if and when I compete for titles but over the course of a season he can be of some value.

Sorry man, that sucks. There is still time for him to turn it around though. Mine is having a great year.

Can I be the one to bring up that we're talking about a small sample size here?

I'm not giving up...just kind of let down in the short term.

Its less about him "not being any good despite his diamond rating" and more about a sample size of 51 at bats.

To be quite honest, Aaron judge just isn't good. I dont see how his contact plus avoid Ks can ever play unless you're in single player or in iron/bronze forever. It's just impossible for him to do well against good pitching and the .330 onbp isnt worth it if he's hitting .180-.220 with little power. You can always find a better outfielder. It makes me sad cause he's my favorite active batter right now

I have to agree with nickwatic. Judge stinks in PT. I sold mine despite being a big fan of his as well. There's so many players that stink in this game because they have a low Avoid K rating.

I'll third this opinion. Sold mine when I picked up an 89 Hank Aaron.
This game kind of forces people to all play the same if they want to move up. Contact, movement, defense. Freddie Freeman is the greatest first baseman of all time apparently.

It seems like many of my pickups improve the second year. Picked up Martin Dihigo last season. His BA has improved 100 points over last season.

yes...all low contact players suck and will never play well...don't consider park factors that is just silly...please sell them all and drive the price down so I can afford them on the SaberCats
thank you very much |

SaberCats are going to get wrecked if they every make it to Perfect level. Good luck relying on walks and HR when you're facing Perfect Maddux 20 times a season.

Maybe. But there is a difference between "this player might struggle at perfect level" and "this player sucks above bronze". He's having a great year in diamond

He came round...low BA, high OBP...incredible power. What I expected.

No doubt Freeman is a good 1B, especially against RHP, but I wonder how much his very low turn DP rating affects things if you're prioritizing INF defense?

1b don't turn that many DP so its not a factor.
1b arm also doesnt matter. Error is the main thing, and then range. but I really just consider error at that position. |

1B are involved in almost every double play there is. It really depends on how you define "turn DP" and I don't think the rating is just about being the pivot man.

However, thinking through it, I could see how the rating could matter greatly for actual results despite having a negligible effect on the positional rating. This would be easy enough to catch in an in depth statistical analysis, if anyone cared enough to run one...

the 1b catches the ball at 1b
error is the only factor at play if the 1b "turns" a DP he most likely fields ball and throws to 2b or home i have seen statistical analysis on this based on perfect league results in 19 and 20. but you are welcome to believe that it is important. its what makes the game great. you have your beliefs and I have mine. |
