United States Baseball Association- A Semi-Interactive Dynasty

I wanted to do something different, and get people involved, so I created the United States Baseball Association. The sign-ups are in the general discussions, and the rules are simple: If you want to see a state in this, then sign-up. 6 of the 12 states are taken, but I have 3 mid-south states and 3 eastern states. Hoping to get something from the West soon, for next season. Season 1 will begin very soon.

Here's where the semi-interaction comes in: when you pick a state and cities, you are that states commissioner. In the offseason, you are allowed to change your states rules, teams, playoff options, anything that can be changed without effecting the association.

Also, if your state isn't winning any association titles for several years, I'm making a rule that once every 4-5 years you can release everyone from their rosters and do a fantasy draft, to try and build up that team that can compete for an association title.

Also, since none of you can actually take over a team and be in charge of line-ups and such, I have decided I will not take over a team in the Kansas State League. I will let it play out. The deadline to get states in for the first season or choose state rules has passed. It's time to get the ball rolling! If you would like to sign up for a state in Season 2, please see the sign-up sheet in the General Discussions. If you are a state commissioner and want to change any rules, etc for Season 2, you can PM me at any time.

First let's take a look at the Association. The playoffs will consist of the regular season champion and playoff champion of each state. If the regular season and playoff champion are the same, then the playoff bid will go to the other finalist. Teams will then be seeded 1-12 (for the first season), with the 6 state regular season champions seeded 1-6, and the playoff champions being seeded 7-12. Top 4 get a bye, 5/12, 6/11, 7/10, 8/9 will be first round match-ups. First Round and Quarterfinals will be best of 5 series, semifinals and championship best of 7 series.

The regular season champs will be based on 2 things: how they finish in the state playoffs, and regular season record. Obviously, regular season champs that also win their playoffs or finish 2nd will be seeded much higher. If we have multiple regular season champs that also win their state playoffs, then we will go to regular season record. If that is the same, it will go to coin flip.

The playoff champs will be based the same way: finish in the regular season and record. This will all be explained more once we get to our first association playoffs.

Each state will start on the first Monday in March, and play an 84 game schedule. Each team will play the other 7 teams in their state 12 times: 6 at home and 6 away. 3 game series, no all-star game. Each state's season should end in mid-August. The draft will be after the season and will include all states in 1 draft. The graphic has draft info and other association rules that will not be changed so that each state can have their own set of rules.

Now it's time to meet the 6 states that will bid for an association title in this first USBA season, starting with the Colorado State League: Commissioner is jparker2112. For the first season, he will be using default rules.

And now the Kansas State League, with commissioner baseballfanmas. He has elected not to allow trading for his state, a very interesting move.

Here we look at the Missouri State League, with commissioner goroyals. He has decided to make it a little tougher on his teams, as his rules allow for just a 20 man active roster.

Spring Training for the first season will be the default 5 weeks. This can be changed by state commissioners in the offseason. Any rules may be changed, the option to have playoffs after the regular season can be changed, as well as playoff setup. About the only things that can't be changed at this point are anything to do with the regular season schedule (number of games, season start, etc). These will not change. Also, the draft info will not change. DH is automatically set for the first season, if you want pitchers to bat after that, that's your choice. If anybody has any questions or comments, let me know.

For the first season, I will probably have 4 updates: The end of May, end of June, end of July, and end of regular season. Then the playoffs will always be more in-depth. If anybody wants me to go to weekly updates, I would consider it for season 2.

Colorado State League- May 2019 Recap

It's a tight race early in Colorado, as the Telluride Stouts have a 1 1/2 game lead over both the Colorado Springs Chill and the Grand Junction Corkers. The Stouts are getting it done on the road, with a 7-2 record. And they are also doing it with 8, count em, 8 players on the IL! That is at least 4 more than any other team, so what they've done is pretty impressive so far.

Going forward, I am only planning on giving a short standings recap for every state when I give a recap. It will be way too tedious to keep track of major transactions, injuries, suspensions, etc, etc. I will also include big milestones, like no-hitters, hitting for the cycle, things like that. Commissioners, if there is something specific that you want to see included in the monthly recap for your state, please let me know. Attachments will feature standings and hitting and pitching leaders.

Kansas State League- May 2019 Recap

It's the Topeka Golden Giants and the Salina Blue Jays leading the way, tied atop the state standings. They've both defended their home field, coming into June with a 9-3 and a 9-4 home record, respectively.

Kentucky State League- May 2019 Recap

It's the Covington Cubs who have a 2 game lead over both the Hazard Moonshiners and Bowling Green Bulldogs. The Cubs have taken advantage of 1 run decisions, as they are 6-1 in games decided by 1 run. They are also 3-1 in extra inning games.

Missouri State League- May 2019 Recap

The Columbia Tigers currently lead the MSL and are 3 games ahead of both the St. Louis Perfectos and the Jefferson City Capitals. Columbia has taken advantage of playing 16 of their first 22 games at home, going 12-4 in those games. On the other hand, they are just 3-3 on the road, which could come back to haunt them if the race tightens up in June. Commissioner goroyals decision to only have 20 on the active roster is really causing havoc, as most of the MSL teams have still elected to have 12 pitchers on the roster, leaving just 8 position players. It seems that every team has at least a couple 2 way players, but at some point, you have to think injuries and fatigue will become a factor.

New Jersey State League- May 2019 Recap

It's tight in the NJSL, as 2 teams are trying to put distance early. The Princeton Phantoms currently lead the league by 1 game over the Jersey City Panthers. Jersey City has a 2 game lead over the 3rd place team, the Cherry Hill Knights. Early on, there appears to be a clear talent difference between the top 4 teams and the bottom 4 teams. Top 4, winning records. Bottom 4, losing records. Remember, for this first season at least, the top 4 finishers make the state playoffs. Princeton is doing a great job defending their home field with a 10-2 home record.

Virginia State League- May 2019 Recap

It's a fun race in Virginia through 1 month, as the Fredricksburg Generals and Martinsville Checkers lead the league with a 14-8 record. Just 1/2 game behind them at 13-8 is the Cape Charles Eagles, who had a game rained out earlier in May. Cape Charles is 3-0 in extra inning games and 7-2 in both 1 run games and away games. That is keeping them in the hunt early, but there doesn't appear to be a clear cut favorite yet.

Colorado State League- June 2019 Recap

The Grand Junction Corkers had about as good of June as you could ask for, going 21-5 in the month and posting a 15 game win streak. They now lead the league by 7 games, with just 2 games separating the 2nd and 5th place teams.

We also had our first in this association.. our first no-hitter! Telluride Stouts hurler Dan Walker threw the no-no on June 9th against the Estes Park Moose.

Kansas State League- June 2019 Recap

It's still tight in Kansas, as the Salina Blue Jays have jumped on top of the standings, leading the Manhattan Indians by 1 game. Home field continues to be an advantage for the Blue Jays, as they are 18-6 at home.

Kentucky State League- June 2019 Recap

The Covington Cubs continue to dominate the league with a 35-13 record, and a 7 game lead in the league. Their pitching staff ranks #1 in every single pitching category (starters ERA, reliever ERA, strikeouts, etc). There may very well be a team with a losing record in the Kentucky State playoffs this season, as right now only 3 teams have a winning record, and the 4th place team, the Bowling Green Bulldogs, have a 22-26 record after a 9-17 June.
