In the top of the fourth, Lillis brought a run home with a double.

In the top of the fifth, the Colt .45s loaded the bases with nobody out. Mejias beat out the 6-4-3 and Spangler scored the tying run. Ranew followed with an RBI single to put the Colt .45s back in the lead. With runners at first and second and one out, Ray Daviault took the mound for the Mets. Mejias went on to score when Amalfitano grounded out to second.

After a leadoff double in the top of the seventh, Ken MacKenzie took the mound for the Mets and got out of the inning without allowing the Colt .45s to add to their lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bruce walked the first two batters he faced and was replaced by Bobby Shantz. Neal made it a one run game with an RBI single.

Clem Labine took the mound for the Mets in the top of the eighth. The Colt .45s loaded the bases with one out. Aspromonte grounded into the 6-2 fielder's choice for the second out. Larker then struck out to retire the side.

Jim Umbricht took the mound for the Colt .45s in the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, Ranew hit a solo home run to extend the Colt .45s lead to a pair of runs.

The Colt .45s got 15 hits in the contest.

Ranew was hit by a pitch to force Larker home. Amalfitano brought two home with a single. Lillis followed with a single to again load the bases with two out. Coming to bat for the second time in the inning, Taussig struck out to finally bring the third to an end.

In the top of the fourth, Robinson hit a solo home run to put the Reds on the board.

In the bottom of the fifth, Ranew hit a run-scoring single.

In the top of the seventh, Coleman got an RBI double. Kasko added an RBI single. Edwards followed with his own RBI single to make it a one run game. Adair tied it with an RBI double. With bases loaded and two out, Lynch grounded to short to retire the side.

Bill R Henry took the mound for the Reds in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch hitter Al Heist came through with a two out RBI single to put the Colt .45s back in the lead. Spangler followed with his own run-scoring single.

In the bottom of the second, the Reds loaded the bases with nobody out. O'Toole flew to right for the first out. O'Connell flew to right for the second out. Pinson, though, knocked in two with a clutch single.

In the top of the third, the Colt .45s loaded the bases with two out. Larker grounded to first to retire the side.

After three: Cincinnati 2 Houston 0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Edwards brought one home with a single and a Taussig throwing error. The Reds went on to load the bases with one out. Dean Stone took the mound for the Colt .45s. Pinson flew to center and then Taussig threwAdair out at home as he had tagged up and tried to score.

After six: Cincinnati 3 Houston 0.

In the bottom of the seventh, Cardenas hit a run-scoring single. Adair addedan RBI single of his own. With runners at the corners and one out, Dave Giusti took the mound for the Colt .45s. Coleman scored when Edwards grounded to short.

In the top of the eighth, Mejias cut the deficit in half with a three run homer.

Jim Umbricht took the mound for the Colt .45s in the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, Ranew hit a two out RBI triple before Mejias grounded to third to end the game.

The Reds got 14 hits in the victory.

Final score: Cincinnati 6 Houston 4.
